Hotbox (2009)
Not So Bad
The reviews here are quite cutting. I didn't think this show was so bad.
The Bad. The acting was very over the top like they were trying to make below average writing seem funny. The sketches were random which is not bad necessarily but they also just weren't very funny with most of them. Some sketches were fine but others were not just out of nowhere they had nothing funny in them. I remember I kept seeing basketball cops which was nothing but guys playing basketball and saying they were cops. Stupid and random does not mean funny to most people. Got some laughs but nothing was so fantastic that it stuck with me, can barely remember any of it TBH.
The Good. The randomness did sometimes work but even when it didn't at least the show dared to do something different. Sketches also did not drag on forever so if they weren't good it's NBD cuz there's something else right around the corner. These made Hotbox an improvement on most boring Canadian sketch comedy shows this millennium.
It would have been nice to see another season because the show could have improved in the quality of writing/laughs.

Worth Writing My First Review In 13 Years
I've been an IMDB member for 16 years and wrote 1 review 13 years ago, and that was just to get the "write a review" notice on my incomplete membership profile checked off.
I have tons of ratings and do a lot of updates but have never been moved to join any conversations (when we had message boards) or leave reviews. Until now. This show is So Disappointing!
We found ourselves pestered non stop online and on TV with ads for this show. "Canada's funniest comedians! Jay Baruchel! Try not to laugh!!"
Well if these are Canada's best comedians we are in trouble. The only ones I've heard of are Dave Foley (funny but seems to be killing time), Tom Green (used to be funny but now a desperate older man yelling CHEESE!), Caroline Rhea (funny actor not comedian) and Colin Mochrie (funniest thing on the show which makes him stick out).
The rest of the comedians are almost all awful. I won't single out the worst but some are just... wow and oh boy. Letterkenny guy is actually good.
As for Jay Baruchel, he must be there for easy cash. He was clearly given some terrible lines to say when he uses his cards etc (the rules are long & stupid) and it's obvious he doesn't really find this show funny. He's a good sport but not a convincing host and not funny himself, not that he has much to work with. Don't expect Funny Movie Actor Jay Baruchel.
How can you fix this show? Simplify the rules. Find better comedians. Most of all stop spending tons of tax dollars to make and non stop advertise this show til it's actually something worth seeing, which is a long way off.
After all the ads we were Very Disappointed with this show. 3 stars for being Canadian and having Colin Mochrie and Dave Foley.
Moving (1988)
Underrated Richard Pryor Gem!
Moving was a great film. Not if you want an artsy classic like Citizen Kane or something but when you want to just kick back for 90 minutes with popcorn and a beer and have a few big laughs this is a great one to pick. The scene with the swear jar alone makes the movie worth watching. Plus Richard Pryor as a ninja warrior. Plus George The Animal Steel. Great stuff and worth watching for sure!
Commander in Chief (2005)
Awesome!
This was an awesome show I was so sad when it got canceled. It is too bad that more people didn't watch it, it was worth it alone to see Donald Sutherland's performance because he was really amazing in this show and his character was so fascinating and just great. Geena Davis was also really good as the woman who becomes the first female U.S. president out of circumstance without actually being elected, that itself is a really good premise for a show and I thought this show was great and different. I hope it comes out on DVD because I either missed some shows or it just never finished airing on TV. Too bad it didn't get another year at least!
