Balthazar (2018)
Quelle domage
I was completely hooked on the first 4 series - binge watched - But when Helene left 👎 and without all that sexual tension, it wasn't worth the time. Just another forensic crime drama - great twisting plots, good acting, believable characters - both villains and heroes, but nothing to distinguish it. Yes, Balthazar is insufferably arrogant but Helene compensated for that. The last episode of Series 3 was a bit far fetched, but nothing like the disappointment discovering that she'd been replaced. Balthazar's two assistants were also funny to watch and follow their development. I'll miss it. 😢 iiii.
The Reckoning (2023)
Too difficult to watch
What a disgusting man. What a disgusting cover up. - there must be more people held accountable, surely - his contemporaries, "friends" (like Rolf Harris), the team around him, Tv management - could all be held culpable? I always thought he was a creep, like some of the current celebrities being reviewed. "There's probably more perpetrators to uncover and more victims to empathise with. Historical abuse, in my view, is difficult to evaluate when the era is considered, but these events are unforgivable. I wonder if Operation Yewtree ended prematurely. I sincerely hope these men are brought to justice.
The Bear (2022)
Falling away
Amazing first series, but the second one - really slow - had to force myself to watch in the hope that it became more interesting. Not a bad story line but too many boring episodes. Could've been accomplished in 5. If there's a third series I hope it is more captivating. I'd really like to see what happens, but, it needs to be better to hold my attention. Good characters, cast and acting - just drawn out. Also, generally, too much time filling with unimportant scenes about food and history of family - blah, blah, blah. Yes, of course we need to know about the family history but episodes like the Christmas one - 👎👎👎
Charming the Hearts of Men (2021)
Worth the watch
... and wait! Nothing to substantiate the concept until 1.5 hours, but well acted, good script, and of course "true". Very enjoyable watch. In spite of the political truth (😩), there's a lot to merit this film. Sexual discrimination was the norm, and it's good to be reminded of it, and how far we've progressed. Kelsey plays the part well - the script, his delivery, empathy, in spite of the historical biases he's had to support historically. Of course there's sexual seduction, discrimination and harassment, even, misogyny, but it works out. Civil rights prevail, addressing sexism and racism. An engaging historical romantic drama.
Bodies (2004)
Who'd be a doctor? 😩
Even less faith in doctors now than before, which wasn't a lot, particularly now (2022), post pandemic, when it's practically impossible to see a doctor and the NHS is failing catastrophically. At best a GP is a gateway to a specialist or hospital, but what awaits is hardly encouraging. Most individuals in the profession are obviously good people, but the system is against them. Acting is good, and the story lines. Surprised I missed the original screening - big fan of medical dramas - but this is probably the best, most realistic that I've seen. Thoroughly recommend and disappointed that there's no further series.
Murder in Provence (2022)
Disappointing
Roger Allam - too typecast and way too similar to Endeavour where he was great.
The episode was so slow.
Star cast deliver expected lines in their usual manner.
Rogue (2020)
Underrated
Maybe the star's makeup was impeccable; so what? She's pretty gorgeous. Acting seemed ok to me. Lion scenes were scary enough. It kept me entertained, interested, and on the edge of my seat. Lots of difficulties in attempting to extract the victim. Very watchable.
