ExcellentE! Just excellent? Very good!
3 February 2006
I'm probably the first one from Serbia (the land of Free and of opportunity) to watch this movie. When I was downloading it, I didn't know that it already has some kind of cult status in the USA. Actually, I didn't know what I'm downloading at all, because at that time there was no information about it at IMDb. I just had some free 400 MB and I picked this one to download from some site about short movies. And I'm very glad I've done so..

Like the last comment says - this movie is done with heart. But there's a brain too. Original idea very intelligently filmed. And I also liked the selection of music.

One word Summary - Great!
14 February 2004
Lars von Trier already was one of my favorite directors, so I've expected only the best form him, but I didn't have such a high opinion about Nicole Kidman and when I've heard that she's playing the main role I thought that Lars has finally sold himself to Hollywood. But Nicole was GREAT too (I've almost fell in love with her) and even though it has Hollywood ending (and the best Hollywood actress - now I'm sure of it), it's everything but a Hollywood movie.

So it's 10 out of 10!

Surprisingly good, but it could have been better.
29 January 2004
This is 'a story in a story movie'. A woman is telling a story from a few years ago to a policeman because her son is kidnapped. And that part of the movie - her story - is great. With 'crazy house' that she moved in, weird neighbours strange situations. I think that the movie would've been better if it had ended with that, without 'the present story'. I really don't see a reason for that kidnapping part. Maybe to extend the lenght of the movie (only 75 minutes), but that just lowered my opinion about this movie. So it's 8, but could have been 9 or even 10 (if it was 60 minutes:-)

Gwyneth!
20 January 2002
It's all about GWYNETH here. After this movie I'll have to watch her other movies once again, 'cause I haven't been really impressed by her before. But in this one she's simply IRRESISTIBLE.

Others in the movie were OK too, so that makes movie OK too. I gave it a good 9, but it would have been a 7 if Gwyneth weren't in it.

Better than 'Peacemaker' or 'Welcome to Sarajevo'
11 January 2002
As a Serb it was very interesting for me to watch this movie. And it's not so bad movie, even though we're shown as 'the bad guys' once again. The biggest fault was selection of the actors, because most of the actors that play Serbs are Russians and Slovaks, so their Serbian was a littlebit funny. Like if Swedish played Englishman.

Dragoslav Lazic?! Oh, no!
7 January 2002
It looks like Dragoslav is peasant in his heart so he must make peasant movies. And there is no need to watch any of them like there is no need to watch this one. The only thing that is always different and new in each of his movies is a new, young actress found by Dragoslav to show some teats and ass. Everything else is the same, boring and stupid.

Another stupid movie...
15 December 2001
I don't want to sound like I don't like our Yugoslav movies. No, I think that our good movies are best movies in the world, but our bad movies are worst of all.

And this one is very very bad.

The makers of this movie tried to banalize political situation in the country at the beginning of 90's and show it in a funny way. So, while tanks are in the streets of Belgrade they tried to make people laugh by really stupid jokes and stories.

Actors and actresses in the movie are known for acting in that kind of movies, but I can't say that they are bad. I was only surprised when I saw Bogdan Diklic in this movie. Why, Bogdan, why?

Stole Popov + Meto Jovanovski = Great movie
14 December 2001
What happens to an innocent man in Yugoslavia, who is imprisoned by accident in the time of dying communism?

Great roles of main protagonists make this movie intense and exciting from the beginning till the end.

This movie has got the most part of the prizes in all film festivals in Yugoslavia and was Yugoslav candidate for American Oscar.

Stole Popov made a hell of a movie!

Boring...
5 December 2001
I don't know, maybe it's artistic work, but to me it was boring. Watching other Radivojevic's movies I've noticed that he likes long and speechless scenes, but in this one he overdid with that. So, like I said - boring...

