Jeepers Creepers (2001)
The definition of horror
Overall Opinion: Seeing this movie will probably ruin any other horror titles for you. It's ruthless, unpromising and totally pushes aside the rules that regular earth dwelling humans think apply. Now, of course there's no actual monsters out to get anyone in real life but this movie does a REAL good job of convincing you that there is.
Plus and Minus Material:
+Great perormances by Justin Long & Gina Phillips
+Really original for a typical monster movie
-Hey I'm not gonna lie to you, it's disgusting
+Truly scary
-As shockingly unexpected as the ending is, you might walk away feeling pretty bad
Ben-Hur (1959)
The greatest movie of all time
Overall opinion: Now I know some people wouldn't share my opinion on this film but from the first time I saw Ben-Hur I was amazed and entertained. Every scene of this movie builds up, to get more an more interesting as the story reveals new obstacles and situations that Heston must go through. The acting performance in this movie was wonderful and the overall story was perfect and refreshing to see. This is truly a "must see".
Plus and Minus material (What I liked, What I didn't):
+The best movie I'll ever see
+Very well written and directed
+Charlton Heston delivers a great performance
-Titanic has no business winning as many Oscars as this movie
Citizen Kane (1941)
Very Well-Done
Overall opinion: Definitely not what I expected. The great acting, the interesting camera angles, the precise editing, the entangling story, every aspect of this movie was so innovative and new. I now believe that Orson Welles was one of the greatest directors throughout movie history, and a terrific actor as well. It's a shame that studios disagreed with his genius point of view on everything, I will always remember Citizen Kane as one of the great Hollywood movies of all time.
Plus and Minus material:
+Orson Welles
+Award winning acting
+Even better directing
+Well written
+Undoubtedly revolutionary for '41
-It stirred up so much controversy that not everyone was willing to give it a chance
What Women Want (2000)
I was forced to see it
Overall opinion:
I deeply regret seeing this movie for multiple reasons. I didn't find the story line to be interesting and the acting was too bouncy and made up. I found Mel Gibson's overdone girlishly giddy character annoying and I did not find this movie very romantic at all. Nancy Meyers, my hat stays on to you.
Plus and Minus material:
-I can think of a lot of other things that could've been made instead of this movie
-So much gay humor, I could barf
-Bad acting from mostly everybody
-Scenes that I did find funny or interesting could've easily appeared in some other movie later on, since this was not very original
+It was well edited
Snatch (2000)
Very different
Overall opinion:
The quirky acting, brutal reality, surprising plot twists and interesting camera tricks in Snatch all added up to a very original experience of film entertainment. Some people probably share different opinions on it's format but I thought the way that each different event that went on with one person somehow connected to others later was fun to watch and even in some cases funny.
Plus and minus material (What I liked, what I didn't):
+Original
+Better than Ritchie's previous Lock, Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels movie
-Gets real slow in some parts
+Nice camera effects
-When will people realize that adding this much language to a movie just takes away from the entertainment value
The Perfect Storm (2000)
Big disappointment
Overall opinion:
When this movie came out I wasn't to horribly excited to see it but I would watch it if the opportunity came along some how. Well, unfortunately the opportunity came around. This movie started bad and continuously kept on getting worse and worse by the minute until the end, which was also horrible.
Plus and Minus material (What I liked, what I didn't):
-Bad acting
+The water effects are amazing
-The ending
-Gets boring real fast
-Why did I watch this movie?
!Deserves an R rating
The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999)
Sick and Real
Overall opinion:
This movie begins simple and leads into utter confusement. It is straight forward and realistic in all areas and because of that it will make you feel sick. From beginning to end the movie delivers shock moment after shock moment and you won't believe how much of a bad guy Matt Damon can really be. Every new event that Mr. Ripley goes through opens up doors and chapters to new ones and as this continues, his mind becomes more and more lost and insane. It is disturbing but overall well done in acting, directing and writing.
Plus and Minus material (What I liked, what I didn't):
+Great acting from mostly everyone
+Well written
-Ripley is sicker than Freddy Krueger
+SO realistic
-When it ends you will feel awful
!You'll never look at Matt Damon the same again
Wing Commander (1999)
This movie bombed for obvious reasons
Overall opinion:
It stinks! It's stupid! This movie leads you to believe that it's going to be exciting and full of action but instead you get to watch Freddie Prinze Jr. do his usual "I'm so handsome it hurts" act. This is one of the few movies that I've had to rewind and watch the second half again, due to the fact that I had fallen asleep the first time that it was being viewed. Pathetic.
Plus and Minus material (What I liked, what I didn't):
-Freddie Prinze Jr. can't act
-Deceiving previews lead you to believe that the movie is actually good
+There's one scene that's about three seconds long in this movie that was actually entertaining
-There's actual scenes in this movie that build up suspense like something's going to happen and then nothing does
-This movie was so boring I.....zzzzzzzzzzzz
Bringing Out the Dead (1999)
Interesting Insanity
Overall opinion:
This movie gives you the chance to see how awful a man's job in the big city can really be. I was both amazed by the films acting involvement by everyone and how deep the plot could really go before something totally insane happened suddenly. Seeing Nicolas Cage in such a "zombied" manner like this really is quite disturbing but I did somewhat enjoy this movie.
