Mi suegra me odia (2022)
Funny. An ironic comedy with a great villain
I just watched this movie in the theatre, and I thought it was one of the most original I've seen in a while. The main character has OCD, and the movie deals with how people are prejudiced against mental illnesses. The mother-in-law wants to help the main character by giving her a bogus treatment. It was hilarious.
The ensemble was really fun to watch. It's a fantastic comedy, with a bit of the "horrors" of dealing with a mother-in-law who doesn't understand mental illnesses at first, and ends with a sweet message about accepting your family just as it is. I'm definitely watching again. Perfect for the holiday season.
Mujeres Arriba (2020)
What Latin American women's sexuality is like
This is a very funny and straight-forward film. It reminded me of the series Sex Education because of the direct way in which they treat sex. In Latin America there is still a lot of stigma around women's sexuality. It is still considered taboo to speak about female masturbation, and women's pleasure in general, and this movie deals with those subjects in a very very funny way. I recommend it if you want to learn more about what women's sexuality is like, and in the meantime, get some pretty big laughs.