A great work of Lordan Zafranovic!
27 November 2001
The plot is situated in Dubrovnik and I get the impression that Zafranovic wanted to show how nice, beautiful and nonchalant life was before the war by making it to look like it is in renaissance. Three friends (a Croat, an Italian and a Jew) are having the time of their lives, singing, laughing, and having fun and girls. Then the war breaks and their friendship is eclipsed by their nationalities and religions. Instead of songs and laugh there are scenes of violence and killings. And the way in which Zafranovic has shown all that hatred between Croats and Serbs, Nazis and Jews is superb and frightening at the same time. I must mention one more scene that amazed me. It is the scene of striptease in the whorehouse. Maybe that's because of Tanja Boskovic, who is, in my humble opinion, the sexiest Serbian actress ever, but the camera work with cruising along the room and shooting it all at once with sliding back and out of the room with Tanja naked and the statue in front in the same pose is magnificent.

The worst Serbian film ever!
8 September 2001
For some kind of reason Isidora Bjelica is recognized as an artist around here. I haven't read her books but if they are half stupid as this movie is, they are too stupid to be read. I feel sorry for us…

It looks like Radomir Belacevic wasn't right when he said that not every dunderhead could make a movie. Isidora made one.

The all beauties of Monica Bellucci...
30 August 2001
I wasn't impressed by the movie as much as by Monica. I'm not saying that she had a great role, but it is certainly a role to remember. She did a lot of walking, showing of her breasts and the rest of her great body and kissing a 12-year-old boy.

On the other side, that 12-year-old boy, Giuseppe Sulfaro, had a hell of a debut. I surely envied him and I think that even Haley Joel Osment did.

I must say that the vengeance of the town women with beating Malena and cutting of her hair remind me of "Ryan's Daughter".

And all in all, it is not a fabulous movie, there's nothing so big or new in it, but it is worth of watching. If not because of anything else then because of Monica.

Absolutely fantastic!
29 August 2001
This is a fantastic movie about extraordinary man, Radomir Belacevic, a literate and scientist, and about him making his movie "The Waitress".

There's not a single professional actor in the movie. The characters are real people from the real life, which will make you smile and laugh until you start crying. The movie can be a little bit less interesting for the people who don't speak Serbian language, but that's the characteristic of almost all Serbian movies, or at least, the good ones and this one is more than good.

It really deserves "all the first prizes and Kusturicas" as Mr. Dabovic said.

Le Fabuleux film de Jean-Pierre Jeunet
28 August 2001
Maybe I'm still under the impression but I think that I've just seen one of the best "love story" movies ever made.

The movie is done in Jeunet's great and original way. It has fabulous story, which is narrated perfectly, great direction and acting. It is a UNIQUE MOVIE and certainly goes in my BEST 100 and I have (I'm not bragging, but) more than 3000 to choose from.

It seems to me that the film made the same effect and on the others in the cinema as it did on me. We can't be proud of our "culture of watching the movies", here in Serbia, so it's really rare if people don't start jumping from the chairs and going to exit as soon as we see "the end" (or "finé" as in this case) on the screen. But this time we have all waited till the end of the credits for the movie with soft smiles on our faces and then slowly left the cinema, more than pleased.

Fine little movie!
20 August 2001
This is a good example how to make a decent movie with a few bucks ($).

The story is simple, but interesting. It's mosaic in interesting way and the acting is engaging because there are only three or four professional actors in the movie.

So it's really nice little movie!

I liked it very much
20 August 2001
This is the first entirely Ristovski's film. He wrote it, directed it and played the main role. He had once again affirmed himself as a great actor and he was surprisingly good as a writer. He wrote nice story in a great way. I liked the most his monologues that were in fact the thoughts of the main character Savo. And with a good cast that he made it had to be a great movie and really - it is!

The stupidest as it can gets!
20 August 2001
Catastrophe!

There are plenty of movies like this one, made during the 80's, in Yugoslav cinematography, but this one I have just seen again so I had to write how awful it is.

I don't know what were our famous actors that took part in it thinking of... They needed money so bad???

One of the 80's stupid comedies!
20 August 2001
During the 80's Yugoslav cinematography was overfilled with stupid comedies like this one.

The only good thing about this movie is that we get to see Tanja Boskovic naked plenty of time.

So, it's 10 for Tanja and 0 for the movie.

This is so fantastic movie that I had to write a few words about it...
14 August 2001
In my opinion, "Vec vidjeno" is the best movie of Goran Markovic (and all of them are great), one of the best Serbian directors.

It's done in cognizable Markovic's way. The story is great (it is by Markovic, also), acting of Mustafa Nadarevic is superb, Zoran Smijanovic's music is excellent as everything else in this movie.

