The Spirit of the Great Westerns lives on
15 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I wasn't sure what to expect from this and went in comparatively blind, but within the first few minutes I was totally captivated by this tale. I have seen all the greatest westerns and I genuinely feel this is as good as anything from John Ford to Sergio Leone . The cinematography is simply stunning almost every scene could be framed and put on a wall, the acting is perfect particularly the two central characters. The soundtrack compliments the stunning vistas. At the heart of this tale of revenge is a beautiful love story. Did I cry - I'm not ashamed to admit I did. Simply the best show I've seen on TV in a very long time.

Very accurate.
23 August 2022
I was 25 years as a " riot cop " and this TV series does a great job of showing how it is. Life on the van , the chaos of a violent hostile crowd, the confusion and questionable ethics involved in evictions , the stress of being under investigation, the impact on your home life, the comradeship and how it can all turn sour under pressure. Clearly the makers had input from serving or retired Police. Sure some things are exaggerated for dramatic effect but by and large this is nailed on. Great acting and also a fantastic soundtrack. I would highly recommend this TV series.

As good as Breaking Bad ( maybe better )
13 July 2022
I'll admit being such a huge fan of Breaking Bad I was late to the party as far as this show goes, I personally couldn't see a " spin off " series being on a par with BB and avoided it for several years before finally taking the plunge and boy am I glad I did , without a doubt this is on a par and this episode is the high water mark ( so far ) No spoilers here, but this episode is as near to perfection as a TV show can be, I couldn't take my eyes off the screen , I was utterly gripped . 10 out of 10. Better than Breaking Bad - probably.

This episode broke me
26 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
For a long time I avoided watching this Series, I loved The Office and After Life but I'm embarrassed to admit I thought I might find it offensive to a person with disabilities, nothing could be further from the truth and this final episode of season 1 is the perfect episode, maybe it's because I reconnected with my estranged father towards the end but the last 10 minutes of the episode broke me, I was an emotional wreck it was so beautifully written that it truly stuck a cord . Maybe I chose kindness like Derek.

Comedy value
3 March 2022
Surely this is a parody, if so it gets a 2 for its comedy value, if not and this is serious then it's possibly one of the worst films ever made. At least Football Factory and it's like had some redeeming qualities but this is shockingly bad. OK maybe I should have given it a 3 for the background music .

Seriously Underrated backwoods horror
30 November 2021
Only discovered this wonderful film fairly recently and have watched it 4 times, I don't know how it escaped me all these years. Yes it's clearly inspired by Deliverance which others have noted, but that's no bad thing. The performances are outstanding particularly Hal Holbrook , this has a real creepy atmosphere, some genuine shocks along the way and is one of the best backwoods horrors ever made.

100 Foot Wave (2021– )

The definitive Surfing Documentary
25 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Truly stunning documentary series about the crazy world of big wave surfers chasing the 100 foot wave in Nazare, Portugal. Garrett McNamara and friends are responsible for putting Nazare on the map in the world of surfing and this documents that journey and spans several years. The cinematography and soundtrack make this a stunning experience. I've seen most of the best Surfing documentary's including Riding Giants ( nice to see Laird Hamilton in this ) but this truly is definitive. I'm a frustrated Surfer so perhaps I'm a little biased but this will certainly appeal to everyone.

Review from a non fisherman
7 October 2021
It doesn't matter whether you fish or not this beautiful series is perfection. Rarely have I seen a program that shows our Country in such a glorious light. Mortimer and Whitehouse rapport is both hilariously funny and at times very moving. The background music is also perfectly chosen, The Proclaimers - After you've gone in Season 2 is a particularly moving highlight as is Vide Cor Meum at the close of Season 3. If you want 30 minutes of calm joyous television after the stresses of modern living please watch this show.

Breaking Bad , Sopranos, Mr Inbetween - it's that good
15 July 2021
No spoilers here, I've written a review on this show before but just wanted to add my voice to the series end. A fitting finale to one of the great unseen shows, it really is as good as the aforementioned shows. It's such a shame there won't be a fourth season but if this really is the last we see of Ray Shoesmith it's a satisfying conclusion.

Underrated heist movie
14 July 2021
I see the comparisons with " Heat " as this clearly draws from that classic, but I do feel this stands alone also as a superior heist movie, it has an excellent ensemble cast , tense action and hard boiled dialogue. From a technical point of view and I can speak from having had nearly 20 years frontline firearms experience this film is spot on the weapons handling is excellent and very accurate and I particularly liked the " tac up " sequence. I do feel this film gets lost in the shadow of " Heat " but deserves to be held in similar high regard.

High watermark in Prison Dramas
7 June 2021
Wow, just finished watching all 3 episodes back to back and felt compelled to write a brief review. Over the years I've seen countless Prison based dramas both small screen and big screen and this truly ranks amongst the best. All the performances were pitch perfect with particular plaudits for Graham surely one of the best acting talents this country has produced in recent times. I found this to be profoundly moving and hope come awards season it receives the praise and awards it truly deserves.

Epic Action
26 December 2020
Arguably the greatest episode of action TV ever. Episode 5 takes it to the next level. Cinematic Style action and bloodshed that really does crank it up to max, seriously think John Woo or even Sam Peckinpah it really is that good.

14 December 2020
This is the first time I've felt compelled to register with IMDB and write a brief review of this show. Firstly I'm surprised with the small amount of reviews on here, trust me, I've seen them all, loved The Wire, Breaking Bad, The Shield etc and although much smaller in scope Mr In-between is up there with the best of them. Truly, this show blew me away, it strikes the perfect balance, moments of shocking violence, moving scenes of domestic life, comedic dialogue and at times profoundly moving. I enjoyed The Magician the feature length fly on the wall film that preceded this series but this is far more polished. The acting from all concerned is perfect and this show really deserves a wider audience. My only issue as others have noted is the episodes aren't long enough !!
