Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
Witness this masterpiece
Even if I am fairly late with a review on this movie - what a masterpiece !
So, everything has been covered in the other reviews, I just wanted to point out 2 things : what a waste of water at the end of first scene ! haha. And, imagine waking up in the middle of a wasteland, surrounded by sand and nothingness, with a random dude chained to you (or vice versa),and after being aware of your surroundings you see a bunch of hot chicks washing themselves in the most valuable thing there could be in that situation : water. Man, Id react a bit different. :D
Insane movie, really good script, acting, producing. Simply loved it, even if its the 2nd time i see it since its appearance.
Awesome way to put to shame most action sci fi movies made ever since this aired.
Final Space: The Sixth Key (2019)
Chookity ! POP what a show !!!
Earlier in the season i was quite discouraged by the 1-2 episodes that - apparently had no reason to be there, only to fill the series BUT man i was so wrong !
What a show ! What a season finale !
This is really gorgeous to see - so much creativity and so much plot into an animated series - executed splendidly .
I grew insanely found of Final Space. The writing, the character development ( more than is many, many tv series nowadays), and the twists are completely insane !
Hands down the best show i put my eyes on this year ( cuz i binged watched it in february 21) . I cant wait for the 3rd season to come ! Im sure it cannot miss.
Perfect 10 for me, even if there are little tiny plot holes, this show intrigued me more and more each episode.
I dare say, it took the number 1 spot from Rick n Morty as far as animated series go in my personal charts.
Masterpiece.
Final Space (2018)
Haha, this is really worth it :D
What a show ! I am 6 episodes in the first season and i cannot get enough of it ! Character development, fine but easy plot overall (until now), really enjoyable relations between characters but also really good writing.
Kind of did not expect this to turn out to be so much fun to watch !
So enjoy, you should watch it too :)
Altered Carbon: The Killers (2018)
No words
But i will try to write down a few.
I have just finished to watch the first season - what a series !
It had everything, from character development, amazing CGI, amazing plots, twists, love stories. Amazing writing, underlining all the possible human relationships that can revolve around a series and make it dope to watch.
This being said, I found myself drown to the main character too much - so much I cannot even comprehend to start season 2 without being completely disappointed by it - because the main changes and almost all familiarity is swept from under our eyes.
Yes, the finale of season 1 is amazing and it ties up everyone - expect Kovacs- in this "happily ever after" idea. But still, all the atoms im composed of want to watch more of this world !
Also, after knowing it got cancelled, i just want the memory of a great series to linger more in my head, and i cant put myself in the posture to see season 2.
I dont know, im lost for words. What a great story and what a great lead !
Poe is so amazing i cried when he died, because it was then when i understood that once this season would end - everything from this world would end with it.
And its not like in Doctor Who where you could probably relate to each and every character in their own way. For me - This season cannot be beaten - even though i havent given a chance even to season 2.
The idea that Netflix canceled such a potential, reminds me of Firefly.
This is one of the shows i will not rewatch - because it already had its full effect over my mind, and gave me that feeling that rarely comes out after watching a story end - the emptiness, hollowness that unfortunately its came to just that - the end. Everything stopped, and i gotta move on to something different so i can take myself out of that world.
Great season, and for me, great series. Unfortunately, amazing things come in small doses.
Glass (2019)
I mean...
There are many pros and cons about the ending of this trilogy.
I guess some people would not be content to the ending delivered by N. S. ,whatever the ending would be.
For me, Glass should have been at least one hr longer, trying to pursue the loose ends that still remain loose after the movie has ended. I wish David Dunn would have more screen time and more active participation in the script. I wish that the kids - Casey and Joseph - would have some callings of their own. Nonetheless, its awesome to see Joseph fully grown - and although my wishes never came to life, both him and Casey acted very well given the empty script that they were put in front of.
To be honest, im lost for words because i dont know what i feel at the moment. The movie had a deep impact over me but in the same time left me with a sour taste in my mouth.
I appreciate the script around Mr. Glass but the way i see it this should have gone further and it missed in depth massively.
Im left wanting to see what will happen to this secret organization, im left wanting more from this universe, which i feel, ended abruptly and even tho i did not dislike one second of this finale, i dislike the fact that it is exactly that - the finale - made from a possible 4 hr movie into a 2 hr one - leaving a lot of possible content out for some reason.
N. S. seemed to rush this, even tho it came after 3 years after Split was released. Maybe he needed another 13 to match the expectations...
All in all, i feel quite hollow at the moment as im very receptive to movies i expect the world out of. I said in a previous review of the movie Split, that Glass cannot miss(before seeing it) . I am not sure what to believe at the moment.
