The Beekeeper (2024)
Pretty stupid, but kind of fun
I think it goes without saying that the writing in this movie will not win any Oscars. The story is absolutely bonkers, over the top, and makes you question the intelligence of everyone played in this movie.
The plot armor is on par with John Wick Chapter 4 and the Beekeeper doesn't even want to avoid going into conflict with 10 goons at the same time. But isn't that somehow the point of every Jason Statham movie?
In the end, you pretty much get what you pay for. Good action in a short movie that doesn't question your patience like the overly long last John Wick movie. So turn off your brain and enjoy the ride.
John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
Bloated and badly written superhero movie
How can this be the highest rated movie of the franchise? Something seems very off. John Wick 1 was great, then it went downhill from there because the motivation is missing. In Part 4 we don't even know why he still keeps going...
There are too many overly long fight scenes we have already seen. The only new thing here was the amazing dragonbreath top-down view actions scene, now that was fantastic. All the rest could've been half the duration. The movie is 40 minutes too long.
John gets shot a million times, gets thrown off buildings, rammed by cars, kicked down hundreds of stairs. But with his superhero magic suit, he got nothing to worry about. And don't get me started on the blind assassin. Are you serious???
No story, no realistic action, no decent antagonist. This movie is weak. Re-watch part 1 instead, now that's a real John Wick movie.

Season 1 is intriguing, Season 2 wastes your time.
Season 1 was mostly enjoyable and could be rated a solid 7 or 8 for mystery fans. Sadly, season 2 is a huge disappointment.
Instead of providing at least a few answers, they throw more made up nonsense at the viewer. All the rules we learned from season 1 go overboard quickly.
They had a really nice premise with the people from the bus coming in and a potential food crisis. But we never heard of it again. It could've been an awesome premise for the struggle of survival, in which the humans basically become the monsters.
Instead, we got a nameless, faceless, soulless music box as an invisible end boss, that pretty much dominates the whole season. And nothing here makes sense - the rules are inconsistent. Some people get killed in their sleep, others get possessed, others even get taken while they are awake. Why?
This season has delivered nothing to advance the premises set in season 1. The show lost its path, and the ending of season 2 doesn't make it any better.
Why is it so damn hard for Hollywood writers to focus on the basics.

Just random 'mystery' at this point
I thought season 1 was pretty good, but now I am just getting tired.
The show keeps making new random 'mystery' up without ever bothering to move forward or solve the existing threats. We are close to the end of season 2 and still no nothing about the environment.
Important things were never explained, but more random stuff was thrown at the viewer. There is 0 chance that the writers will be able to come out of this, unless they pull a cheap 'Lost'-Conclusion.
I had high hopes for this season, but now I just want it to be finished. At the current pace, we might as well need another 12 seasons.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 20: The Foundling (2023)
30 minute long Grogu Meme-Video
I don't even know why I'm still watching after that horrible last episode. I guess because it's only 30 minutes this time?
Well, if you break it down to real content, it would probably be more like 10 minutes. Because now we spend time on absolutely ridiculous things like Grogu doing Mandalorian training.
And don't forget to put him in every shot and show every reaction, like on some generic social media video. That doesn't get old quick, I'm sure.
Apart from an overly long rescue of a foundling, where Mandalorians act like Stooges again and a bit of (unnecessary) backstory of Grogu because he can't speak anyway, not much happens.
They now really want to establish character development of Grogu by using facial expressions, lol. But all I see is unlimited Meme-Potential.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 19: The Convert (2023)
How can people compare this garbage with Andor?
This is the first 1 I have ever given out, and this episode fully deserves it. It starts out with a pretty lame action scene and then switches places.
We are now on Coruscant following the story of ex-imperials trying to integrate back into society. Not a bad premise, but the writing is so incredibly awful - it is painful to watch.
Even AI can write better dialogue than this. Heck, half of the time the characters are just standing around because there is nothing meaningful to say. The acting is also pretty bad, not to mention the lame CGI backgrounds and the incredible boring score.
Passengers in the distant developed future can just randomly open train doors like we are in India. Medical professionals leave patients behind during a serious procedure without any supervision - yeah, right.
And why exactly do you get sentenced for brain wipe without trial because you stole some medical equipment from an abandoned spaceship? It's not like he took a torpedo.
Andor had great writing and relatable characters - this is just trash, not even telenovela level.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 18: The Mines of Mandalore (2023)
Such lazy writing it's almost insulting
Here we go again.
Mando travels to the only other person he knows in the universe to ask for random droid parts for this incredibly important droid - just to get his mind changed within 5 minutes.
He needed a droid for spelunking, to test if the air is breathable? Are you serious??? They couldn't have come up with a more silly reason. And alas, the droid doesn't matter one bit. And why exactly did Mando have to send him around the corner, like the atmosphere 20 meters behind the rocks would be any different.
