Maybe I Do (2023)
wanted to really like it
The problem with this movie, in my opinion, is that it would have worked better as a stage show than as an on screen film. The small cast, imaginative plot, and creative blocking would make for a fantastic production as a play.
Having said that, not every movie has to be the most original, and unique tale ever told in order for it to be worthwhile. This entertaining movie has a superb ensemble and a simple, but creative plot. (It was particularly fun to see Susan Sarandon and Richard Gere back on screen again).
Overall, I wouldn't rush out to watch it, but it's worth streaming on some afternoon if you're looking for something fun.
Adult Beginners (2014)
It's fine
This movie has an all star cast and some feel good moments, but ultimately leaves much to be desired.
It feels very similar to "Our Idiot Brother" which came out a few years before, but with less satisfying punches.
Can't Cope, Won't Cope (2016)
Loved it?!
This show is oddly comforting. It's definitely a not-so-dramatic caricature of living through our your 20's and 30's in today's era. Perhaps watching it during a particularly chaotic period in my life, made me feel even more connected, but I think most young people could see themselves in this.
This was essentially a mini-series. Similar to some millennial girlfriends shows, but definitely more real. It's great television, fun introduction into some Irish slang, and easy watching after a rough day. Seana Kerslake and the late Nika McGuigan were a delight.
If you enjoyed Dollface, Incredible Jessica James, Someone Great, etc. you might really enjoy this as well.
A Family Man (2016)
Formulaic - not bad but nothing special
I never got around to seeing this movie. I'm seeing it now and it's- eh.
Some of the more emotional parts of the script seem a little forced, despite the great acting. I think the written dialogue is a bit old for the age of the children, kids don't speak that way.
Definitely, not a wasted 105 minutes, but not the best you'll ever spend.
5 Flights Up (2014)
5 Flights Up...
If you've read the book "Heroic Measures" by Jill Ciment it's not just the storyline from sweet Dachshund Dorothy's point of view that will be missed. Unfortunately, so much of the tension and casual story telling is lost in the movie.
The book reads more like a play. The characters are caricatures, the acts are simple and the resolution is unremarkable, but satisfying. The movie doesn't quit capture the quiet emotions of the book.
It's not a bad watch, Diane Keaton and Morgan Freeman are great, but it leaves you a bit underwhelmed- if not slightly confused.
