Reviviendo la Navidad (2022)
Well, the title of this movie really lived up to its name.. it's a not so merry Christmas after watching this
Why do I feel very attacked whenever they "villainize" Chuy/Jose Padilla (the protagonist)???
Of course he will be grumpy. On top of him only getting one gift every year (vs others getting one birthday gift and one Christmas gift) and people forgetting it's his birthday too, it appears that he is the one doing all the chores despite it being his special day. And to top it all off, it would appear that he buys everyone gifts too.
About the curse: why does his life get fast forwarded into his next birthday?! Except for the protagonist, everyone gets a memory of what Chuy has done from the last 364 days since his last birthday. If you put yourself into his shoes, would you be able to change your mistake if you are not even aware that it was a mistake to start with? Ironically, one of the plot lines talked about empathy and it would appear that the writer/s don't understand empathy that much - they can't empathize what their protagonist was going through.
Black Mirror: USS Callister (2017)
Flawed Storyline
I am surprised to see that a lot has liked this episode.
I've checked the comments and someone has summarized my thoughts completely. But, just to assert:
Are we supposed to believe or assume that Technology is so advanced that you can pickup memories and/or sentience from DNA? DNA is for genetic makeup and not memory.
Are we supposed to root for characters who are a**holes to Daly in real life? I mean seriously, even the intern was treating Daly like he's a nobody in the office. Whatever he's doing to those digital "clones", it does not impact their human counterparts, in any way. At best, this was just creepy, nothing beyond that.
Though I would say, it's a nice effort for the writers but as far as storytelling ability goes, this can be improved to make the story miles stronger.
Drag Race Philippines: Twinning! (2022)
Questionable Decisions
I don't know where to start, all I feel is disappointment from their judging scripts!!!
Blatant favoritism to Minty was sooo clear and palpable. Despite Marina's makeover was more decent, they criticized her for that. While the obvious atrocious makeup that Minty did to her sister was praised?!?!?!? Minty's sister was not ugly. But the way she styled her, unforgivable.
Also, clearly Brigiding was doing good in the lip-sync; but because they favored Minty more, they were more "shocked" when she pulled out LGBTQ flag from her butt than when Brigiding changed outfits.
WAKE UP PRODUCERS! There might not be a season 2 anytime soon. Looks like the judging panel needs an overhaul.
The Turning (2020)
Confusing Plot That Went Nowhere, Difficult to Watch Because it was dark almost the entire time. Worst of all, it ended abruptly.
Was there a screenwriter for this movie?
The story was so scattered.
First, it was shown that Kate's mom was in a mental institution. I don't understand how showing her condition contributed to the story.
Next, the kids were obviously creepy. However, I was shocked to see that the movie was at the climax and yet, no explanation why the strange behavior: Was Flora a ghost? Was Miles possessed?
Then, Mrs. Grose's attitude was a bit unclear. Why was she behaving that way and saying things like she "made sure Quint was dead"?
So, it was mentioned in the synopsis that the kids were orphaned. Who's paying Kate's wages? Where were the other characters: the cook and the gardener?
Lastly, second half of the movie, there were no plot development and it stayed in the poor state of providing jump scares that were predictable almost all of the time. AND everything was either pitch black or dark, even if there was a jump scare, I was not scared at all because I CANNOT SEE ANYTHING!
Ang babae sa septic tank (2011)
I Fell Asleep Watching Some Parts
Okay, maybe it was because we were from a long trip coming from our team building activity so, I can't entirely blame the movie. 😅
Eugene Domingo is a great actress no doubt about it. I love her comedic style through and through.
I guess the parts that really hit my snooze button was the scene where they played the same scene for 5 times as I can remember. Coupled with the tiredness of my body, I honestly can say that it sustained my interest.
And the whole gag of the plot was...she fell in the septic tank which is the title of the movie!
Crawlspace (2016)
Promising Start But..
The movie had a great start. It has a lot of the elements that I was missing from other more recent movies I've watched. Sadly, they were never really able to sustain the story towards the end.
A lot of the critics have already pointed out the same flaws that I observed.
Secret Obsession (2019)
A Showcase of Different Facets of Obsessions
What I like:
I don't know if this is because I'm in graduate school and most of our work are focused on research and reporting, but this movie seemed to be a video essay to showcase different scenarios of obsessions:
> Detective was obsessed on cases that are hinted to have a similar nature of his daughter's disappearance.
> "Russell" the clear villain. Obsessed with his crush.
> Jennifer was obsessed with knowing her past and, apparently, lock picking/hacking into a laptop.
> The guy in the leather jacket whom "Russell" killed, he's the character that the critics will be obsessed in finding out through the critics reviews.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:
The trailer basically gave away the whole story. It was give or take 80% of the whole movie LOL. There's really no other real twist in the story other than the supposed "husband" being the perpetrator (which was very obvious).
No discussions or explanation what happened to the bodies or if they found the bodies in "Russell"s house leaving it open for interpretation. Also, why would Jennifer trust the detective that easily? She isn't aware who he is. All she knew is, he's the only other person she saw other than "Russell".
Fantasy Island (2020)
A Decent Thriller for Young Teens... Brings back those classic plot twists
I guess this movie is really directed and created to appeal with young teens. The plot was refreshingly unexpected. The movie vibe feels like those movies you watched as a teen.
I honestly don't have much complaints about the storyline. Just those parts where you can be with someone who's already dead vs. Those who'd want to relive a moment. And let's not forget, why are the other persons involved in other's fantasies are "created" by the island while one character's fantasy has a real person kidnapped for it. BUT we now know that the reason behind that is because it's part of the plot twist of the story.
