What If...?: What If... Kahhori Reshaped the World? (2023)
Good but unrelated
This would have been amazing as a one off somewhere in between other shows. There's a lot of potential, but there's just no backstory or any way for us to connect with a character and story this far along with nothing.
Granted, I'm not into the comic books, but I'm a big fan of the MCU and comic book movies in general, and other than the idea of the tesseract, there's nothing I know about it.
Yea, I'll probably look some characters and details up now, but that's just out of spite and ADHD.
I'd like to see more of this story, but not in the middle of what should realistically be more of a comfort show, especially when it's released at this time of year. Maybe that's just me though.
So, the art was beautiful, the story was intriguing, and I'd like to see more, but I wish it wasn't in this anthology.
New Amsterdam: Same as It Ever Was (2021)
Lacking basic critical thinking
New Amsterdam is still a good show, contrary to what many reviews will lead you to believe. It's not supposed to be something groundbreaking, but it is absolutely one of the better medical themed shows (and as a personal thing, I prefer medical shows to cop shows any day of the week).
But the absolute lack of knowledge and critical thinking that was involved is mind-blowing.
(I'm writing this review at about 2/3rds through the episode but I was incredibly frustrated)
-The student had ripped up the cheque, which means she did not accept her winning, therefore there are no rights to the pharmaco
-suing a minor is useless as she can instantly declare bankruptcy and have it completely disappear (unless recent rules have changed)
- capitalism is a cancer.
The Rookie: Long Shot (2022)
Worse than the interview episodes
I like Flula Borg in most of his little cameos, but this episode kind of left a bad taste in my mouth over all his other work
The regulars do as good of a job as possible with the absolutely ridiculously convoluted premise.
I genuinely don't know how to put out the rest of the characters needed for this review, so I'm gonna rant about a character.
Nolan's old landlord/roommate is a hilarious actor that should be checked out in many of his appearances. The rat detective was badass in sons of anarchy. Bradford is usually a twat and I always thought of him as such but he's probably my favorite character in the whole show.
Loki: Ouroboros (2023)
One of the things Marvel does well
One thing the MCU has never faltered in is casting. I don't think there's been a single notable character that was badly cast or didn't fit the vibe. And Tom Hiddleston proves it on so many levels in this first episode. And the supporting cast measures up on each of those; no scene is boring, and I'm instantly invested in the story all over even though I haven't watched the first season since it came out. I still believe the MCU can make a comeback, if they allow the writers, actors, and directors to create something meaningful instead of just furthering some insanely convoluted story.
Can't wait to see more.
Loki: The Nexus Event (2021)
Best Marvel Show
This is by far the best Marvel Show, and dare I say one of the best things they've ever produced. The sheer complexity and the dynamics of the characters are incredible
I had some doubts as to how this would turn out, but this has been the greatest surprise I've ever seen in the entire cinematic universe.
