The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
Entertaining throughout for a LOTR universe lover like me
I'm not going to discredit or judge the bad reviews, and I'm not going to say this was an excellent first season either. I believe it is very hard for everyone to rate a tv show about a very popular universe with die-hard fans as Lord of the Rings, because the bar is very high. Anyway, I'm going to talk a little about how I felt watching it, and you can take it or leave it.
Before I watched the show, I came here to IMDB to see the reviews, and saw that the majority of them where bad to very bad, so I watched the first episode with skepticism. But then, I watched episode 2, then 3, then 4 in the same night. I was attracted to the story, I started empathizing with the characters and being entertained.
I love the LOTR universe and being able to see the Dwarf kingdom in its prime, with its large halls, endless mines... and female dwarves!! Incredible. To see the kingdom of Numenor and its greatness... just amazing. To see the origin of Gandalf and how he was sent to middle earth, how he was helped by mere hobbits to see he was good. Everything was like a gift to my inner LOTR loving child.
Yes, maybe the dialogs are not award winning, maybe some characters lack purpose, there are also some cinematography problems I criticize (for example, those pitch black scenes where you can't see anything even when watching at night). That's why I substracted 2 stars.
Anyway, I believe we have to give the benefit of the doubt to this show. It is supposed to last 5 seasons, so maybe everything we can't understand will be clearer when next seasons run. I don't know, maybe it wont. But I watched the whole season in two days.
If you didn't watch it, I recommend you give it a chance at least.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Disney ruins everything... again
This movie is ridiculous. Cringe scenes, bad (really bad) dialog.. The only thing I actually appreciated was Bale's character... Everything else was a shocker for me. Disney came along, and Marvel stopped being serious. The first Thor movie deserves the oscar for best picture if compared to this..
Friends: The Reunion (2021)
incredible and very emotional
Apparently a lot of people bash this reunion because of james corden, but I can assure you, if you just ignore that (this reunion isn't about him, it's about the cast and doing an homage to one of the best tv shows of all time) you will really enjoy it, you will most certainly cry and laugh a lot. What I also liked was that they told stories and situations I never heard, which makes everything even more beautiful. Definately a must watch.
Secrets of the Saqqara Tomb (2020)
I was going to give it a 10
I just finished watching, and I rushed here to givee it a 10. I found the documentary amazing, I loved the people that worked in the site, a lot of passion to the work, and emotion. I always loved Egyptian culture and history, especially ancient. But then, I read some reviews talking about the archeologycal methods applied, about how they didn't wear gloves for example, and exposing the mummy etc. I actually thought it was weird they touched the artifacts and bones with their bare hands, but I simply didn't mind, I thought "well, they know better". But it turns out they didnt. Anyway, I really liked the film.
Twin Peaks: The Return (2017)
This is a masterpiece!
I'm writing this review as I finished watching it for the second time.
I really can't make an analysis of the season because I didn't take notes of details and subtle messages Lynch left throughout each part, but I can say that I really enjoyed it. It is very well done, well directed, well written, the characters are all very good, the whole bad cooper/bob-good cooper-dougie situation was captivating to say the least. I understand if there are some people that were disappointed as it is different from the original 1990 Twin Peaks, but if they simply understood that Lynch had a lot of freedom and could actually do what he wanted, and focus on the supernatural side of the show, they would be a little less harsh.
I highly recommend this (of course, for those of you who watched the original series, and if you didn't, go ahead).
Bad Trip (2021)
If you are a fan of eric andre, you will love this
The story itself is pretty simple and I'm certain he focused on the pranks, that are hilarious. Personally I enjoyed a lot this movie. 10/10
