Who Am I - Kein System ist sicher (2014)
Fight club ripoff with a little personal note
"Who am I". It was pretty clear to me, what I will write about this movie right from the beginning, but I wanna start with some positive criticism:
The movie is a solid thriller, that has a fast driven story and never feels overly stretched. I must confess, that I had no idea how this movie would be, since I haven't read anything about it beforehand and therefore was not expecting the "Fight club" twist, even though I realized the weird situation with the car key (it was hard to miss, I know ) and some other small indicators. It was nicely shot and it was clear, that a professional was the DP, but he clearly has a fable for close ups (kind of annoying).
Now to the bad side...
The movie is a complete rip off and genre translation of Fight club. Starting with the obvious: the imaginary friend situation. Yes of course in the end they reveal it's all a big trick but that was just to make this movie a little different from fight club
Than the 3 rules of MRX which are a clear copy of the rules of fight club and lastly the girlfriend drama, with the friend taking the girl he wants even though the protagonist stays the emotional partner of the girl.
Going on... the writer tried to hard to make sure everyone understands the protagonist is a nerd by always putting in some quotes from big franchises like Star Wars or Superman (DC franchise).
Those made the movie a little less enjoyable but over all I liked the Movie a lot and it was of Good quality, wich is a surprise, for people that know the current German movie industry.
I hope the review was helpful,
Have a nice day!
Free Guy (2021)
Exactly what was promised
First of all: Nobody should expect this movie to be an outstanding masterpiece, that's not what it's supposed to be.
Now that the ground rules are set: Ryan Reynolds' performance is fitting the character perfectly... probably because he helped writing him... and he's giving him a hilarious way.
Other than that I pretty much enjoyed all the references I found on the first watch and loved how it displayed the crazy things happening in video games (e.g. The one guy dancing on top of the flag at the bank)
The story was original never felt dragged because of the two big plot lines that crossed each other over and over again. In the Cinema the Overall reaction to the film was amazing and I felt the same.
Did it archive it entertain? Yes -> 5
Good references -> 1
Funny -> 1
Original -> 1
--> 8/10.
Paper Towns (2015)
Underrated and misunderstood!
Honestly I must say, that I was never really interested in watching this movie, but now that I did and after I read all those bad reviews I must say a lot of people misunderstood the message.
The biggest criticism I found in those reviews was, that the ending was unsatisfactory, but I must say I think the total opposite:
The protagonist went through all this trouble to find a girl he thought he loved, because he has build a perfect person in his head, that he associated with her. In the end he doesn't find out that she doesn't like him or anything close to that but rather that she isn't the person he made up in his head. She doesn't ask him to go, she even asks him to go with her or at least gives him the option. He realizes, that he is not compatible with her but rather should be with his fiends and find someone who shares his view of the world, but he still knows he has a friend in her if they should ever meet again.
So much about the Story!
The shots were quite... let's say interesting...! It often seemed like the shots weren't worked out as well as they could have been. Some weird angles in situations where I'd say the impressions of the characters would have been very important line the first time Q talks to Lacey in the school hall, the director chose to use a close up but moved down a little which made it hard to focus on the impressions. On the other hand there were some nice shots like the distanced shot in the abandoned gift shot when they are still very scared and the camera moving in as they get more comfortable with the situation.
Over all I think is was a nice Movie That is definitely underrated on IMDb
Entertaining -> +5
Nice story well converted -> +1
Overall solid set choices and nice shots -> +2
-> 8/10.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
A true masterpiece.
Oh Lord I Must confess, as I have sinned!
I have just watched the movie for the first time and must say it's a True MASTERPIECE!
With its open and difficult but still so realistic conversations as well as the masterful performances by the actors, I must say I understand why it's the top rated movie on IMDb.
You feel the exact emotions the movie wants you to feel from the weird feeling of liking of a condemned murderer up until the end where i must say the movie got a tear from me, what is quite unusual for me.
This movie gets you and is already on my list of my all time favorites, as I continue to think about everything happening in the movie over all this time and how those characters developed an amazing synergy that makes you as the viewer constantly hope for them, feel the pain for their dying comrades and be happy when they have a nice moment.
Over all I must say it's a perfect movie, that I would have to watch quit a lot more to find mistakes and only if I were really looking for some, but since I hate looking for something wrong I like to focus on the good things and this movie has an uncountable amount of these.
-> 10/10 Perfektion!!!
Countdown (2019)
Decent horror film with some flaws
The movie has a nice idea as a Good Basis.
The acting is pretty good you don't feel like you are watch a Movie and get pulled in the captivating story of those two people who are trying to save their own life.
Some characters in the story feel to unrealistic but over all it has solid characters.
The story is not feeling to stretched what is partially because they decided to go for just a Little longer than 90 minutes which was the right choice for this film.
The ending is, for my taste, to much of a forced happy ending, if were to write this movie, I'd go for a end that's redeeming the hero for accepting her fate and sacrificing herself for all the others, that used the app. The fact that they set up a possible sequel with the ending scene was a unnecessary choice and made the entire movie feel kinda useless since the plan and the deaths didn't solve anything at all. On the other hand it makes sense since she didn't really sacrifice herself, because she never died and therefore the entire plan of breaking the Devils curse with someone dying earlier than planed is incomplete.
Over all it was a entertaining movie -> +5 points
It was ok written and had some good performances -> +2 points
7/10 for me but I'm always a Little bit nicer than most others on IMDb.
