Hustle (2022)
so close
I don't mind every other word being f_ck & Gd in a gangster movie, but it didn't belong here. If they'd cleaned it up a bit, this would be vaulted w/ the timeless classics a shelf above Rocky. I understand the attempt at realism, but this movie potentially had that magic more meaningful than realism, a magic the whole family could share. I'm sad & angry for what this could've been.
Paterson (2016)
I'm afraid 99% will want their time back
It might be the best film I've ever experienced and I don't know anyone I could recommend it to. There's not even anyone I don't know, that I know of, that I could recommend it to. There are some wonderful people in my family, and every one of those wonderful people would say, "what in the h-e-double hockey sticks did I just watch?"
Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008)
Rude, crude,...
...and incredibly sweet.
I received an alert informing me the above review is too short, but when a bullseye wins the game do you keep shooting? Nossir.
The Ninth Configuration (1980)
Moral morale
Everyone around here has agreed with me when I claim that Stacy Keach is a brilliant actor but there's something strangely disgusting about him (sorry Stace). That is not the case with this character. This character you want to hug & maybe enjoy a cup of coffee with twice a week. Even the people (ags & aths) I had to pull by the teeth were very appreciative I recommended this experience. It's beautiful, it's funny, it's creepy, it's awesome.
The Legend of Bagger Vance (2000)
Red rocks
A lighthearted cheesy poem delving into the deepest ocean - you can enjoy this one at it's shallow face value, or wrestle with soulful exploration, choose your own adventure. 10/10.
Little Women (2019)
Don't be sucked in by the (play)bill
I adore the '94 version and keep it within reach; I couldn't even watch enough of this one to be satisfied with my opinion. Every time a movie review system gets popular it goes in the crapper.
A Good Woman Is Hard to Find (2019)
WARNING
Dear family of Flannery O'Connor fans that might give this one a chance with hope for something special: don't.
To everyone else: if you like using your brain while watching a movie keep shopping, if not, have at it.
ps: Sarah Bolger did a good job all the way to the point i had to push eject. She simply needs a better script and director.
Rubber (2010)
Singular.
I'm a fan of assisting justice for justice' sake so reading other reviews moved me to register this plea: please audience, PLEASE refuse to be swayed by any criticism of this accomplishment, for it simply does not lend itself to any. The people on here trying to tell you what anything means require at least one of the various means of medical assistance. It opens claiming no reason then lists complete nonsense to back that up leaving you with that clichéd American sensation, freedom. Choose to find reason with things that are reasonable or take a vacation from doing that. Choose to be entertained by things that would offend you in a serious situation or enjoy feeling noble that you were offended. There are no wrong answers so just enjoy this multi-level, multi-dimensional playground of a movie. Counting all the ways in which I enjoyed, and will continue to enjoy, "Rubber" sounds taxing, so I'm not going to, but being the narcissist I clearly am I will leave you with what I found most valuable: this movie brings me closer to that ideal self that supremely enjoys worshipping the most sacred divine, but also likes taking a break from his belief to imagine she's a piece of unwanted licorice.
