The War of the Worlds (1953)

All this violence and with a G rating.

What a wonderful country this was in the 50s. You could burn people. Blow up buildings, disintegrate persons right in front of the camera all in glorious color and with a G rating. How many Disney animated movies are put out today that aren't rated at least PG-13? Children in the '50s went in droves to watch the latest sci-fi film that used aliens in place of Russians, and this was not lost on those children, but the threat was the same... WAR. Yet the children came out of those theaters laughing and not afraid. I wonder if the result would be the same with our four five six and seven year olds of today?

Nothing to see here... Literally nothing. No ghosts, no demons, no things that go bump in the night... NOTHING! 4 people enter a house, with a " psychic" then nothing happens, the psychic leaves, and then... Nothing happens. They go to sleep, and something stupid happens that is not worth an hour and a half of your time to see. Like I said... Move along, nothing to see here.

Survivor (2000– )

Idea for a season of survivor

I have an idea for a season of survivor. In today's world with everybody being so sensitive and entitled why don't we have a season where the "snowflakes" battle the "Karen's" ? Obviously it would have to have different titles because the snowflakes and the karens would be offended by this title but I believe this could be one of the greatest and funniest seasons ever produced.

Survivor (2000– )

Season 41, I believe is the beginning of the end. The show used to be such a diverse social study on different classes, races, religions, etc. Living together, starving together, laughing, crying, competing, arguing, and celebrating together while trying to outwit, outplay, and Outlast your fellow competitor. Now you can't say the word "guys".

What used to be the greatest reality game show on the planet has been deluded by watered-down challenges and cancel culture. Survivor lost over a million viewers in just one season and I will be one of them. You're not truly surviving on this show anymore like you did in the first 15 years or so. Phrases that have infiltrated the lexicon of English language used in multiple versions of survivor around the world have been attacked and you can no longer address a large group of persons with a plural word like "guys"anymore . CBS and survivor have caved to cancel culture and snowflakes and what was once possibly the greatest game show ever created has just become a parody of what it used to be. I for one will truly miss survivor and I will continue to watch the first 40 seasons over and over.

Carlito's Way (1993)

Below average script, above average actors make for an average movie

The script in this film pulls out every trope of all the gangster films that came before it. Nothing new here, and the acting couldn't save it. We have it escape from rikers Island that we don't even get to watch how it took place, just the effects to take place afterward. Everybody that is male in this film is a piece of dung, the hairpiece on Sean Penn detracts from any words that come out of his mouth because you can't stop looking at how awful he looks. The music selected, is so typical, for instance during a love scene "you are so beautiful" by Joe cocker is playing in the background.

The Crescent Moon Clown (2018)

It's a 2 star movie, with a additional 2 for the ending.

This movie is the second worst of the bad Ben series I've watched so far, with this being the sixth one I've watched, and the second movie being the worst, however, the ending of this movie when Mr Tom Riley played by the wonderful Nigel Bach makes his appearance and executes his plan, brings this movie to be watchable just to see Tom play Nigel. I laughed out loud at Nigel's plan and execution, and for a few minutes. The movies that Tom Riley are in as far as the bad ben series, they work, his personality and attitude are what makes the bad Ben series watchable.

Relic (2020)

Why this is a true horror film.

In order to feel for our characters we must understand who our characters are. The main character is the house (grandma's brain) It signifies metaphorically what is happening to this family. The house is a metaphor for dementia. The grandmother already has dementia and as we enter the house for the first time the house is in slight disarray and disrepair, there is black mold growing along the walls in spots. As the movie progresses the house deteriorates more and the black mold increases in size. These are both metaphors for dementia and what is happening to the grandmother. This dementia is genetic, which is why we see the black spot on the mother, that the daughter finds, at the end of the film. The mother is going to take responsibility for her mother (grandmother) and the daughter has accepted what is her future (caring for her mother) and has come to terms with it, therefore you have three generations of dementia patients and future patients laying on the bed together.

This is true horror, it is an ending that they know is coming to them in their life that is inescapable, they know that their future has been genetically laid out ...and there is no escape.

Prisoners (2013)

Unrealistic police work makes it a hard sell.

