Mortal Kombat (2021)
Not sure what people expected?
Loved the games and the storyline from the games when I was a teenager/young adult.... That was many, many years ago. The original movie still has a special place in my heart, but even that movie had it's flaws, was cheesy, and felt low budget. The newest adaption of the Mortal Kombat movie is a step above the original, especially special effects wise and with the freedom of an R rating. Not sure what people really expect, it is a movie based on a video game and it hits the mark for that kind of movie. Could it have been better? Yep, but it is still cool to have as a fan of the whole storyline. Hope that they do make the full trilogy, I will watch them all for sure.
Malignant (2021)
Kind of worth watching, but I wouldn't pay to see it.
If you are into campy horror movies that make you laugh, it probably is worth the watch. I had the whole thing figured out very early in the movie, so expect predictability. Outside of some of the gore, the special effects weren't great. Also don't expect any Oscar winning type acting, but for a movie like this, you shouldn't have those expectations anyway. I probably would have been upset if I actually paid for this movie, but I already have HBOMax, so it is what it is. I can see why some people would love this movie, and I can see why some people hate it...I think most people would be somewhere in-between on it like I am.
Valley Girl (2020)
The destruction of a cult classic...
I actually made an IMBD account just to review this movie. Honestly I couldn't make it more than 10 to 15 minutes into it, it was that bad. If I could give it zero stars, I would.
I am such a huge fan of the original, a true cult classic with an outstanding soundtrack. (The live venue scenes featuring The Plimsouls were tremendous.) The original captured what the 80's were like for so many of us, and yes, I was a teenage punk during that era. The remake loses all the realness and grittiness of the original.
Maybe it is a generational thing, but why does every remake have to be a f'n made for Disney type movie. Why does everything have to become so CUTE? Why does everything have to become just another teen musical?
Do yourself a favor and skip the remake and watch the original.
