Nice idea but incomplete!
6 February 2022
I found the idea very interesting but the movie turned out to be very average. It felt like watching an episode of the Twilight Zone. Pretty soon the plot twists appeared to be ludicrous. What a pity!

Not for everyone!
6 February 2022
If you are not used to latin humour, well, you will have a hard time watching this movie. Much like Russian movies, the pace and logic is very different from the Western humour popularized by Hollywood. You have to understand that what makes an American audience laugh, actually will not have the same result on other audiences.

Wow, this is a refreshing take on the topic. If you thought magic narratives were old-fashioned, this movie will prove you wrong. I had high expectations and they were perfectly met!

At Your Own Risk
28 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is a mini-series dealing with the Hylics (or Somatics), one of the three types of human in the Gnostic belief system. See, Somatics are human beings who are completely bound to Matter (i.e the material world) and cannot understand anything relating to the Spiritual Realm.

If you are new to the concept, chances are that you, too, will not get where the series is going or its purpose. So, I advise you to watch the whole series (only three episodes) and come back later for the spoiler.

Spoiler ahead: A group of scientists and other staff members (as such as the cook) from around the world gather in a Nordic facility to harvest important data that, they hope, will lead them to better understand the Universe. Unfortunately, right before a crucial astronomical event, part of the top scientists of the group get completely obsessed about finding the end of a rope that is resting on the ground in the middle of nowhere. On their way to the end of the line, a series of events will cause some of them to have a mental breakdown bringing about the death of many. In the end, the cook discovers that the long rope intersect with another long rope perpendicularly in the wilderness.

My explanation: See, you can only understand the series if you know about the Gnostic belief system. It is a criticism of the illusion of discovering an end to the gathering of knowledge in the material world. It is also a criticism of the idea that one could find real knowledge through analysis or dissecting one by one each part of the Whole. The intersecting ropes represent the indefinite extension of the material world through time and space and are the four directions of an orthogonal Cartesian paradigm. Two directions (up and down) are implied to fully represent the three dimensional paradigm. It is ironical that the cook who especially mentioned in the first episode that he could not understand anything about the scientists' quest for knowledge is actually the one who discovers that this quest is pointless after having inherited the same obsession to know in finding the end of the line.

You can do your own research to understand why Gnostics believed this obsession to be pointless and especially why the other two types of human (i.e Psychics and Pneumatics) are regarded as closer the Truth than the Hylics. As a whole, the idea developed in the movie was very interesting but the drawback is that many people are probably going to be disappointed for lack of proper knowledge about the Gnostic belief system beforehand.

OK yet another Halloween movie !
27 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I know that there is another movie ready to be released after that one, and that is pretty much enough to explain why that movie is kind of in between and doesn't go anywhere. Yes, we learn somehow more about Michael Myers, but I wonder who cares anymore at this point ?

Laurie Strode is a Sarah-Connor-Ripley'esque heroin (Terminator and Alien), and I hope that the next installment will be kind of explosive.

OK yet another Venom movie !
27 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Alright, I will just say that that movie was made to explain why there will be a coming up movies between Spiderman and Venom.

Meanwhile, it was just another Venom movie, nothing more nothing less. The villains were not really interesting at all, and the alien's mental health and desires... even less.

One of the best MCU movie !!!
27 January 2022
I actually didn't believe anything could top Endgame but the MCU has recently surprised me with the latest Spiderman, and Shang-Chi is really perfect. The cast is fantastic and the story is great. I'm glad to congratulate the whole team on such a nice project. Thumbs up !

Satire or mockery... for you to decide !
27 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A realistic take on our dystopian society but it's actually shallow, thus lacking intellectual depth. We are led to believe that the root of all Evil is actually each and everyone's Ego. I doubt that the movie stars who worked in that project are ready to give up on their position as leaders and role models for the masses. In the end it felt like the joke was not on the politicians, scientists or TV leaders but on 'YOU' the viewer.

Evil whiskey makers !
27 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm more than ready to believe that the general public has no clue about the real causes of important historical events, but I doubt it all holds in the hands of a crazy vengeful Scot.

It is somewhat a good action and adventure movie, but the only memorable scene will be Rasputin's fight. That was epic !

It's got everything to work but fails anyway !
27 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The director, the music and CGIs are great. The cast and the cameos are awesome. Yet the movie is pretty dull.