For sure a good trilogy ! For sure, Split was phenomenal, and McAvoy did just great - switching alters from one sentence to another is just...amazing. If something went 100% right, is how he played.
I think this trilogy needs to be seen by everyone. There are a lot of good things you can take from these movies.
8/10 because not too many movies leave me with the idea that if i had the money id pay for its production to go further.
Split (2016)
Simply wow.
I want to start by asking the community who gave 1 star on the idea that this "sets back progress made with DID in the past few years" or the "stigmatization of people with mental disorders" - what is wrong with you all ?
THIS is the sci fi example of what mental illness can cause in a disturbed human being, without having the attention and care THAT THEY NEED.
Dr. Fletcher is there against the world showing what DID can do, in a supernatural world (because this IS a fantasy movie) if left untreated and if people just look away from these issues.
I am left speechless. What hate for such a masterpiece ! This movie is the best one i have seen in a long, long time, and i cannot wait to finish this review so i can finish the trilogy.
To whoever says this movie is not relevant with The Unbreakable (1st movie from this series) is dead wrong. You should watch all 3 in order ( Unbreakable, Split, followed by Glass) .
There are so many layers on this movie, apart from the obvious one, that i cant even imagine starting such a review( should get paid for one like that). The idea of kids being raised in fluff and not being shown the outside world until too late, the idea of home abuse that forms socially awkward young adults, and these opposites of the spectrum who eventually clash (exactly like Mr. Glass said in Unbreakable), the fight between good and evil portrayed SO different than any other supernatural universe( because this is what N.S. does in this trilogy- his own fictional superhero universe), and so much more added - to make such an astonishing movie.
McAvoy is acting in this one OUT of his mind ! He is a genius on screen and i admire his ten fold since i have seen his way of handling such a hard role (well, 24 roles). Even tho we are unable to see all the 24 personalities, we get the idea of the other like 19 that dont appear - per say. Fabulous acting.
The girls, all three, were perfect for their roles - and just show the reality of todays school system - and how bullying and misunderstanding and bad parenting can cause so much harm to the young minds, especially when they are not grazed with any bit of the life's salt until too late - when they do not know how to handle anything.
The writing is phenomenal and producing likewise. I have not wasted one second with this movie - being bored or thinking how long it will be until it finishes or that my pizza was burning in the oven (haha). Such a masterpiece got all my attention and in the past weeks i have seen about 40 movies, all good, but safe to say this was the one that takes the cake.
This being said, i cannot wait to see the conclusion of this series.
This movie deserves a 9 + and Night Shyamalan did an awesome job with both the Unbreakable and this one. And im sure Glass cannot miss.
To whoever did not see these movies by now - watch them. Remarkable talent involved - both producing wise, and acting.
Arghhh im so mad about these 1 star reviews....
The Invitation (2015)
Tense but
Good movie overall.
You can sense the awkwardness of the movie from the first scenes. This tends to be the norm as you move forward.
What once was a happy group of friends is torn apart by the tragedy that happened.
It expresses the dullability of those struck by intense and never ending pain (as losing a child affects a parent), and the distances one goes to try to erase that pain. But it never does.
For me, it was pretty predictable, because i have seen many movies/documentaries about cults and how can they mess with someones mind, eager to do anything it takes to give up that pain, instead of giving in.
On the other hand, as i have seen in other comments, its a situation exposed to such a degree, that you can imagine yourself being in that situation, maybe not as the protagonists, but as a random friend that happens to be there.
The odd characters (you will know who they are), are incredibly suspicious from the moment they appear which further makes the movie a tad predictable from my side. But that shouldnt be the case if you turn your brain off a bit. Thing is, movie is so intense you cant. Our brains are wired in such way we need to find the answers before given to us.
Nonetheless, the acting is sick ! From everyone. The plot gives in slowly to the viewer, painting a distorted picture for us to try and discover more in depth, great producing there. They did not give up more details than needed and the permanent idea of Will being mentally ill kind of overloads the scenes. Everything is pieced together so well, so realistic, its really breathtaking and lingers on you after the movie has ended.
This movie should be seen by many. We live in a world where pain occupies most of our lifes, and after watching the movie you would think that things like this might actually happen in real life.
For sure a very good movie, well executed and very good acting.
I Am Mother (2019)
speechless
Speechless how a masterpiece like this gem is so underrated. Speechless of how i see every movie rated 7 or less here just to discover it should have been at least 1 or 2 stars up from the original number of stars.
This movie is no exception.
