The Vow (2020)
RIVETING!!
Definitely one of the most riveting docu-series I have seen.
It's fascinating to watch how people can be drawn into a cult so slowly/gradually and completely lose themselves. And how masterful (no pun intended) the perpetrators manipulated these people. And then finally watching it all unravel.
It's unfortunate that so much of the negative reviews on here are about how stupid these people are, and how evil Keith is. Yes, that's all true, but it's the storytelling that needs to be critiqued. And it's a fascinating story.
Furthermore, the negative comments about the cult members who made the documentary is just nonsense. Had it not been for them, the story might not have seen the light of day. I don't think they are trying to represent themselves as some sort of saints.
An excellent docu-series , check it out.
Hotaru no haka (1988)
HUGE Disappointment
If watching a child s l o w l y die is your idea of good filmmaking then bon appétit.
This movie hit one long slow note all the way till the end. It was very depressing, but it didn't leave me sad...just annoyed.
They just tried way too hard to manipulate you into crying. There was no nuance - big bad war.....orphaned children....children suffer....child dies.
The end.
Terminal USA (1993)
Insanely Delicious Delight
One of my most favorite movies of all time.
Provocative and perverse....you'll either love it, or love it.
Most don't know that there is a second version of this movie which has been edited for television that raises censorship to a new art form.
Enjoy.
Why Did You Kill Me? (2021)
Very Good Documentary
I probably would have given this documentary a 9 rather than a 10, however, I feel the need to counterweight the know-nothings on here who have given it a low score because they didn't like the mother and her family.
Yes these people are low-lives. Yes they've done drugs and been in prison. And yes, maybe they our partly culpable for Crystal's death.
However, the story does show us a beginning, a middle, and an end to this family's emotional journey. Without their dedication the killers never would've been caught. And it shows how ones grief and anger can be transformed from a dogged determination for vengeance, to one of mercy by sparing the killers lives from the death penalty.
It's understandable that people on IMDb don't like the mother and her family. However, does it warrant giving the documentary a low score?
It's kind of like giving the Godfather a low score because the mobsters were a bunch of thieves and murderers.....rather than on the merits of the storytelling.
