Reviews
Fallout (2024)
Worth The Wait
I know some people have given this show super low reviews. While I do understand some of their sentiments, most are just someone who is upset it isn't exactly 100% perfectly Fallout from every single Fallout game.
I thought this show captured the feel of Fallout very well. The scenery IS Fallout. Sure, some things have been changed slightly, but everything just feels like Fallout from one of the various games or a few at the same time. There are tons of Easter Eggs in the series too, and I'm sure I missed a ton more.
The lead character played the vault dweller perfectly. I know it's a woman, but you can choose to be a woman in the game. And yes, she is unbelievably capable, but that is explained in the first episode. It almost seems as if she's leveled up while in the vault vs after leaving the vault. At least, that's the way I took it.
The producers, directors, actors, and everyone seems to have studied Fallout. It's hard to make a game to TV adaption as well as this was done, and I remember my fair share of tries over the years. This was so well done and I'm absolutely impressed by how much they incorporated from the game so spot on. Even Dogmeat is in the game.
I can't decide who I like more.... Lucy McLean or Cooper Howard. Both characters embody Fallout so well. I might need season 2 to help me decide.
Platonic (2023)
Not a Funny Comedy
I've been waiting for the comedy for three episodes now, but I don't think I can wait anymore.
This show is just trying to say men and women can be friends without sex being involved. But, after the first episode it seemed like Byrne liked Rogen more than her husband. It seemed like the cliche woman who keeps her husband at arms length while she goes out and has fun with her guy friend.
The next two episodes were similar in how they played out, but not as glaringly obvious. Still no comedy though. I was disappointed since Neighbors was actually pretty funny and I do enjoy many Seth Rogen movies. Maybe it's because it's a TV show, maybe not. Either way, this was a flop.
Priscilla (2023)
No Character Development
I knew going into this that the film would only be ok. I didn't have high hopes so I wasn't disappointed in any way.
They made Elvis out to be this thin lanky boyish man. They could have asked the actor to put on some muscle or just hired someone else for the role. Elvis wasn't a lanky man. He fit and had decent muscle tone.
Priscilla fell flat. The actress needs to work on her acting abilities. She didn't seem to love Elvis, only be infatuated with. For someone who supposedly loved this man, she didn't show it.
Beyond that, the characters weren't developed enough. It was as if this was a big commercial for the book Priscilla wrote. Giving you enough in hopes you'll read the book, but not letting you understand the characters. I haven't read the book, so maybe the book was this bad as well. Either way, I have no idea who Elvis and Priscilla were from this movie. If I didn't know of them beforehand, I'd be confused on why Elvis was liked so much and why Elvis and Priscilla ever thought they were in love.
I wouldn't reccomend this movie.
Ragnarok (2020)
Do NOT Watch the Final Episode
I loved this series so much until the final episode. It was a series that would draw me in. It had a great story, interesting dynamics going on, and made you wonder who would win the final battle.
The first season was phenomenal, second season was great, and the third season was ok. But, the final episode was absolutely horrible.
Spoilers starting now....
To have the entire series be in Magne's head changes the entire thing. It was as if the creators just wanted to build everything up only to rip it all apart at the end. And they left a lot of holes once they decided to tell us it was all a figment of his schizophrenia.
What happened to Vidar? How did he actually die? Was he even real?
What happened to Isolde? Was she really? Did she even die? Or was she in Magne's imagination the entire time? She's there at the end then fades away, so it makes me think she was never real.
And did Magne ever date Saxa? That seems extremely unlikely if he was never a God. But, if they didn't date, why did his relationship with Gry become sour? What did he do?
I wish I had never seen the last episode.
Haunted Mansion (2023)
Disney Strikes Again
I tried to give this movie a chance. I wanted to get through the entire thing so I could provide a more well rounded review, but I couldn't get more than about an hour into it and even that was extremely difficult to do.
This was such a bad movie. The acting was horrible and many of the lines felt forced and fell flat. It's as if the actors either were given horrible direction or they just didn't care about their lines.
Owen Wilson's lines were some of the worst too. I generally like his acting at least somewhat, but he was horrible. Rosario Dawson wasn't much better either, but at least she had some decent facial emoting and expressions.
And this wasn't funny. Maybe a 5 year old would find some things funny, but I doubt a kid over 8 or 9 would think this movie is funny. I don't even think this movie could hold a kid's attention more than 30ish minutes. The acting was honestly that bad.
Overall, I did not like this movie and I won't try to finish it.
No One Will Save You (2023)
Pretty Good Until the End
Overall, this was a good movie with no rewatchability. It had some good jump scares, had you guessing, and the lead actress was good.
What I didn't like was the ending. The ending just seemed to fall flat. This is where I'll get into spoilers. I have two theories about the end.
Theory One - The aliens saw her as one of them, an outcast, an alien so to speak, after seeing her memories. They saw she had been shunned from her town's society. They felt she could empathize with them. So, they didn't take her over and let her have the life she dreamed of where she had friends in town. But, it was all a farce anyways since everyone else was taken over by the aliens.
Theory Two - She was also taken over by the aliens and didn't know it. We didn't see the critter in her throat, but we didn't always see it in everyone else either. In this theory, everyone just goes about their day thinking they're living their best life and are happy go lucky.
Either way, the ending wasn't great. It was kind of annoying to be honest.
The Craft: Legacy (2020)
Waste of Time
What was this movie even about? It seemed like silly girls trying to make people nicer. Change the bad guy a little bit and a couple of the scenes and you could have yourself a teenage Disney movie! The only real tie in to the original movie was at the end and it was much less dramatic than I would have liked.