The plots and twists are awesome and the idea that, i bet, most of the viewers never realized there were 2 young girls in the first acts of the movie - meaning you did not get the movie at all- is breathtaking.
Clara Rugaard did an exceptional work with her role. Goosebumps.
All the details need to be considered watching this movie - as in the paper dolls that Daughter makes, the drawings that Woman makes, especially the numbers from the embryo capsules.
Its not an easy to digest movie - for sure not fitting the mentality of all these kids rating this with 1-6 stars - it just means you are not a valuable member of the movie society and you should STOP reviewing.
Ive seen it being compared with Ex-machina. In my humble opinion, this one smashed Ex-machina. It is simply more layered and more thought went trough it.
Great movie, great writing, even greater acting. I want to see more - i really hope for part 2 and even 3. This can be something amazing, especially coming from an emerging director.
All i want to say is that its your loss if you disregard this movie. And its your bigger loss if you cant understand it and think its bad.
I am seriously bumped down from seeing all these bad reviews from people who just dont understand it.
10/10 though, because of the few few mistakes that were made during production, it would be a strong 9/10, if the world would be a better place and people would be correct when assessing a movie like this one.
The Titan (2018)
"Mind over matter"
The 1 stars were given by kids who thought they would see incredible CGI probably.
OK. Movie is layered. The idea of a family going to the supreme sacrifice for the greater good, the ways the government hides the truth or camouflages it, until they cant keep it under control anymore, in which case they feel the need to -erase- everything just to save their reputation. And maybe my favorite : the amazing power we all have within us - our own mind, the extent in which we can prevail just focusing on what is in front of us - no matter how grim, risky or plain dangerous.
They do all the above in this movie, rather well. OF course, you have tons of ways you can criticize this movie. Of course, things could have been better. There are some instances where its just hard to swallow. But movies are made for entertainment, not for us to slice them into tiny pieces.
Not everyone would like this movie, but the imdb stars are really not reflecting the truth. Low budget movie with a good idea, hard to swallow because of the steady pace it takes.
The sets and little CGI there is are fitting for the movie overall.
The acting is spot on.
Some things are really inspiring.
All in all, would recommend.
For sure not a waste of -my- time. " Mind over matter" .
ARQ (2016)
Another unfair 6
I am putting out reviews since only a few days ago and it all started with the many movies i nearly avoided because of the low stars some movies have and do not reflect the movie at all.
This is yet another case ! First of all, i didnt even notice the time flying. Captivating and interesting concept of a movie(not original of course but what is original nowadays..) and i will leave the review spoiler free so i wont continue getting into this one.
Good acting - very good acting actually. Good setup, good plot with an ending that fits the whole idea of the movie - spot on - even if predictable to a certain extent.
I DO recommend this movie if only for the fact that i did not wanted it to stop when it did.
If something, this demonstrates again that a good script does not need tens or hundreds of millions to get it right. Low budget, good plot, decent twists that kept you interested all movie long. Just GOOD overall.
Please give it a try without looking too much at the number of stars. It for sure doesnt reflect the truth.
Solid 7.5, towards 8. I am gonna leave a 9 for the haters.
The Discovery (2017)
Well, im not reading reviews before the watching a movie anymore
OK, i have stated several times now how users criticize sometimes in vain a movie that is actually good. I dont think all of us put some effort into seeing beyond the flaws of a movie into the heart of it, which destroys our perception of what we feel and think after seeing it.
This will be my first full on review of a movie, because, i really think i should.
First of all i will talk about the idea of the movie, so, beware of spoilers !!!
Regret is our worst enemy. We often get devided between what could have been if we wouldnt take a certain path, what we could have reached if only we wouldve done things a bit differently than we did - and the present . All of us have regrets, and all of us either overtake them or they overtake us. This is, in my opinion, very well linked to the idea of suicide. People suicide cause they regret. Either you regret losing a lost one, or regret screwing up your life...the list can go on indefinetly, but at the heart of every suicide is regret(or mental illness but we will stick with regret for the sake of the movie, although, they are relating).
This movie tries to embody a world in which if you die, you get to go back and change your biggest regret ( kind of like the idea of the butterfly effect, but a little...different). In my humble opinion they do it perfectly ! I dont know the ages of people commenting on here, but i can tell you, this is not a movie for a teen to enjoy. Its a slow, pretty well thought movie that actually touches a very good concept : the possibility (and reality in the movie) that life after death, in other form, can exist, and the chase to see what exactly that other form is.
As i touched before - its the undoing of ones biggest regret.
