X2 (2003)
Re-watching this in 2024!
I decided to rewatch all the X-Men movies and Deadpool movies before the release of Deadpool 3. Pyro in this movie is in Deadpool 3 so seemed like a good idea and I gotta say after rewatching this movie in 2024, 21 years after it came out, I am still blown away by how good this movie was. This movie straight up looks better than almost every marvel movie that comes out these days. Everything is CGI garbage these days whereas X2 actually looks like a film that was made by people who gave a damn. The story, while nothing too complex or groundbreaking, is great and very entertaining and interesting. I also think the first X-Men from 2000, apart from some dated effects is also still a great film but X2 blows the first movie out of the water. X2 is still one of the best marvel films ever made to this day 21 years later. If this movie was ever gonna be dated it would have happened by now. It's a damn shame Brett Ratner had to ruin X-Men 3, what a disappointment that movie was after how awesome X2 was.
Atlanta (2016)
Masterful in all honesty
I'm mostly really picky with what shows I watch but I fell in love with Atlanta almost right away. This show is so effing funny, weird and unique to the point where I can say there isn't anything else out there that's quite like it. You would think it's just some simple show about a famous up and coming rapper and his manager but this show isn't really about that most of the time, it's more about the adventures they embark on and the bizarre characters they meet along the way. The world of Atlanta in this show almost feels like a fantasy show or like some alternate reality in some way and I absolutely love it. I think Donald Glover is an absolute genius in all honestly and Atlanta is his masterpiece. I also love that they had a plan with this show and ended it when it needed to end instead of extending the show just because of it's popularity. Atlanta is one of My all time favorite shows and I'd recommend it to anyone, even though i feel the surreal nature of the show might not be for everyone but it definitely was for me.
Dune (2021)
It's an overrated film imo!
There is quite a bit to like about Denis Villeneuve's take on Dune. First off the movie is absolutely stunning to look at but it's going to look good anyway with Greig Fraser as your DP but for me personally, apart from some pretty visuals and a sometimes interesting story, this film felt pretty hollow to me. I tried pretty hard actually to get myself invested in the story and characters but I found myself only being like half interested and not fully invested. I've never read Frank Herbert's Dune but I think the Paul Atreides character, in this movie anyway is quite a boring protagonist and I don't think Timothy Chalamet was the right casting for this movie, I feel he was only casted because he's quite a big name these days and not because he was the right actor for the role. This movie is almost 3 hours long and for the most part I feel that nothing significant really happens until maybe the 3rd act of the movie when it's almost over. Hopefully part 2 is a lot better than this because part 1, for the most part is quite the slog fest in my opinion. I think Denis is great, I love his Blade Runner 2049 movie but Dune Part 1 is missing something for me. Hopefully part 2 will clear out a lot of the problems I had with this movie.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2024)
Definitely worth your time
I just finished it and i gotta say that this show is banging, there ain't one bad episode in my opinion. Some are worse than others, the double date episode wasn't amazing but still decent to watch though. The ending, without spoiling anything might piss off a lot of people. I still don't know what to make of the ending really which is why this gets a 9 and not a perfect 10 but it's probably the most realistic end to this show if I'm being honest. Overall the TV show adaptation of Mr and Mrs Smith was very surprisingly great and Donald Glover can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned. It's very well written, gorgeously photographed and there ain't one bad performance. If you like spy movies with a bit of romance but not too much romance (in my opinion) then this is the show for you.
Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI (1986)
Just a fun slasher that surprisingly actually has some brains behind it!
Now I have a confession to make, I dont like these movies, for the most part I think they kinda suck. I love Slasher movies but The Friday The 13th franchise I have never been much of a fan of. The original film isn't even all that good to be honest and just feels like a poor imitation of John Carpenter's Halloween which is a far better movie. Jason Lives, the sixth entry in the franchise is a surprisingly good film, I got no idea how it took them 6 movies for them to finally make a good one but they did and it's a blast.
I love this one because it doesn't try to be a serious slasher like the original and some of the sequels did. They knew this franchise was trash when they made this movie and just went for it and made the most entertaining Jason movie you can watch. This is the film to watch around Halloween time or on any upcoming Friday the 13th's lol.
The Last of Us: Part I (2022)
I didn't think you can improve upon perfection but I was wrong.
Ok so this is interesting because I was very hesitant towards the idea of a remake of The Last Of Us. The original game only came out in 2013. Less than 10 years ago so it just seemed unnecessary to me. When the game released I was shocked to see the reception to it was actually quite good so I decided to try it for myself and honestly I am not disappointed, this game looks and plays phenomenally. I can't get over big of a graphical overhaul this game was it looks absolutely gorgeous, it is easily one of the best looking games I've played and the gameplay is quite a bit smoother than it was in the original. The enemy AI is also greatly improved and adds a bit more of an extra challenge to the game. Overall I'm very impressed with this and for me personally as such a big fan of the original game, it is definitely worth £70.
Resident Evil Village (2021)
RE Village is awesome!
I really like Resident Evil Village and think it is a slight improvement over RE7. Sure this isn't as much of a straight up horror game like 7 was but the gameplay in Village is so good, very smooth and just a lot more fun to play than 7 was imo. 7 was great too but i think village took what that game did and expanded on everything and just made it a lot better. The best game of 2021.
The Boys: Herogasm (2022)
Best episode ever!
That's all I have to say. If you love this show you will love this episode. Season 3 has turned out to be the best season yet of The Boys and I'm glad a fourth season has been announced. It's one of the rare comic book adaptations that is way better than the source material.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
BVS UE is damn good!
The Extended Cut kicks ass, if any of you have a 4k player I highly recommend the latest 4k of this that they brought out, it looks absolutely incredible and the Imax shots are gorgeous. If you were one of those people who saw bvs in theatres when it came out and didn't like it/never revisited it, now is the perfect time to. It is a much better movie than the theatrical cut and it feels like a complete movie. If only we got this in theatres instead.
