Dance of the Dead (2008)
Dead Funny at times
Having grown up with the suspense and claustrophobia of George A Romero's Zombies & the comedy of Sam Raimis and enjoyed the some of the better modern movies like 28 Days Later I wasn't expecting much from this movie and so was not disappointed.
The movie doesn't take itself too seriously and the acting and direction are quite good in places. There were some very good comedy moments but sometimes annoying compromises on the speed of zombies at different times and whether they attack en masse or not.
Overall an enjoyable hour and a half if you've fuff all else to do - I gave it a 7 immediately after viewing which I'm going to change to a 6 now on reflection.
The Genius Club (2006)
Some idiots in the club
The lack of budget was evident throughout so this film depended on the storyline which I thought, although it was thought provoking at times, was lacking any real depth at any stage.
I mean some of these so called geniuses(sic?)wouldn't be allowed in the mickey mouse club never mind Mensa which meant the arguments put forward where always facile and childish apart from the few occasions where some statistics or equations where spewed out as if to justify someones inclusion in the club.
Acting was mostly passable to decent and some atmosphere was created but this movie didn't know whether it wanted to be Zeitgeist or Die Hard and definitely(sic?DOH!)failed both.
Worth a watch for the reminder of mans destructive qualities but enlightens none and entertains little.
