Ciro norte (1998)
Surreal, good looking short
Axel Jodorowsky, son of the legendary Alejandro Jodorowsky, plays a scientist which makes a machine to do something with his mind. At first it looks to fail, but a few seconds later you're thinking that there might have been heavy drugs in your drink.. It's confusing, surreal, abstract, and looks great. It looks like a picture you made as a child of pictures out of the newspaper. None of the effects have been done with a computer, and that's the charm of it..
This is a movie that you really love or hate.. You can't just 'like' it.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
Simply the best movie I've seen
*warning possible spoilers ahead*
When I went to Lord of the Rings on opening night, I was thinking 'maybe this movie isn't that great', since I didn't like the casting of Liv Tyler as Arwen (I had no problem with Arwen's expanded role though) and some other minor things. But after I had seen the first hour, I knew that this IS the greatest movie ever made. The special effects are superb (though the cavetroll still looks like CGI), and I was impressed by Gollum.. He totally doesn't look like CGI, it seemed he was made out of clay. I had imagined the Balrog different, he looks great in the movie but.. he doesn't look like he's the powerful, ancient creature that he is. I also had a complaint about the running time of the movie.. It's too short. Many things are just skipped, or are too short. Maybe New Line should have taken a bigger risk and make 5 or 6 movies instead of 3. Like Lothlorien, the fellowship is there for about 10 minutes, while it could've better been 30 minutes. The people who didn't read the books don't know what the other members of the Fellowship have gotten from the Lady of the Wood. But still, I give it a 10 like most people on this site, because it's an epic film and because it's almost torture to wait another year to see the next movie! (the Two Towers)