And that is probably due to bad writing. The pace is unbelievably slow and the story-line is pointless. The characterization is incoherent and here is an example, Phoebe is supposed to be a smart learned little girl, yet when asked about who built the pyramids in Egypt, she answers 'the slaves' while actually no serious scientists would say that. Slaves building the pyramids is a well-known myth popularized by Hollywood movies. Actually, scientists have been saying all along that only skilled workers did the job. And this dialogue which was made to be funny, actually proved the girl to be surprisingly gullible.

To make things worse, the Woke propaganda is oozing out of the script: basically all male figures are goofy and stupid while female ones are down to earth serious characters seemingly in charge. I actually enjoyed the women reboot cause it was fun, but I can't stand the Woke narrative anymore; it is boring and dull and doesn't add anything to the story-line.

Hope to next installment will be better !

Fans are deluded ; this movie is good !
25 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Well, I can understand why fans are disappointed, but I reckon that their expectations from the first movie will never be matched.

This movie copied Night Shyamalan's Glass plot trying to make believe that Neo had imagined the events from the previous movies all along. And the result is actually a dull copy which is another reason why fans might be disappointed.

On the contrary, I was not expecting anything and basically enjoyed a rather slow-paced but good action film. Of course, the avatars are resurrected ; what else could have been expected ?! Of course, Neo and Trinity end up playing Adam and Eve ! There is nothing new and the script actually brags about it.

A very good movie !
25 December 2021
This movie is very entertaining and a lot of fun ! It is very close to what an anime version of it would have been and that makes it even more interesting. It really feels like it was made for kids just like DC's Shazam !

Surprisingly good!
14 December 2021
If you want to enjoy this movie, I must advise you to skip the beginning flashback, because it is totally unnecessary to the plot.

The rest of it is perfect and I am not going to spoil it here.

As the synopsis goes, a woman discovers that she can see visions of gruesome murders, and after the first vision, things get worse and worse for her.

Note for the director, James Wan :
  • The first scene is unnecessary,
  • The detectives are most of the time grotesque,
  • The whole movie should have had a more serious tone to it just like "Case 39".

Very modern theme
14 December 2021
You can only enjoy Shyamalan's movies if you understand that most of them - probably all of them - are psychological thrillers and not horror films.

I am not going to criticize Shyamalan's work because it has not really changed so far. I choose to congratulate him this time for the topic he decided to tackle.

Eternals (2021)
5/10
Too much threat !
14 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
There are too many villains in the story-line. I believe that the writers should have focused on one particular menace, because it felt like watching two movies in a row. As a result, none of the characters got a fair chance to be fully developed neither the eternals nor the deviants or the celestials. The deviant Kro is basically another instance of Ultron mixed with DBZ's Cell which absorbs other cyborgs to evolve but never gets to implement his revenge satisfactorily. Ikaris's treason and love affair with the heroin is totally cliché. And the celestials back story poses more issues, more questions and no answers. Though perfect in her role, Angelina Jolie (as Thena) can't redeem this parody of a movie which resembles Ms Marvel's first installment.

Interesting take on cyber bullying. It really has a deeper meaning about women and their place in society whether they are at places of power or under the leadership of another woman.

Awful !
27 June 2021
I can't believe anyone could have thought that this movie needed a sequel. This was a terrible idea. Apart from the flashback in the beginning, the whole movie remains nonsensical anyway !

27 June 2021
This movie is totally nonsensical from start to finish. I can't believe someone actually thought that might be a solid story for a horror movie, or they may have thought that it would play out differently on screen. Well, they were wrong. It's a perfect waste of time.

Plot and Ending are O.K.
27 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I don't understand some reviewers' frustration about the plot. The viewer doesn't need the director to show them parts of the story that they can fill themselves, i.e. Uncle Rudy's accident is self-explanatory and the absence of evidence (perpetrator, lamp, rope etc.) removed by the kids will probably cause the lady's case to be closed, not mentioning the fact that she had passed out before anyone could talk.

It is clearly Tyler's view point that matters because he is the one who tells the story, so it's totally fine to have a flashback explaining the twist, but none about uncle Rudy's accident (that would be the father's view point but at no point is the viewer allowed to have access to his mind ; his private cross-dressing scene is actually explained in the flashback from the narrator's (Tyler's) point of view).

The ending is clearly upsetting and was probably chosen for that very purpose. We could talk about closure all day long but the fact of the matter is that many people who are remembered as honorable citizens also have dark secrets and the same goes for celebrities and historical figures.
