We Are Family (2024)
Scraping the Bottom of the Barrel on Night 1.
I have been seeing ads for this show all month, thinking to myself.. God what a stupid idea for a show. Go with your instincts.
When It was on immediately after the Packer game I decided to give it a chance for a couple celebrities. I figured that their first episode might have some real A list names to capture an audience. I was wrong. A mindless nonsense of a show as expected.
The only entertaining part of the show is watching the host and the audience pretend like they know who these celebrities are, after the reveal. How are you going to have a show where I don't even recognize the celebrities!? Had to google who Lauren Alaina, Cameron Bure, Carnie Wilson, Michelle Williams even were.
D- or F+ show.
Night Court: Justice Buddies (2023)
Lazy/Illogical Premise
The writing this week was deaply flawed. Not exactly sure what point they were trying to make here..
When a Tiktok Celebrity vandalizes a Columbus statue, He gets four kids to stage a protest claiming Abby's court oppresses minority rights/freedom of expression.
1.) Why are children on a night fieldtrip?
2.) Why would Abby feel bad for/apologize for sentencing a man who admitted to/profitted from/recorded vandalism?
3.) Why would the bailiff risk losing her job to support someone who is obviously guilty?
4.) Are there no other bailiffs or police on duty that could remove the children or call their parents?
5.) What happened to all the other cases that night?
6.) Are kids even allowed on TikTok?
7.) Wouldn't his defense attorney plead him out as guilty?
Norm Macdonald: Nothing Special (2022)
A cashgrab. I blame Netflix.
I listened to Norm Macdonald clips pretty much every day on youtube for years before he died. A couple months ago I heard rumors that he had filmed a set to be released upon his death. This was clearly not that. This was a homevideo recording of Norm organizing his jokes for an upcoming live show. It was one take.. I'm sure one of many.
If you expected any slip of the mask from Norm as he looks back in his final years, you'll be disappointed.
It feels like Netflix bought all the videos Norm made while practicing his cadence and joke order, saw that one was 50 minutes long and said.. that'll pass as a special! They clearly knew this was unfinished raw footage because they paid celebrities to close out the special at the end... not one of them praised a single joke. They just shared memories, stories we've all already heard. The panel was made up of Conan, Spade, Sandler, Chapelle, Letterman and Shannon (probably just because they wanted a woman)
- Dave Chapelle had an interesting perspective but you could tell that he hadn't spoken to Norm in years.
- Molly Shannon might as well have not even been there, she added nothing.
- Notably absent: Gilbert Gottfried, Bob Saget, Adam Eget, Attie Lang, Nick Swardson, Rosanne Barr, Laurie Metcalf, Louie CK.
