Blonde (2022)
Exploitative trauma p***
The book they've based this on made up most of the worst parts of this exploitative farce! There is no record she ever had an abortion let alone two! That part alone where the foetus speaks is staged to be anti choice humanising a foetus and dehumanising Marilyn. She had multiple miscarriages and suffered for it. Could her fight for civil rights, her love of reading or business savvy ever be portrayed? No it's always the dumb blonde victim. Yes she was assaulted on more than one occasion but that wasn't her whole life. Marilyn has had enough exploitation of her life and image. Leave her rest now please.
Heartstopper (2022)
Wish I'd had this growing up
Such great bi representation which I don't see enough now let alone growing up. Would've helped me enormously to understand things. It's so uplifting as well, being queer doesn't have to all doom and gloom in entertainment. Yes it's been a struggle for most but we need more things like this to support queer youth and show how normal we all are.
The Wheel of Time (2021)
Obsessed!
If you're into fantasy then this will ticket all the boxes. Keeps you guessing and now I've downloaded the books because I have to know what happens next.
Euphoria (2019)
Intense with a great soundtrack
If you had a tough upbringing or suffered with any sort of mental health issues this will resonate with you. I had very visceral reactions to many of the episodes and though I'm not a huge fan of most of the music used it was perfectly used to Eli ate every scene.
Normal People (2020)
Raw and real
Honestly wasn't prepared for this show. The portray of these characters was so authentic and real I binged the whole thing in one day. It brought up some real feelings for me and I was left really emotional and raw from the experience. It needs to be on your watchlist, a tough watch for some like me but worth it to connect with something very powerful.
Loving (2016)
So much potential...
Such an interesting and historic story which just fell flat. Dialogue was underwhelming and though the director may have been going for low key and humble it just fell flat for me.
El baile de los 41 (2020)
So much potential
So much could've been done to lift this to higher quality. The premise had such potential but let down by the screenplay. The actors did what they could with the dialogue but often fell flat. I somewhat enjoyed it but wouldn't watch again.
Domina (2021)
Thrilling throughout
At the time of me writing this no one who scored below 7 has left a review to explain why they didn't like this. This is a great Ancient Rome politically scheming story but from the POV of a woman striving to survive in a mans world instead of a man fighting for survival at the end of a sword. I was gripped from the first episode and the aesthetics of the series drew me into the world. The characters were complex and layered. I want another series!
Jupiter's Legacy (2021)
Just watch it
I have no idea why there are bad reviews for this I've been hooked since the first episode. It's an interesting look at the superhero genre and what happens when you try to hand over the reigns but the world isn't what it was and the impacts of that on the next generation. Great watch. I binged it when I don't hunger watch most. The tone is half way between marvel and The Boys - just watch it and make up your own mind.
Unbroken (2014)
Could've been awesome
Whilst the concept and the the acting of jack o'Connell were promising (and jack didn't let us down) I think the antagonist was a caricature and overacted so much that it brought me out of the story. The whole film felt cheap and poorly put together which was a shame but shows the director needs more practice. I didn't enjoy this, it didn't pull me
