Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Shadows and Symbols (1998)
The One Where I Completely Checked Out
I had a lot of problems with DS9 already: severe lack of "Trek"-ing, stop-and-start plot that gets annoying real fast, more of a rough start than any other Trek series IMO, and more.
But the spiritual angle this episode takes was the end of DS9 for me. Maybe I'd feel differently had I watched the show before Voyager or Enterprise, but to me, this is the complete antithesis of what Star Trek is.
Star Wars: Go Rogue (2016)
Nice, Dumb Fun
It's very playful with itself and the source material. A couple jokes made me laugh for real, but otherwise it gave me a few chuckles throughout. Impressive stop motion too.
Supernatural: Carry On (2020)
I've seen far worse
Considering this show was supposed to end 10 seasons prior, this is about the best I could have expected. Not great, not terrible. Ultimately, I'm content with how the characters and universe are left.
Nowhere on the level of Game of Thrones or Lost if you ask me.
Blade Runner (1982)
I Tried...
I really, really tried.
I have now watched every version of the film and even created THE definitive fan-edit, yet I still couldn't make the movie more than 'alright'.
Unintentionally goofy at times, horrible editing in terms of pacing (the hardest part for me to correct), shallow script and even more shallow relationship between our leads.
It's far from horrible, but I can't help but feel resentful at the 'legendary' status the film has received.
If you want an 8/10 Sci-Fi experience in my book, go watch Planet of the Apes '68.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993)
To Boldy Stay in Place
The characters are great, as expected from Star Trek, but the overarching plot takes too long to build up, the one-off episodes are even more unwanted because they grind the pace to a halt, and the twist near the end of the show straight-up betrays what Star Trek is about IMO. Certainly not a bad show, but very disappointing for me.
I hate to sound like I'm gatekeeping, but I understand why this is considered the peak of Star Trek (likely by non/new fans): people didn't want more "Trek"-ing.