Plus and minus Material (What I liked, what I didn't):
+Great acting by Nicolas Cage
-Certain events and scenes seemed out of place and not important
-It probably will make you feel pretty sick
+This is the first Scorsese film I've seen and I'm very pleased with his interesting and somewhat different style of directing
!Probably the second most darkest movie I've ever seen
Cast Away (2000)
Even better than I expected
Overall opinion:
I can't say much more other than I liked this movie a lot. By looking at it from previews and ads you think you know basically what this movie is about but it goes much deeper than just, "A guy on a deserted island." Tom Hanks once again shows you how well he can act and aside from everything this movie really was very original.
Plus and Minus Material (What I liked, what I didn't):
+Better than great acting from Tom Hanks
+More entertaining than you think
+Wilson
+Smartly written
-Some people might not be completley satisfied with the movie in it's entirety
+I did like the ending
+Well directed by Zemeckis
Wide Awake (1998)
Well made and worth watching
Overall Opinion:
When you look at the overall story line and concept of this movie you probably don't realize at first that this movie was written and directed by the same man who came up with the Sixth Sense! Unlike The Sixth Sense this movie is a lot more down to earth and less creepy but that's a good thing. The acting is good, it's very well written and it really makes you feel good when it's over.
Plus and Minus Material (What I liked, What I didn't):
+Made by M. Night Shyamalan
+Child actor Joseph Cross (He does a darn good job)
+Good Story
+Surprising events and moments that you never would've expected
-A few scenes that seem out of place in the movie
+Makes you wanna go and make a movie as good as it was
Tombstone (1993)
One of the better existing western movies
Overall opinion:
I didn't see this movie until about 5 years after it was released and after hearing how great it was I finally saw it and couldn't agree more. This was a truly well made western. It had the catchy lines, the famous characters and a decent balance of action and acting.
Plus and Minus Material (What I liked, What I didn't):
+Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday
+Michael Behing as Johnny Ringo
+Kurt Russel as Wyatt Earp
+Well written (some of my most favorite lines in movies come out of Tombstone)
+Powers Boothe makes a good bad guy
-It's got the expected language in parts which in some scenes ruins the western feeling of it all
+Fairly epic for a western
-Kilmer should've won an Academy Award
High Strung (1992)
You've probably never heard of it but it's good
My Overall opinion:
I stumbled across this movie after I had finished watching Ace Ventura and The Mask. I saw that it had Jim Carrey on it and decided to give it a try and watch it. Honestly, I did think it's funny but it's really NOT a Carrey movie and it is obvious that it's a "straight to video-student film" sort of movie, which isn't a bad thing. I thought it was actually very fitting for this type of movie.
Plus and Minus Material )What I liked, what I didn't):
+Oddly funny
-Cheap Storyline
-,+Main character bears a strange acting resemblance to Adam Sandler (I don't really know whether that's a compliment or an insult)
+Jim Carrey...
-...but every part of the movie he's in is fairly stupid
+Original in most ways
Unbreakable (2000)
One of the greatest movies I've ever seen in my life!
My Overall Opinion:
I can't rave enough about the greatness of this movie. M. Night Shyamalan is an absolute genius in filming and writing. Bruce Willis once again shows off great acting and Samuel L. Jackson is just as excellent. Anyone who liked the sixth sense should like this as well.
Plus and Minus Material (What I liked, what I didn't):
+The most interesting cinematography ever!
+Great acting
+Awesome storyline and plot twists
+Wonderfully suspenseful
+Better than the Sixth Sense
-Now I want a part 2!
! What was with Jackson's hair?!
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)
Sorry, but I don't love the bomb
My Overall Opinion:
This movie was boasted about so much by viewers that I expected some kind of "Movie Masterpiece" when I watched it. All I got was a barely interesting look into the plans to release a bomb. To me this was a far change from anything else I've seen by Kubrick.
Plus and Minus material (What I liked, what I didn't):
+Good acting by Peter Sellers
-BLACK and white
-I didn't find it very funny
+Good directing by Stanley Kubrick... -...but it's no "2001" (Space Odyssey)
-ZZZzzz!
Mercury Rising (1998)
Superb acting in this suspense thriller
The contents of the movie:
Language: A few "F" words spread out amongst the movie with 2 or 3 "S" words and God's name followed by the D word about 5 or 6 times.
Violence: People are shot and beaten with some bloodshed.
Sexuality: None.
Plus and Minus Material---(What I liked, What I didn't)
+Bruce Willis
+Great acting from Miko Hughes
-Not chock full of language but it's there
+Baldwin makes a good bad guy
Overall:The first time I saw Mercury Rising I was blown away. Every little bit and piece of this movie kept on adding more and more suspense until the end. Plus, it's always been entertaining for me to see Willis in movies. I've always seen him as an above decent actor in most everything he's done. But in this movie Miko Hughes (Simon Lynch in the movie) was the one who stole the show. This is one childhood actor that totally deserved more recognition than what he got for his role in this movie. I give this movie an easy 8 out of 10 for it's exciting mix of action and acting.