It is a horror movie, which is not a typical Yugoslav genre, [besides "Davitelj protiv davitelja" (which is more like comedy) and "Leptirica" I can't think of another], but it is done in a way that Hitchcock would envy.

If any film deserves the Oscar then this is the one!

Real entertainment movie!
14 August 2001
This was my favorite movie when I was a kid. And it is still one of my favorites. There are numerous reasons for that but the main is that I'm having a great fun and great laugh every time I see it. When I'm talking about this movie I'm thinking of all 3 parts of the series 'cause they are a whole to me. We really have to give credits Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale for their writings. Everything is related from the first event in the first movie to the last one in the 3rd part, and there are some new connections that I detect each time I see the movie.

The credits should also go to Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd for their acting. They really made Marty McFly and Doc alive. There's no doubt that those are the best roles in theirs careers. The others are good too and all in all we have three great movies.

It would be nice if they would try to extend it to four and let us see where are Marty and Doc after 15 years. Not a bad idea, ha?

Great!
14 August 2001
This is a real masterpiece of the seventh art.

I remember that I was very little when I first saw this movie. It must be good when it makes a 7-year-old boy to sit still and quiet for about 5 hours. When I saw it again 4-5 years ago I wanted to see it again and again and again...

There are so many scenes that stay in your head forever. The dark ones are more impressive then the brighter ones: slaughtering of the pig, raping of the child, bumping his head against the wall, epilepsy attack... That's done in such way that... I don't know, leaves you "textless".

There's no need to mention the acting. Just look at the cast... I was especially overjoyed with Donald Sutherland in his role of Attila and with the actress, which played his wife (I don't know her name but she reminds me on former USA secretary M. Albright - I hope the spelling is good).

This is one of the best movies of XX century and I'm surprised that it is not in top 250. Maybe that's because it's Italian, not American.

Nobody's Fool (1994)

I liked it...
13 August 2001
I like this kind of American movies, about ordinary people, usually in the small town, somewhere in the USA. Movies like A Day to Remember (or Two Bits), The Ice Storm, Wonder Boys, The Search for One-eye Jimmy...

Nobody's Fool is exactly that kind of movie, and it's really great one.

There's nothing spectacular in its story. I mean, there's no some big twist or unexpected act in it, but you'll be interested from the first scene to the last one.

Dialogues are great! Not like in Tarantino's movies, where people speak all the time (which is great too, but in a different way). There's not a single sentence in this movie that's not in its place.

The acting is superb! Paul Newman is magnificent! I've seen a lot of his movies and I think this is the crown of his career. Jessica Tandy is great, Bruce Willis too, and all the others as well. I think that this is the first time that I haven't been annoyed by Melanie Griffith's role. I even liked her.

And, at the end, I have nothing else to say but - see the movie if you haven't seen it yet!

not as good movie as I've expected it to be
20 June 2001
I was surprised when I saw a familiar name - Mirjana Jokovic on the tape cover of the American movie in my local video store. (I must say that she's one of the best serbian actresses). First, I suppose that it must be some good drama or comedy, but it was an action movie and it wasn't special in any way. There was a lot of blood, killings, fights, explosions in it and, of course, a fabulous blond played by Natasha Henstridge. (What kind of movie would it be if there wasn't at least one beautiful blond in it?!) Mirjana played another girl in the movie, called Jelisaveta, and she had a few lines in Serbian language. It wasn't a big role (but I guess the money was good, 'couse I can't think of any other reason for her to participate in movie like this one). You can say that the story is a littlebit uncommon (there's some mix up about who's Harry), but it's adding up to a well-known story of one INDESTRUCTIBLE man against everyone: the Mafia, police, FBI. And, of course, he must have some cool phrase, like "I'll be back" or "Noone's nervous" to follow him along the movie, and this movie is full of it. And there's no need to mention illogical and ridiculous actions and plots. The end of the movie seems to be further and further away as we're coming to it, and even the writer seems to be out of idea so we can see our hero saving himself from the burning building two times in the same way. So, while I'm thinking once again about this movie I'm coming to the conclusion that it's much more worse than "not so good movie as I've expected it to be", but maybe I have expected too much.
