We're Here (2020)
Perfection!
I've cried in every episode. This is such an amazing, and much needed show. Perfect. Just perfect! I truly hope that it continues, and we see more of this positive, inspirational, empowering, ray of light!!
Rebecca (1940)
One of the best films ever made
Beautiful, dark, mysterious, and sometimes sinister.... Rebecca is not only a classic, but it set a bar for film making and storytelling that is impactful even today. Joan Fontaine is perfect at depicting the sweet naivety of the young girl who, even in the book, has no name. She is no one until she meets and marries Maxim de Winter, played by an epically brooding Laurence Olivier. There is intrigue, suspense, obsession, and maybe even MURDER! The black and white film only adds to the beauty and the darkness! A must see film!!
Meet Me in St. Louis (1944)
A classic
You're dead inside if you cannot appreciate the beauty of this nostalgic film. The costumes, the scenery, the epic musical numbers... it's Hollywood at its best!! This has been a favorite of mine for as long as I can remember, and it's a staple around Christmas, though it is not a centrally Christmas film and one you can enjoy year round. It will leave you feeling happy to be alive! Beautiful!
Watchmen (2019)
Just watch it!
The music! The action! The layering storyline!! It's all gold! This is not your typical superhero story, and I think that might be what I love most about this series. Forget about the nay-sayers, or controversy; if you're looking for something different, something exciting and thought-provoking - then watch Watchmen! If you're not hooked by the first episode, then this isn't a show for you.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989)
Good family fun
This movie is solidly in my top 3 favorite Christmas movies of all time. This has been a staple in my family's holiday traditions for as long as I can remember. If it's ever on, even midway through, I'm watching it and I rock with laughter every time, and always get hit right in the feels too. It never ever gets old!!
Call Me by Your Name (2017)
Terribly overrated
I was very much anticipating a beautiful, amazing film after hearing all of the reviews for this film. I finally took the time to watch it, and wound up wishing I hadn't. Unlike many other reviewers, I thought that the "love affair" was, well... kind of creepy. It felt very forced, and at times uncomfortable. Maybe it was the casting? I'm not sure, but I didn't feel any sense of wanting things to work out for them. And the peach - really? Wasn't American Pie enough? I did enjoy the very loving relationship between the parents and their son, and how they supported their child as he figured out his own sexuality. I thought that was a very good message, and yes they were very European in their lifestyle and philosophies, despite being American. Still, I think it was one positive in the film. I was, ultimately, very confused by the whole thing though. I did not think it made much of a point, despite the topic and potential, it just fell flat. And the hero of the film seemed to be nothing more than an opportunistic brat, and I was left not caring about him or his happiness at all. Disappointing.
Homecoming (2018)
The podcast is better
I'm a big Julia Roberts fan, and I very much enjoyed the Homecoming podcast, but this was a miss. I don't mind the casting, and I assumed they'd take some liberties with the storyline or characters, but some of the changes just didn't work for me.
