Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017)
Great fun, great aliens and alien cultures. OK acting.
The number and inventiveness of the alien cultures in this movie is amazing and the visuals are absolutely top notch.
Waterhole #3 (1967)
Great parody
The best parodies are ones that are in the form of what they are parodying. This is one such parody. It is in the form of a spaghetti western (more specifically a Clint Eastwood spaghetti western), and it is a parody of a spaghetti Western. The hero would save the life of a stranger. Superficially, he appears to be a conventional strong silent highly moral hero. But in all matters that are less than life or death he is quite the opposite. Yet he remains appealing. Embedded in this wonderful parody is some of the funniest individual scenes in any movie. Fans of Parody and Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns are the most likely to love this movie.
Á köldum klaka (1995)
A great example of a well crafted low budget film.
Cold Fever uses the diverse cultural and geographical backgrounds of Japan and Iceland to weave an intriguing story. There is nothing daunting or flashy in this movie, just a film that uses every aspect of its unique juxtaposition events locations and cultures to produce a fantastic example of the low budget film genre done to perfection.
Town & Country (2001)
The worst movie that I can remember seeing, ever!
This is the worst movie that I can remember seeing, ever! The long disjointed plot moves along like a drunken sailor. Then just as it appears that some resolution is about to be offered it ends abruptly. It is like a video tape of a really bad murder mystery, but with the tape running out just as the detective gathers the suspects and is about to solve the case. How could such good actors have agreed to be in such an awful film?!
The Matrix (1999)
Excellent, Thoughtful, Philosophically complex.
Young people today, more than ever need to be led to think about the complex philosophical issues that determine (as Socrates stated it) what course of life is best. This movie addresses these issues while clearly alluding to its philosophical predecessors. If all high schools had students read Plato's allegory of the cave, Des Cartes' and Hume's refutations of Solipsism and then saw this movie moral education in this country would be much improved. It is a travesty that so many have dismissed this excellent, thoughtful and philosophically complex movie as meaningless violence.
Schindler's List (1993)
I think that this is the best movie of all time.
I think that this is the best movie of all time. That was my reaction when I saw it. Then I heard some college students talking about how they had never really understood what the holocaust was about until they saw this movie and I knew that I was right.
Never Cry Wolf (1983)
Smart, beautiful scenery, a great family movie.
This movie based on a true story is interesting, funny and beautifully filmed. I very much enjoyed as an adult, and it is perfect for families. Any child old enough to understand that their pet cat might really catch and eat mice is old enough to enjoy this movie. This movie proves that a family movie can be about something and enjoyable to adults without children.
