House of the Dragon: The Princess and the Queen (2022)
Reminiscent of the last GOT season.
The latest episode was a huge letdown just as last season of GoT was and I think the comparison is appropriate given that the same fault seems to be present: characters are taking actions which are plausible, but characters are not developed enough for us to care about their choices/understand those choices.
For e.g. Can a king become a tyrant? Of course he can. But to make the audience invested in the story you need to understand why has he gotten to that point. This is what we loved about GoT. Every character was so extensively developed for the first seasons that even if we were shocked of something happening, we could always empathise with their actions as they seemed to fit the character naturally. Then things were rushed as hell in the final season, to the point that an action can be plausible for someone in that situation, but the reasoning behind it was lackluster, to say the least.
Same is happening here, sure, I can accept that certain people in the characters' situation can act like that. But I don't want to imagine why this whole royal intrigue came to be. I want the directors, writers and so on to develop their characters properly so that when I'm seeing someone yelling something out of their lungs, I believe them.
Up until now, the figureheads of the two evident upcoming parties have just as much depth as a highschooler who just scrolls TikTok all day.
The saving grace of the show is the brilliant performance of some of the actors but I'm uncertain this will last for too long. Matt Smith and Paddy Considine are carrying this show so much. Emma D'Arcy was so bland in this episode and I really hope she can pick up some pace going forward.
Not very hopeful for the future to be honest.
The Umbrella Academy (2019)
Terrible
While the first two seasons were decent TV (maybe even above average), season 3 is unwatchable due to it being transformed to a political agenda.
As many people pointed out, there is absolutely no need to change the ark of a character even in an original series in order to acommodate the personal circumstances of the character. The actor can either retain his original role, be replaced, or the character written out If there is too much incompatibility (for whats worth, I think Elliot couldve easily retained his role as Vanya).
On the other hand, doing this with a show which draws from an established lore seems absolutely mental. What the hell were they thinking?
Wont finish season 3 for sure (not even sure if I should finish this episoade tbh) and there seems to be a general consensus: season 3 is bad all around. Hopefully this gets cancelled and maybe companies will refrain from ruining decent TV shows for the sake of some idiotic political agenda.
The Batman (2022)
This won't age well
Only rating it 1 to offset the fanbois who gave 10. In actuality, this movie is a solid 5. It is well beyond my understanding how can people be hyped by such poor script, boring action scenes and to some extent poor directing.
The acting is ok but far from top level for any of the actors involved. They all played milion times better in other flicks. Again, poor scripting and writing won't help too much with credibility on behalf of acting either way, so not a lot of blame can be put on them.
Couldn't watch the last 15 minutes, definitely won't watch a sequel. Too bad the commercial success means that at least for some years to come we won't have a decent batman movie (if the trend set by this movie continues).
La apus (2016)
10/10
Havent seen the movie but the poster illustrated as the 6th IMDb profile picture is just the best. Highly profesional execution.
Also apparently reviews must have at least 150 words or smth so I had to fill this in.