When it comes to a missing person case, especially a child any information that can be gathered from a parent can't be beneficial to the detective. Around the 25 minute mark the father is trying desperately to give information to the detective and the detective flat out ignores him, and even seems bothered by the father. The police have a 48-hour hold on the suspect which will expire in a few hours, they say they have no reason to hold him, yet he attempted to run them over with his RV which is attempted assault on a police officer, those are charges that certainly could be used to detain the suspect.

The Act (2019)

Phenomenal case handled very well by Hulu.

You can go on to YouTube and watch the interrogations of both suspects as well as the trial. Hulu did a fantastic job of telling the story about 95% of what you see depicted on screen is what actually happened. The acting, especially by Joey King, was incredible. The script, lighting, sound, set designs, and supporting cast all exceptionally done. One of the best shows that Hulu has, up there with a Handmaid's tale.

Boogie Nights (1997)

"Sister Christian" you know the scene.

There are few movies that can take a song and marry it to a scene in a movie as well as boogie nights did. Making it so that when you hear that song the scene automatically pops into your head. "Reservoir dogs" did it with " Stuck in The Middle with you" , " Fast times at ridgemont high" with "Moving in stereo", and of course "Boogie nights" with "Sister Christian/ Jesse's girl" . I personally believe the ripoff scene in "boogie nights" is by far the most tense seen in any movie, with the song "sister Christian" playing so well into it.

Badder Ben: The Final Chapter (2017)

Works as a comedy

The biggest problem this movie has is that it is placed in the horror genre of film. This film works much better as a comedy especially when Nigel is on screen. The special effects are extremely funny, and Nigel's way of handling the situation so reminds me of a Mr Magoo with his eyesight intact, that also likes to use foul language. If you go into this movie looking for a laugh you're going to get more than you bargained for, if you're looking to get scared, you're watching the wrong movie.

Just read the other one two and three star reviews and they are correct. The acting in this is abysmal, they totally threw out what made the original "bad Ben" so much fun. In the original, All you heard were noises and all you saw were shadows so you're imagination filled in the blanks. Plus the acting was acceptable, the character acted appropriately, these people are just idiots.

Bad Ben (2016 TV Movie)

7 stars for the whole series, but you have to start.

In this series you have... Ghosts, demons, scarecrows, vampires, werewolves, and even the jersey devil... And I'm only on the 5th movie of the series. Bad Ben is just the start but I can't help but say that this movie works! It has all of the tropes of any other haunted House movie but it pulls them off so much more effectively. Because it's a single actor trying to figure out what is happening in his newly purchased house from a police auction and the clues are given to us sometimes before he sees them, which is why this works for me, we get information before the character does. It doesn't hold your hand, you have to pay attention or you may miss a clue. The jump scares are effective and probable, it's creepy, and it's funny.

The Warriors (1979)

What a blast

The opening 5 minutes of this film, as the various gangs strut their way to the meeting where all the gangs come together sets the tone for this, probably the best gang warfare film of all time. Excellent costumes, music, and the attitudes as the gang members show that they are hardcore on the gritty 1970s dirty streets of New York. This is just a fun film to watch. Sure, it is dated, some of the acting is not so great, and the script probably could have been tweaked a little bit... But damn is this a fun movie to watch.

Rorschach (2015)

Found this on YouTube and was quite surprised at how well the story was put together. It is a slow build but that's because it's a story and not an action flick. A great little supernatural ghost / invisible entity movie with decent acting some creepy moments and a proper ending. If this had been put out by Hollywood would have gave it a five but since it's independent and low budget I gave it a seven.

Wildling (2018)

No way this is a five

This movie is a three at best. It is all over the place, half of the scenes don't feel completed, the film just rambles. Had it all figured out at the 25 minute mark. You want a coming-of-age werewolf movie go watch Ginger snaps, you want an adolescent dealing with her supernatural torment go watch let the Right One in.

I had never heard of this movie but boy am I glad I watched it. I love a good story and man did this tell one. I thought it was going to end one of two ways and by golly they came up with a third. If you want to watch a good story unfold that hold your interest from beginning to the final scene give this one a chance.