I will not spoil the ending - but i would say this, for people who seen it before, its not random, as other users "reviewed". The twist really got me by surprise because i expected something different, also relating to Lacey, but not the thing that happened. So yea, if it was predictable for others, for me it was not. And i enjoy thinking while watching a movie, especially of this type. So yeah.
To wrap this first point up, In my opinion the idea of the movie was great ! The execution was at times sloppy but overall was great ! I recommend it fully !
Secondly, there are people saying the lead actor was bad. Well, given the big reveal at the end, its quite normal the way he acted. He was having flashbacks in different parts of the movie, flashbacks not related to the scenes at hand.
He was living a confused life not knowing what he is experiencing, and to add to that he was a neurologist who helped Dad make the Discovery ! Even if he never admits it, he gives it away that he feels responsible for all the people that commited suicide since the Discovery.
Furthermore, i like this guy from HIMYM, and really was not expecting him to perform in such a layered movie, but eventually he did. Slow start, very weird the first half, but as the plot and twist were wrapping up i understood his acting.
As for Isla, i really liked her. Nothing more to add to that.
Yes, script couldve been way better, the acting couldve been a tad better from...well...from everyone, but it was not BAD , as other reviews tend to say over here.
One thing id like to say, because, yea, i feel i need to : i do not appreciate movies that sell the suicide ideas ! These movies can be very...deteriorating for people that dont have an identity later in life, and the tricks that it can play on ones fragile mind can be devastating
To end this long review : i really found the movie interesting. I really wish people would stop looking only at surface in movies like this and try to peel the onion more. Im sure they would find things in themselves that would compliment the movie and vice versa.
Its a good movie, not the best and not something you should watch if you like CGI sci fi films or stuff like that.
And while im here, i should say that all of us have regrets, youre not alone! And all of us can overcome them, one way or another, but alive.
Disenchantment (2018)
Not the worst, just mediocre.
Ok, ok. Disenchantment had a pretty good start. I expected character development going forwards into 2nd part etc, but nothing actually happened. The mom thing was really predictable, and the plot overall seems to be just...blunt.
There is nothing to be WOWed about, maybe apart from the "cat" (Haha) who is really lovable and made me laugh more than a couple of times.
The script most of the times...its like written by a 6 years old that had too little for lunch and now he is hallucinating from the lack of food. Sorry but its the truth. Lucy is the only funny one, to some extent, but Elfo...come on i get the idea of naive elf, and so on, but thats just...bad writing.
More, rather than less, it seems like the story develops and is ended quite abruptly, again, no character development, no BIG plot twists, or any for that matter - everything is predictable.
Now, this doesnt mean its not enjoyable to watch.
As i said in other reviews (most!) movies are made for entertainment. And this fits the grill. I would put this under series you can just hear in the backround while you read your e mails or stuff like that. It doesnt ask for much of your focus to get everything thats going on.
It doesnt deserve 1 star, it doesnt deserve more than 6 tough, in my honest opinion.
How It Ends (2018)
Ok ok, theres a part calm down people
First of all, this is my first review ever.
I made an account just to comment about How it Ends since the rating dropped absurdly. COME on people. Part 2 has been announced it was clear that the story wont remain in such a big cliffhanger.
I am gonna say that this is not the best or the most decent movie you can entertain your evening/night with, the special effects are really not that impressive and it looks like they decided for a part 2 half way into the movie when they realized its too much of an idea for just one part. I have nothing bad to say about the acting, personally i liked it.
Plot holes ? There is just the beginning of the plot so there are no holes since it literally did not go trough with anything. The suspense is there, in some parts, but it couldve been way more well written. It was not tho.
The reason i like this movie is because i do not think there would be one thing i would do different as a survivors in a post apocalyptic picture like this.
The mistery regarding everything that is going on gives little room for better acting. I personally think that everyone actually gave their best for what they got to work with.
IF you like post apocalyptic movies, this will suit you. Warning tho, it tends to get quite boring at times. Predictable ? HELL no ! Since you cant predict that a movie will end without any explanation.
A lot of people hated the end, myself included, but the director just did it so they could make us interested in part 2. I do not think id watch it if the plot would be even remotely hinted at in the first movie.
This being said, all in all, acting was good given the weak script.
The movie idea is not out of the box (yet) but has great potential for a part 2 to be AMAZING. Now, obviously im expecting too much, but i do because its so much room to wiggle with .
7/10 only because of the hate from the comments.
Yes, its not the best, hell, its not even the top 10( post apocalyptic movies) for me, but, its not the worst, and its not something to avoid at all cost like other post apocalyptic movies.
