The Killer (2023)
Pointless...
I started it, so I finished it but if I could go back, I'd never start it. It was a pointless film.
The plot didn't make much sense; hitmen sent to kill another hitman for failing a hit and they too fail. Instead of killing him, they seriously assault his partner but don't kill her (leaving a witness) and obviously a very angry hitman. They just pack up and go home believing there to be no repercussions (forgetting the reason they had the contract in the first place)?
It was just weird and his revenge was lacklustre.
The only upside was the scenery and some okay songs from the Smiths.
If you want to have some background noise then this'll do as the protagonist never stops monologuing, otherwise, give it a miss!
The Perfect Pitch (2021)
Misleading...
The title of the programme is 'Perfect Pitch' yet, we don't get to actually see any of the campsite; what are the toilets/showers like, is there an on-site shop, EHU etc?!
It's all very well showing me what the local area offers but if the campsite itself is not fit for purpose, I won't be staying!
I appreciate that they may not be able to film everywhere, however, they could give insight in to the campsite when scoring. What did they like or not like; what were the stand-out features?
Shame, as this programme could have been great. I will continue to watch on the basis of the things to do in the areas shown, whether I visit one of the campsites or not.
Sugar (2024)
I'm Furious....
So I was rather enjoying this series, started off pretty solid, albeit it, some of the scenes/dialogue were a bit outlandish. Loved the cinematography and the inner dialogue of Sugar- a nod to the great detective films of times past. But, NOTHING could have prepared me for how outlandish it really got in episode 6. I didn't even see it coming...it's so left field and as the title of my review states; I'm furious! I plodded on until the end because I'd already invested so much time watching episodes 1-6 but I was totally uninvested by that point and had to watch with my expectations severely lowered. What a shame, it could have been great and I know we have many detective shows already; all pretty similar but this really did stand out from the rest, so there was no need for the twist at all!
Liaison (2023)
Mixed Feelings
I'm not sure whether I liked this or not. I kept watching though, as the storyline could/should have been great-it had me intrigued.
It was just let down with a weak script; people making decisions and reacting to situations in ways that I just can't believe 'real' people would. If our nation's security is reliant on people such as those in the show, well, I think we are all doomed!
I was really hoping for something better, like Tehran, which is brilliant and more realistic in the way the story unfolds.
Overall, I've scored it a 7, but this is based on my prior scores for shows which were definitely worse than this but scored similarly...so it's only fair.
The Holiday (2021)
Just don't bother..
So the premise had me intrigued & I'd heard good things about the book. Not having read it and not knowing much about the plot, I thought I'd give the TV show a watch. Regretted it about 5 mins in. The acting was abysmal (Jill Halfpenny is the standout unsurprisingly but that's not saying much).
I somehow managed to watch the entire first episode but by the end, I wouldn't have cared if they all drowned at sea. Acting apart, the storyline is ridiculous & people just would not act the way these people (including the extremely annoying children), did. If the storyline in the book is different; I don't know, but if it's the same as the TV show, ironically, I shan't base my 'to watch' list, on good reviews, any longer!
The Night Agent (2023)
Suspend your thoughts on procedures & pretty solid show
This show is pretty similar to the U. K. show, Bodyguard & so I thought I'd give it a watch as I enjoyed that show.
However, I wasn't sure about The Night Agent when I first started watching as the first few episodes were just okay, due to some wooden acting & unbelievable moments but it did thankfully, improve as the episodes went on.
It still wasn't believable by any means; in re to procedures & how people would act in real world scenarios, but it kept me interested and I was invested in reaching the end.
Suffice to say, Im happy to learn that season 2 is in the works as it'll definitely be on my 'to watch' list!
Hijack (2023)
Suspend logic & you'll love it
Love Idris Elba so was excited when Hijack was released. Started off strong and kept me intrigued; even when having to wait a week for the next episode.
However, by episode 5, it started to get a little unbelievable and by episode 6, I was laughing at how silly it was getting.
Some of the actions taken by the people on the plane and on the ground, just wouldn't happen in reality-as far as I'm concerned.
I have one episode left so I'm hoping it ends strong, just as it started. Overall, I've enjoyed it but I would say, if you're going to watch it, don't take it too seriously as you'll be disappointed!
Luther: The Fallen Sun (2023)
Oh.
I have watched Luther (Tv Series), many times over in its entirety; it's that good! The film, however, is such a disappointment! I put it off for a while as I didn't hold out much hope for it and I wish I had trusted my instinct.
The plot is weak-I had no idea what was going on and frankly, didn't really care. It seems as though when writing this film, they cared more for the CGI rather than making the story comprehensible and the suspense engaging.
If you love the Tv Series, give the film a miss, it has nothing to do with the Tv Series as such and honestly, it doesn't even make that much sense!
From (2022)
Its okay, kept me watching...
I loved the TV series 'Wayward Pines' which has a similar premise & so thought I'd give this a go.
Having done so, it's okay; I wanted to keep watching to see what happened and overall, I can't complain.
Only things letting it down for me, is some poor acting from certain characters and some of the dialogue is ridiculous and feels contrived.
The Lincoln Lawyer (2022)
All those moaning about ethnicity...Read the book!
For those moaning that the lead is Mexican, have you even bothered to read the book or are you basing your reviews on the film?
Had you have read the book, you'd know that Haller is half Mexican!
Due to the film, I can see why it's difficult to picture Haller as anyone else but McConaughey however prior to the film, I'd thankfully read the book and so my 'image' of Haller was very different.
In re to the T. V show, as someone else mentioned, I can't see Haller surfing, but with the exception of the missing Bosch (who made appearances in this book) & the driver being female, then this is a great representation of the storyline! Stick with it, the acting gets better!
