I Got the Hook Up 2 (2019)
There's a Difference Between Being Funny & Trying To Be Hard To Be Funny
My headline & rating says it all that this falls under the latter. I recently to save expenses had to gut the cable part of Comcast as I can't afford it anymore for the time being so I'm looking for movies on YouTube to watch I found this film on here & me being a huge No Limit from back in the day with their music & even having some of their films I thought let me check this out since I enjoyed the original & have that on DVD. Say what you want about the original that came out during No Limit's Peak year of 1998 where they were dropping stuff every week/every 2 weeks in stores, but the original was at least funny & entertaining, this one was the exact opposite. I really tried hard to give this a chance but I can't even get past the first 15 minutes with how bad the over the top trying too hard to be funny acting is coming across with old recycled black hood stereotypical tropes that honestly wore out its welcome a long time ago. The newer comedians that appear in this who can be an acquired taste prove why they are an acquired taste. Trust me if you have to pick between this & the original that came out in 1998 to view, it's a simple no brainer to go with the original at least that was entertaining which is something that I can't say the same for here.
Turbulence (1997)
Film That Has WTF Written All Over It
Oh God where to begin? My headline pretty much says it all & since we can't use profanity on here the abbreviated acronym of WTF will have to do because this movie makes absolutely no sense at all. Before I go into my review, let me first start off by saying it's not the best movie by far but also not the worst movie ever made either, however it is the worst film in the category of airplane terrorist films to be made. If you want to view a better airplane terrorist movie than Passenger 57, Air Force One (which ironically was released 6 months & 15 days after this on July 25, 1997) or Executive Decision are among the top in the category. I had to give this film a 3 as it falls short of being average for the simple fact that the storyline, plot & the acting is not only confusing but has no real focused direction. For starters, Ray Liotta who is a decent good actor overall must have forgotten which side of the fence his character was supposed to be on as far as good or evil. His character is supposed to be the villain/evil but from the beginning-halfway through the film you would never know it & think the exact opposite because his character is behaving like the hero/good guy. About halfway through the film he must've then remembered oh I forgot I'm supposed to be playing the bad guy here & out of nowhere forcibly unleashes rage & anger out on Catherine Hicks character. His character is suppose to be a Ted Bundy esque serial killer who falls in love with women & then kills them well when we meet his character in the film's beginning you would never know that because they didn't show him killing a victim or planning intent to kill his next victim with the cops reviewing his case file or previous incidents through photographs, video surveillance or literary articles such as a magazine or newspaper clippings. Hector Elizondo who plays the cop/detective arresting Liotta's character comes off more like the villain throughout the first half of the film than the person who is actually supposed to be the evil bad guy. Easily, this goes into Liotta's worst films ever done column & what's baffling when you read in the trivia section for this film is that they made 2 straight to dvd sequels despite it being a failure at the box office but because home video rentals for it were great. How on earth is that justification for making a sequel regardless of whether it's theatrically released or not? Shouldn't making a sequel be based on a demand for it from fans? However if this would've been made in the 2010's rather than 1996/1997 they would've made a sequel for it regardless as they were doing that for every film & turning it into a franchise. I can honestly see why the screenwriter for this felt conflicted because of how bad it came off but yet he got paid for making it. Again not the worst film but certainly not great, if you see it you'll either enjoy it for what it's worth or outright despise it.
Vanishing on 7th Street (2010)
Not as Interesting as You Would Think
For anyone who's seen any films from The Final Destination Franchise the plot is somewhat similar death is coming to get the survivors who avoided death. Major difference is with The Final Destination movies they build up the suspense of who's next to go & how they die or how they survive death's attempt to take them. Here the problem with Vanishing On 7th Street the plot centers on a Blackout taking lives without a real explanation as to why or where the bodies end up vanishing to. What hurts the film is the rush immediately to the blackout in the beginning without really building up to the unexpected blackout with no character background development to our eventual survivors. After they show Paul being the first survivor to notice something was wrong, it then jumps to out of nowhere Rosemary screaming for someone without really transitioning to the scene. OK at least when they got to Luke there was some buildup after he wakes up & realizes something happened as he tries to find his girlfriend/fiancée. Anyway, as time goes on with watching this film I realized, "Wow this movie is not interesting enough to hold my attention for the whole Hour & 30 minutes or so of its duration". In theory, the concept can work it was just poorly executed of how & when to start the climax which just drags this story out for far too long. Acting isn't bad per say, it's just the overall storytelling process could & should have been better. Had this happened it would have gotten a higher rating & would have at least cracked the average mark from my viewpoint. Don't waste your time on this, I didn't even finish it because it's that boring.
Partyline (2007)
Not Something I'd Go Out Of My Way To See
So IMDB has this film listed as being produced & scheduled to drop in the year 2007, the only problem was this film was not released until 7 years later in 2014 as a Straight-To-DVD flick & by that time those 900 "Partyline" Numbers were no longer popular as Internet Dating had well taken over that. So I saw this film today as it was a Free Movie with Amazon Prime & even though it had got a low rating I'm like alright well see for myself if it's really as bad as the rating suggests. Where to begin?... For starters it's actually title Deadly Obsession & the actors on the cover art are not the actors in the film so right there sends up red flags before even watching it. The acting is so terrible as it sounds like all the actors are reading their lines off a teleprompter nothing comes across as natural as everything seems so over the top scripted even outside of reading the lines. The plot or storyline build gives really no good reason why Brandi dumps Neil in the first place nor does it really explain why Alex comes across like an obsessed psychopath to begin with. 1 or 2 dates between Brandi & Alex doesn't really give Alex a reason to stalk Brandi when she asks to take it a slow. You're still just getting to know someone at that point so there's np reason to become clingy that soon into a possible relationship & then there's the ending where there's no reveal as to what happened to Brandi & Neal, if Alex is dead & how or what possessed Anita. Overall the film is not something I recommend going out of my way to see, but if you're bored it might just suffice.
John Tucker Must Die (2006)
Don't waste your time watching this crap.
This movie looked stupid even before I saw it. Do not waste your time watching this movie if you think you're going to find humor in this. Though this film is considered a Chick-Flick I'm sure even women find this movie ridiculous on any level. You're better off watching movies like You, Me & Dupree; Accepted; Something New and so on. You get the message but if you're into watching tasteless filth or if you just want to see some hot girls than this film is for you. This movie even makes The Fifth Element a good movie to watch & everybody knows The Fifth Element sucked. I personally can't see why anybody would want to waste their time & money seeing this God-Awful movie. What also adds to the useless crap in the movie is there is a Food Fight scene in the last part in the film which is ridiculous & is not needed for a movie that already sucks from the get-go. If I'm going to waste my time watching people make asses out of themselves I'd watch a President Bush Speech on television. Save your Money there are better film choices out there.