Also, if you like getting vacations for free or from a raffle, you might want to skip this movie, unless you're ready to end up with anxiety of going to a vacation from a raffle after watching the movie. 😜
Awake (2021)
My Take on this Movie - If you want to waste 1.5 hours, go ahead!LOL
Let me start with the actors.. were they not allowed to say anything to the writers/directors? Acting skills appeared to be too calculated. For me, I had high hopes for Gina Rodriguez because of what I've heard about her series and other movies but all I got were emotions on command and not necessarily anchoring one situation to the next one. I.e. The scene where she and her son where initially handcuffed in a room, she never said anything to check on him or to console him. The only time she reacted was when he was taken by a soldier.
The writers could have done a better job doing research about sleep deprivation, how it works, how long does it take to reach to a level of mania, and do sleep deprived people really behave like they're about to go out of breath?
Everything happened so fast too quickly and at the same time, so many things are happening so quickly. I understand that we're trying to evoke mania, anarchy, etc. And you can achieve that without making the overall arrangements of scenes chaotic too.
After the supposed "solar flare" and all electronics and machines died, people started having consciousness of what's happening from the get go without a briefer.. so, you guys just knew that everyone is not falling asleep and that you have to do something the next morning? Even those who are not in the medical field?
Meh.
Crazy Rich Asians (2018)
Fairly an okay movie (This movie is a book adaptation FYI)
The movie lived up to its book counterpart plus minus the typical movie adaptation adjustments. The story typically follows the damsel in distress story arc. The purpose of the book was to introduce contemporary Asians to North American readers or audience so I guess it worked in that sense.
I'm really in disbelief how other commentators were saying that it was whitewashed, etc.
Back to the Future (1985)
Classic Futuristic Movie
I really like rewatching this. I find it amusing how they pictured us living in today's time. Characters are very believable. There would be some moments though that you'd overthink things and make you wonder the what ifs especially with a time machine. :)
The Good Place (2016)
I Recommend this series!
Really really good plot. Though I questioned some scenarios, I just played along with the whole mash up of stuff. The characters are also relatable and cast seem to be right.
Kadaver (2020)
I had to recover my password just to tell you how this movie is a waste of time
Predictable predictable predictable!
Protagonists have very bland personalities.
Like hello, you don't want to lose your daughter or husband? How about hold each other's hands while exploring? Being survivors of a post apocalyptic situation, I expected more survival mindset from them.
I just kept cursing and begging them to kill all the protagonists already.
The setting of the movie wasn't explained either. Was the situation just in their state? If it was, why didn't they migrate? (Not sure if it was because of the language barrier and the failed attempt to translate to English)
I watched this movie because I was intrigued by the mask and the colors from posters. So sad they didn't live up to the expectations.
Don't waste your time with this movie.
Banal (2019)
Cringed the entire time
Not sure if they're trying to fit the movie with western acting but it was a car crash. Actors and actresses delivering their lines horribly. And I'm not sure at which part exactly did Thea mentioned that she was the one who wanted them to go home already. From the beginning, they've been forcing the group not to back out - "wala nang atrasan ha!".
The only scary part of the movie is watching the characters deliver their lines.
The Strangers: Prey at Night (2018)
The Most Unnatural Acting I've Seen
Goes against every instinctive reactions.
1. Takes a stroll around an eerie place despite not seeing anyone in the neighborhood. And leaves all their means of communication behind (WTF?!)
2. Goes inside someone's house because the doors are open. Then, first instinct after trespassing is to look for booze.
3. There's a two versus one opportunity for the mother and daughter to kill the intruder, opts to go hiding instead.
4. Mom does nothing to try and stop the killer. She just didn't care to turn around and try to defend herself.
5. Another two versus five opportunity for father and son. Instead of shooting, he just warns the killer first so that it'll have a chance to run.
6. Had a clear shot at the enemy, kept on using the knife instead (vs the axe).
Seriously, who acts like this upon transferring to a new place? And would you even transfer at night and immediately just stroll around while not even familiar with the neighborhood yet? Also, someone kept on knocking on your door looking for someone else.. RED FLAG! And your aunt or uncle haven't welcomed you when you transferred?? Really???
Please enhance your writing skills. And the daughter? What a cringeworthy acting. I was cringing the entire time listening on how she reacts and delivers her lines! Hello....?
Don't waste your time on this movie, really.
Sunod (2019)
Story was quite Intriguing
While some aspects of the movie were amateurish (It's an indie film, give it a chance), I have to say the red thread symbolism and/or its origin intrigued me the most. This will be the first time for me to hear about this hence gives a fresh flavor of horror films to the Philippine cinema.
House at the End of the Street (2012)
Thriller that lacks Common Sense
A lot of scene lacking character development and thought. Why were the kids hating on Ryan?
If Carrie Ann died, who was the initial girl locked down in the basement who tries to kill everyone except Ryan? Was the scene where Elissa was playing a song on her guitar an essential scene?
Police enters a house where an abduction happened AND DIDN'T BOTHER TO RADIO HIS STATION of his whereabouts.
When Ryan got beat up and ran to the forest, Elissa decides to drive his car instead and directly drive to his house.
Elissa was able to get inside Ryan's house and starts to become nosy and "explores" the house instead of waiting outside or goes to her house.
When Elissa found out about Carrie Ann and went through the trash again, she instead waited for Ryan to pop up and returned the wallet to him (Wow, now you have manners to return a wallet you know doesn't belong to the guy but you haven't thought about not going inside since IT'S NOT YOUR HOUSE).
