Get Smart (1965)
One of the Best TV Shows Ever Made
Okay, so there was this scene where Max is shot and wounded (or pretented to be wounded, I don't remember), in a Hotel lobby. Anyway, these two bumbling Control agents, pretending to be ambulance workers, put Max on a gurney and tried to get him through the hotel lobby revolving door. This scene took almost an entire segment. It was hysterical. There was no dialog. It was like a silent movie. My girlfriend at the time thought this show was too stupid and not funny. She watched this particular scene with me and almost died laughing. It flipped a switch in her brain. She adored this show from that point. We've been married for 35 years.
Predator 2 (1990)
Fantastically Cliche
Every single scene is overdone in every single way.
The acting is over the top. The writing is over the top. The subplots are over the top. It is dated in its entire presentation, from the cars, to the clothes, to the hair styles, to the sets. It is wonderful. Every conversation is cliche. It is hysterically and perfectly on target. There may be a million gunshots in this movie. Every character is a perfect parody of themselves. You have to be in the right frame of mind to watch this movie. But if you are, and you are not looking for an acadamy award for best picture nominee, and you just want to have some fun, this movie works.
The Rockford Files: Rosendahl and Gilda Stern Are Dead (1978)
A Modern Ahab
I think this was a well written episode. I recall in those early days of hip replacement surgery, remembering seeing a report on some news magazine show about hip salesmen assisting surgeons. It was quite shocking at the time. I really wonder if people get the clever reference to Mobey Dick. Abe Vigoda's chracter was obsessed with revenging the loss of his ability to walk normally, to the point where he became wreckless. The surgeons he was pursuing botched his hip replacement surgery and he was out for blood no mtter what it took. In a seemingly inconsequential scene, one of Vigoda's henchmen was watching the movie Mobey Dick on TV. He got angry at this henchman did not notice Ahab had a peg leg. Pretty good.
The Orville: Command Performance (2017)
Ensign Parker?
Easter egg homage to McCale's Navy. Hysterical. I admire Seth MacFarland's vision of this show being nothing more than tv entertainment. The show is good. It could be historically good. We'll see. Fun to watch.
The Outer Limits: Moonstone (1964)
All the Knowledge of the Universe Fit onto a Half Dozen 1960s Computer Tapes
Great Early 1960s Science Fiction TV. Best effects of the day. Very enjoyable watch. Decent story. If you can see past the quaint special effects, it's good sci-fi.
The Empty Man (2020)
TOO LONG - TOO SLOW
Could have been much tighter. 90 minutes is as long as this needed to be. It's length made it boring. I should have just taken a nice nap. I would have felt better. One of those, boy I just wasted two hours and sixteen minutes, movies.
Call Me Kat (2021)
Stunning
Possibly the worst show I have ever seen in my entire life.
