Bewitched: Red Light, Green Light (1965)
Samantha Saves the Street!
In this episode, many residents of Morning Glory Circle including Samantha are annoyed about a busy intersection crossing in the neighbourhood that needs a traffic light, and they intend to fight City Hall in order to get it.
Poor Darrin stays up all night writing an advertisement for the cause and falls asleep on his desk!
Endora displays her usual comedic flair, zapping numerous different traffic lights (and even a British bobby) into the living room of the Stephens' household, much to the surprise of snooping Gladys Kravitz!
In the end though, Samantha has to prove first-hand to the mayor why a traffic light is needed at the intersection.
Although one of the weaker episodes of Season 1, this is still a pleasant watch.
Bewitched: The Good Fairy Strikes Again (1971)
Imogene Coca shines in this hilarious episode!
Imogene Coca plays 'Mary the Good Fairy' in this two-part episode. In this second episode, Samantha takes Mary's tooth fairy job overnight; collecting teeth and replacing them with coins. However, when Samantha finishes the duties at the end of the night, Mary decides that she enjoys not having to do her job as well as not having to wear her wings and refuses to switch back with Samantha. Her bones get a little too warm as she ends up drinking way too much brandy and gets arrested by the police while stumbling around completely wasted in the Stephens' neighborhood. Samantha bails her out and convinces Mary to go back to being the good fairy by threatening to neglect her duties and not take care of the flying suit.
In all, an average episode made special by the fabulous Imogene Coca as a drunk tooth fairy!
Bewitched: Charlie Harper, Winner (1967)
A sublime episode with a truly resounding message
Well-written and superbly acted, Charlie Harper, Winner is one of the best episodes of Bewitched. It teaches us a resonant and sincere message: No matter the amount of material possessions or gifts you have, money can never buy true love.
Unfortunately, in the later seasons of Bewitched and especially after Dick York was replaced, the show had less heart-warming and sensitive moments in exchange for cheap comedy and they could never capture the love of a married couple defying the odds so well like in the first three seasons.
Credit to writer Earl Barret who wrote my three favourite episodes of Bewitched including this one.
Bewitched: A Is for Aardvark (1965)
Superb Writing and Acting
A is for Aardvark is one of the best episodes of Season 1 if not the whole show. It is very well-written and superbly acted especially by Elizabeth Montgomery. I cry almost every time I watch this episode when Darrin gives Samantha the roses and the watch.
