Cold Case: Sherry Darlin' (2003)
Not one of the better Cold Cases, MAJOR SPOILERS
This '89 episode reminds me a lot of "Love Conquers All," another one I didn't care for. In this one a young boy falls in love with a girl that has been running from foster home to foster home all her life, and then lives with him and his grandma for 10 years because she can find nothing better than him to live off of.She slyly suggests grandma probably wants to die to him so they can live off what she leaves, and when he can't do it she takes over and smothers her with a pillow. Sick. Then because she's pretty cute, she marries a wealthy man and he's devastated over what he allowed to happen. Unlike the first poster, I thought the older Sherry did look older, and yeah, it's common for women to change their hair color within a certain shade range.
In the '81 episode, "Love Conquers All," boy and girl fall madly in love, boy does another girl before their relationship is consummated, and girl convinces boy to murder the offender girl so he can be "pure" again for her and she will be "erased." He pretends to take the "other girl" on a date and her head is smashed in with barbells by his lover and shot by him.
Do people actually commit such odd crimes of passion and aren't caught for years and years? The only good thing about these episodes is their use of 80s music. I loved REO Speedwagon and Billy Joel when I was young, both used in the '81 episode at the beginning and end.
The Family Stone (2005)
I just thought it was horrible
I didn't like or much get this movie at all. Everett brings home uptight successful girlfriend SJP to his family at Christmas time, and everyone takes an immediate dislike to her, insults her, humiliates her, with really no justification at all. What in the H kind of family was he raised? In a ridiculous dinner conversation, Mom Diane Keaton says she wishes all her sons were born gay, so they wouldn't leave her. Then SJP, I guess trying to make conversation, says that she thinks most parents would hope their children would be hetero, because life is hard enough as it is, and that just makes them harder for them. For which she gets a total blasting by the whole family, especially Keaton, runs out crying, is followed by brother Luke Wilson, and winds up at the local bar getting drunk with him. Then she finds herself in his bedroom in the morning, awakened by Dad! The movie just goes from bad to worse. She discovers she has feelings for brother Luke, and her sister, played by Claire Danes, brought in for Sarah's emotional support, is finding feelings for Sarah's boyfriend Everett. In like 2 days! I find the whole thing a waste of good talent, suffering from an absolutely horrible script. I wouldn't ever see this horrible movie again unless I wanted to be mercilessly tortured. A better holiday movie is "The Holiday," while fluffy and lightweight, does have some good performances and leaves you with a good feeling.
