Es geschah am hellichten Tag (1958)
Great Gert Froebe showing his potential before 007 Goldfinger
Its one of the movies where black&white perfectly fits. Its potential is very impressive; watching Gert Froebe arguing with his wife is high class cinema. This movie is a recommendation for Froebe playing psychotic bad guys in the first place. Although the movie focuses on Detective Matthai (Ruehmann) its Gert Froebe's physical presence and his face impressions that are really admirable.
I think the end of this movie will reveal lots of questions. What happens to the murder after he got caught? Will he be transported to jail or a lunatic asylum? Will the Detective marry the lady? Will the little girl get psychological treatment? I admire this dark psycho thriller. I also would like to know what happens after the murder has been caught.
I would recommend this movie to watch in darkness without any lights on. Because of the black&white screen, and the music watching this movie gets very intense!
De zevensprong (1982)
Rare to find but strongly recommended !!! Like Hitchcock for kids !
Its a shame that many people don't know this television mini series. I have seen the German translated version but i don't know if its available in other languages than dutch and German. It is absolutely necessary to watch them in chronological order otherwise you will get (even more) confused. The music also is very precise and fits in perfectly. If you are in adventure like young Indiana Jones then go for it. I think of it as one of the best series ever made -not only for kids, because the acting is very professional- with real suspense. Franz the red only is worth watching. He is a pretty smart actor and surely every kid likes him to be their teacher. The story to me is a mixture of PSI and adventure sometimes a little bit overdone but very sympathetic (everyone dreams about mystery). Call it a Hitchcock Movie for kiddies. Hardly recommended! Watch it!
Robbi, Tobbi und das Fliewatüüt (1972)
Excellent for kids and adults in many ways
I have seen the movie several times. In fact this is meant as a mini series. It is one of the first blue screen puppet movies as far as i know. Surely you can see that the environment doesn't fit in exactly but this also has a charme on his own. Remember, these were the early 70's !!!
Story: It is about a 9 y/o boy (3rd class) who is visited by surprise late in the evening by a robot which is also in the 3rd robot class of his robot school. The robot "ROBBI" asks "TOBBI" to help him with his school examination. He has been given 3 difficult questions to ask like "Who is standing at the north pole and starts with the letter P" (if i remember well). ROBBI the little robot can do a lot of tricks. So he is able to stretch his arm to 10 foot length for example. TOBBI is an inventor so he designed the "FLIEWATÜÜT" which is a German combination for a multi purpose vehicle which can FLIE (FLY) , ship on the water (WA) and drive on the road (TÜÜT=BEEP). The FLIWATÜÜT rans on raspberry juice or alternatively on cod-liver oil. As TOBBI calms down and ROBBI explains and asks for help, they become friends soon and starting an incredible adventure through Europe.
Nice characters (a sweet little mice, a helpful dolphin) and suspense (the black castle) everything is in the right place here. You or your kids will learn from this movie that friendship solves almost any problem.
Highly recommended to all of you who are open minded to puppet movies with an educational message. If you are not common to German language, you could at least admire the set which was very sophisticated for 1972.
L'homme de Rio (1964)
Memories are coming back !!!
This is one of the most remarkable movies i remember watching as a teenager. The exotic location of Rio and the humorous sporty character Jean Paul Belmondo played fit perfectly together. Although the story lacks a little bit of logic sometimes, every youngster in that period would have done exactly the same for his girlfriend as Belmondo did/played. He wasn't the Schwarzenegger or Stallone type but a figure which could be identified with. The character could be every man in love and thats what makes this movie so special to me.
They weren't much movies i saw as a kid which i remember of 30 years later. The Man from Rio is one of them, others are Blow Up (my favorite movie of all time) and "Its a beautiful life", "Way of the dragon","Modern Times", Laurel&Hardy: Blockheads", "Metropolis", "M", "The testament of Dr Mabuse", "Safety Last".
I give it a 10 because my memory tells me to do so.
