The Lion King (2019)
Visually stunning. But that's sadly it.
Everything that made the original so beautiful and memorable, this live-action remake lacks. I don't know if it's because I've watched the original so many times that I can not only recite the movie by heart but do so with the proper inflection, enunciation and weight behind the specific lines but the voice acting in the live-action was just flat, flat, flat. Flat and very robotic sounding with the majority of the characters speaking much slower than is natural in my opinion.
I think they tried too hard to match the original instead of going for some originality and well, you can't beat the original. So while visually stunning - I mean, the CGI is truly masterful in this movie - the overall voice acting failed to carry the emotions and story that is so near and dear to my heart.
DOA: Dead or Alive (2006)
5 girls, 1 bad guy...lots of entertainment!
DOA: Dead Or Alive is one of those entertaining summer blockbuster movies that are designed to keep you entertained throughout its duration. A video game to movie adaptation, it is not surprising that the movie has received such negative and positive comments.
For me personally I went to see the film only because Jaime Pressly was in it and even though I have only played the game a few times, I feel that the actresses chosen for the characters of Tina, Kasumi and Christie were spot on.
Turns out the movie was one heck of a ride. There's colorful, almost fantasy like scenery, hot girls showing some serious butt kicking action and a good dose of comedy. What more do you want?
True the movie lacks a solid plot line but then again this movie was designed for entertainment purposes, not for people's brains to work. Yes I was disappointed by the bad guy in the movie and yes I felt that Helena's character was not played well but no movie is perfect.
DOA: Dead Or Alive fits into the category people call a "popcorn film". It's a refreshing, high action movie with some seriously witty lines and beautiful women taking control of dangerous life and death situations.
The movie is worth the watch; forget what the critics are saying, forget all the nasty comments thrown in by "fans" of the game. This movie has outdone itself by not taking itself too seriously and that's what makes it a fun flick.
10/10 for well chosen actresses for the main 3 characters, a fast-paced storyline and incorporating moves from the game into the movie. Well done!
In Her Line of Fire (2006)
A Nice Action Movie!
I'm a sucker for action movies and this one really lived up to my standards. There's a whole lot of gun blazing, running for your life, making hard choices and good old fighting action.
What intrigued and amused me about this movie was one of the posters I found on the internet. I loved the tag line "Behind Enemy Lines No Man Can Stop Her. Only One Woman Can Touch Her." That obviously hinted that there was to be a lesbian storyline in the movie.
But the movie does not revolve much around the main character's love interest, resulting in a lack of intimate scenes between Mariel Hemingway and Jill Bennett's characters, save for two brief kissing episodes. But agreeing with another user's comments, it would not have seemed plausible for the movie to have a love scene seeing as the characters were always too busy looking over their shoulders and trying not to get killed and/or kidnapped.
Besides the movie has lots to entertain audiences with, including realistic gun fighting and chase sequences through a muddy, green jungle. The only disappointing scene in the movie was the plane scene. It was quite obvious that it was a computer generated scene and as a user pointed out, many mistakes and improper procedures aboard the plane were made.
But overall the actors did an amazing job at keeping my eyes glued to the screen. The chemistry between Mariel Hemingway and Jill Bennett's characters were a bonus so kudos to them for making it so.
