The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012)
Super Dwarf version of Die Hard
100% disappointing. How these guys managed to destroy a well written and interesting story? For me it is a mystery. Tolkien was a master of storytelling but you can hardly recognize his work in this farce. Peter Jackson has lost his touch and succumbed to the temptation of believing that he could "improve" Tolkien's work. The result is disastrous. A boring film of excessive Holywoodesque fights and chases. Maybe some scenes could be spared; those that stick to the book, but what it is unforgivable to introduce characters and scenes just to lengthen the film and, supposedly, attract more audience. Well, don't count me in; I will surely skip The Hobbit II and The Hobbit III.
Avatar (2009)
Avatar is not an original story
Yes, I totally agree with jerichocane-1, Avatar is a remake of Dances with Wolves, but with blue and very tall Indians.
Moreover, there is question in the IMDb FEQ section that says, and I quote:
"Is "Avatar" based on a book?
No. Avatar is based on an original screenplay penned by writer/director/producer James Cameron".
That is not exactly true. Many years ago, in a book of the "The Science Fiction Hall of Fame edited by Ben Bova, I read a story about a crippled man on a wheel chair, mentally connected to a super-being (a feline centaur in this case) who was intended to establish a colony in a very aggressive planet, unfit for human settlers. At the end, the man abandons his wasted human form to live a new, challenging life in the planet. Sounds familiar?
Unfortunately, I remember neither the title nor the name of the writer.
I concede that Avatar has a good creative work regarding the environment in Pandora, but the script is a bad mixture of good old stories.
By the way, wasn't there also a pirate called Cameron?
P.S. Well, I finally found the story. It is Poul Anderson's "Call me Joe", written in 1957.

And I accept that some mediocre script writers find "inspiration" in other people writings, but at least they should have the decency of giving the credit.
Bedtime Story (1964)
Fine comedy and acting
Bedtime Story is a fine comedy with two superb actors. The story, the rhythm of the movie and the acting is characteristic of the best period of the English, American, Italian and French comedy. No special effects, just a good story and good acting. Excellent!. Good comedies in the fifties, sixties and seventies were common, Bedtime Story is one, Prudence and the Pill, The Pink Panther, How to Murder Your Wife, The Statue, The Ladykillers, etc
I do not like re-makes in general, but I hate bad re-makes. The bad news is that the list of re-makes is growing. Is it because they lack creativity and ingenuity? Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a really bad one. I wonder why Steve Martin keeps trying to show the world how lousy actor and worse comedian he is compared to Brando or Peter Sellers in the Pink Panther. The same for the 2004 version of The Ladykillers, it is awful. So, my recommendation is: stick to the originals.
