Sweet Home Alabama (2002)
Sweet Home Alabama
Aside from having a sound track full of all my guilty pleasures and such, Sweet Home Alabama has even more to offer. It's funny and the romantic parts are just adorable (especially the parts about lightning, just so wonderful for a helpless romantic like me). Despite the sadness in the middle and the really hard choice between her high school lover and the charming mayor's son, it really was a rather cute film.
All I know is that I live in Georgia, in a town south of Atlanta. I don't think this movie portrays the south badly at all. I'm willing to poke fun at my own family (who mostly live in rural South Carolina) for the sake of this funny stuff. The jokes sometimes get a bit stereotypical, but it's all done with light-hearted fun. The fact is, I know several people like the characters in this film. Possibly, I even see some of it in myself. I'm not saying it's an absolute dead on outline of everyone in the south, but it's not a documentary...
By the end of Sweet Home Alabama I had remembered my southern-ness that I had completely disregarded for so long. Of course, my southern heritage is not what this review is about. I'm definitely NOT trying to say that this movie got all psychological with me and made me realize my true self or something. I'm saying that it was cool to see myself and others I know laughing at what it basically, though much more of a stereotype, ourselves. It was nice to laugh at myself for once and see others do the same. It's about the fact that, no matter where you're from, I'd definitely would consider seeing Sweet Home Alabama if I were you. See it. Accept it. Love it! ♥
The Jerry Springer Show (1991)
Love <3
No one knows how addicted I am. I love The Jerry Springer Show. At first I, like many people, saw it as very trashy. But then I saw how funny it was. Jerry truly does try to help people, and if he can't... it sure is funny in the process! Jerry Springer obviously pokes fun at his guests on many occasions as well which just adds to the lovable absurdness of it all. The show is based around finding the most bizarre stories in the first place... and then encouraging them to fight! (among other things) There is audience interaction which is usually quite hilarious and each time you watch it you have no idea what people will do or say next. Springer gives me joy every time I see it and because of that I say it's awesome. I <3 IT. =D
Also, I have a t-shirt. =)
The X Files (1993)
Growing Up watching The X Files
As a young child, my parents let me watch almost anything that they watched on TV. This included The X Files. I was always excited to see it come on TV. Later in my childhood, I decided to revisit The X Files. There my family was, watching all of the episodes... some my parents had seen and some they had not. I grew up laughing, loving, and many times questioning the truth with The X Files. (My friend and I had a little crush on Mulder when we were about 7 or 8. xD) I spent countless nights watching my favorite episodes... and I still do. Now we have so many inside jokes, along with family memories, all thanks to The X Files. These days it even provides an easy way for our family to spend time together without me getting tired of my parents. The X Files continues to excite me every day. I love this show and I am grateful for all of the childhood memories it provided and still provides each day. ♥
The Mangler (1995)
Hmmm....
Oh... what to say. This is a REALLY bad movie... at first. Then it grows on you. Of course, that's only if you learn to love and accept it. It seemed SO bad that I thought it was a joke. Then I found out that someone actually thought this was a good idea for a horror movie. But, that only made it funnier. I actually wound up enjoying it. It reminds me of movies like "Squirm" that are actually so awful, but are taken seriously so... that they wind up being somewhat good. My view is to make it your own "Mystery Science Theater 3000" or something. I suppose you have to be a certain type of person for this kind of thing though. But, I recommend seeing it... just for laughs, not for scares. =)
Saw (2004)
I loved it.
I may be considered a "strange little girl" by many, but I LOVE horror flicks. This, is one of the best ones I have ever seen. I saw it when I was 11 and I could tell that it wasn't like other horror films. It had a real plot and feeling about it. It was so phycological too. It had it all! It made you think. "Oh... what would I do in this situation." and it made it feel like Jig-Saw was a REAL killer. Any movie that can make me scream like I did when I saw some parts of Saw has something... because I don't scream over just anything. I've always had a soft spot for gore, violence, killing, suspense, and AHMAZZZING plot twists... so I am very happy to add Saw (1, 2, 3... I'm soon going to add 4 I'm sure) to my list of loved movies! =)
Totally Awesome (2006)
This movie was indeed "Totally Awesome."
Wow... I really liked this movie when I saw it last night. One reason for that is because I like 80's movies a lot. But I will say there are many things to make fun of about 80's movies. That's why it was perfect for a spoof. Basically, Totally Awesome provided my friends and I with movie quotes to shout out at random times for forever. It really made us have something to laugh about even when we weren't watching it. Also, if it means anything, I liked this movie so much that the second time it came on I hurried up and recorded it! Still, it gets away with a lot of funny things. I have to say that, since it's a spoof and isn't supposed to make sense, it was pretty good. =D
