Australian Survivor: Return of the King (2023)
A Tribal that will go down in history!
At first i was skeptical about this episode. So much hype going into it, however I now realise that the survivor producers know what they're doing!
This is arguably the best ever Suvivor tribal (Survivor as a whole, not just Australian) and is a masterclass in perfect twists, amazing blindsides and deception. With more than half of the episode being the tribal, it delivered and not once was i left bored, instead I constantly had my mouth gaping open in shock.
To begin with, the episode started an awesome immunity challenge of which the heroes once again demolished the villains in, proving their continued strength, sending the villains back to Tribal council to dwindle their team down to 6. The tension at camp was real and the obvious vote, orchestrated by George was to remove Simon from the game with a 5-2 majority vote against Simon. Jordie is completely on board and reveals Simons "idol" to George.
The tribal however, wouldn't be complete without a twist. Putting the twist in at the perfect time, the tribe all have the chance to compete for individual immunity in a hybrid fire-making challenge, of which Simon dominates, winning individual immunity and stirring up the voting pool. Each group communicates their plans, however George plays them all and blows up the tribes dynamic. As Stevie goes to vote, he pulls out his own immunity idol and swings it around for all to see. It's obvious then, Stevie is going home as all votes against George will not count. George then reveals to Simon that the plan is to vote for Stevie, and that if he wants to save his ally, to use his "idol" that the Joker revealed, throwing him under the bus. However this was all just a chance to flush Simons "idol" as the Spice Girls vote for Fraser with 3 votes against George's and Stevie's 2 votes, meaning Fraser went home, leaving Simon with truely no one left. His tight 4 of Stevie (who now hates him), Fraser (who was voted off), Jordie (who ratted him out) and himself has been left split, and George proves why he is the King of Survivor
All together, a 10/10 episode!
Andor: The Eye (2022)
Another Episode, Another Very Happy Star Wars Fan
To say the least, this series has blown me away. The cinematography, the acting and scripting, storywork and VFX have all been above average. But this episode took all that, and made it even better.
Episode 6 of Andor delivers exactly what you would expect, with amazing visuals and effects, continued stellar acting from Diego Luna and the rest of the cast, and a thought out and well done mission/action sequence.
But what stood out the most was how little of the Disney treatment has been given to this show. Although we didn't see decapitations and blood as we would see in the likes of HBOs House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones, Andor is not afraid to kill off central characters and put the rest in morally tough positions. I love the direction that this show is heading in and the more adult take on Star Wars and cannot wait to see what follows.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Visually compelling, the rest kinda fell flat
I went into this movie expecting awesome things, and I can tell you I walked out feeling very differently. The visuals of this film were impeccable, and could be considered peak MARVEL visually. Another high was the acting, with Olsen and Cumberbatch carrying in that department and being one of the redeeming features of the film.
But despite this, it kinda fell short in every other department. Direction was a mess, the music didn't add much to any of the scenes and overall it just felt a bit corny and cartoonish at points. It felt like your typical Disney "I can't control my power" stereotype. Every 10 minutes there was always a question, and in the next 5 minutes it was answered, bringing the term exposition to a new level. It was brain dump of ideas with none being fully resolved, and heaps of wasted potential.
Overall, the film was a let down and as I left the theatre I was just disappointed. I still recommend watching it, to not only stay up to date but because it was still enjoyable, just wasn't anything spectacular, mediocre at best.
