Barnaby Jones: The Killin' Cousin (1980)
Not again.
Another crummy spinoff attempt. There's no bigger than a B Jones fan than me, but even I couldn't handle the week storyline, and the lousy plot line. These "spinoff attempts" get tiring after a while, for it is obvious within the first five minutes that none of them have the magic that made winning TV shows succeed.
And it shows a lot of lazy writing that every storyline has to revolve around a friend, relative, or accidental acquaintance of Betty or JR. Seven seasons of the show and Barnabee is constantly "testifying in court" during the final season, instead of out solving crimes in his signature, and very entertaining, style.
Worth watching simply because it is the final episode. But very disappointing.
Barnaby Jones: The Final Victim (1980)
Spinoff #4?
Obviously yet another attempt at a one episode introduction and spin off opportunity. It is so obvious that the producers were trying to capitalize on the success of this show to think that they could pre-package a silly ensemble show Involving an
"investigative reporter", sassy gal Friday, rookie cop making a name for himself, etc etc. Cornball at its finest. The hooker trying to blackmail the judge is the same actress that played the amusement park arcade girl that Greg Brady fell in love with in the Midwest amusement park episode of the Brady Bunch. All in all, it definitely reeks of "final season" laziness.