Mando acting like one of the Three Stooges again, getting bum rushed by three grunts, barely surviving. Then getting captured, then relying on Grogu and badass Bo-Katan to save the day. Bo-Katan is actually what we think a Mandalorian should be.
Then he gets dragged down to the bottom of this lake, just to be left on the ground? What was the purpose of that? Wouldn't that thing want to eat him or something? And of course Bo-Katan saves him again.
It's a damn shame. You can see the quality of the production, but the writing is so atrocious.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 17: The Apostate (2023)
The first package delivery mission begins
It's a damn shame Disney can't hire decent writers for Mandalorian, as they did for Andor. The result is a mess just like we've seen in the previous seasons.
Starting with that laughable monster fight at the start, which portrays the feared Mandalorians as Stooges again. They could've just ran away without any losses, but instead they keep shooting it. Perhaps the 1000th laser blast will do something?
Discount pirates stirring up trouble in the city. After the first sentence you already know how this issue is going to be resolved. This is how baddies were written in the 80s for a straight to VHS flick with Michael Dudikoff.
Mando needs the help of that one droid from the first season - because. Yeah, the one who exploded. They have a statue that portrays it as a hero. Mando wants to repair the droid, but he can't. He gets send on his first delivery mission to retrieve one of the first MacGuffins to repair the memberberry droid.
Did I mention, despite going through all the effort to find a Jedi for Grogu, Grogu is back with Mando again? Nobody cared to explain, but I'm sure Disney will come up with something. Although we all know it's for pushing out some merch easier.
Just hire some good writers, Disney.
1899 (2022)
Mystery for the sake of mystery is pointless
I just finished the show and am left disappointed.
The show has a pretty strong start, but quickly devolves into an annoying 'mystery-trap', where anything can happen and no rules or logic apply.
If you start asking why something happens or what's the purpose of this, you won't get any answer. Because I don't even think the show creators know it or even bother to flesh it out. In the end, nothing is real, so anything can happen and anything can 'work', right?
So ultimately, you feel less and less invested because nothing makes sense. It could've been a great show if it would've stayed in a mysterious but logic universe. Imagine The Matrix didn't have any rules, then you get 1899.
And the big reveal at the end just adds the icing on this. Everything you've seen was pretty much pointless.
Im Westen nichts Neues (2022)
It's good, but 'just another war movie'
Great acting and high production value, but do not expect anything new from this movie.
Whereas Private Ryan offered a captivating story well told and 1917 had bombastic scenes 'without' cuts, 'Im Westen nichts Neues' has no such standout characteristic. Don't get me wrong, it's all well done and there is nothing really to criticize. So if you are looking for a solid war movie, then I can highly recommend this one.
Perhaps the most unique aspect of this movie is how pointless it pictures war to be. It's a never-ending cycle of fresh recruits coming in to replace their fallen comrades. And it conveys the message of this despair perfectly.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
Amazing visuals, but bad writing and pacing.
Rings of Power actually started off pretty strong, and the first two episodes were much better than I expected. Sadly, it declined rapidly starting from episode 3 and got barely watchable towards the end.
The writing and pacing were simply bad, there is no other way to put it. Since I haven't read any of the books, I don't know if this is done by the studio or if this story of coincidences was actually written by Tolkien.
This is precisely what bothers me the most. I thought Sauron was some kind of evil mastermind, but this show portrays him like some aimless hermit. His whole path in this show is based on coincidences, but in the end they want to convince us it was all some sort of evil plan? Did he want to hide or to rule? What if Galadriel didn't drag him all along?
It also doesn't help that Galadriel was written as a 2000-year-old pouty child, that no one can stand within the first 10 minutes. And later in the movies, she suddenly is calm and wise? I don't understand how this makes any sense.
Add laughable fight scenes, questionable dialogue, overly dragged episodes, meaningless content, obvious bait and switches and no likeable characters, and you have a recipe for disaster.
I am giving it 5 stars, because of the visuals and the strong start. That's it.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Not great, not terrible - 3.6 Roentgen
Not great, not terrible. Dyatlov was in charge it seems.
The script is mediocre at best and the story suffers from unnecessary complexity (has a bit of Inception vibes in this regard).
The pacing seems a bit off and you get constant bombardment of 360 degree CGI, which seems a tad too much, even for a superhero flick.
The ending has a bit of a laughable character arc of the villain. Not sure what they were thinking when coming up with this one.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part VI (2022)
Good duel - but laughable writing again
I am giving it a 7, because I feel kind-hearted today and the duel was entertaining. But the writing is simply laughable again, keeping the low standard of the show.
Examples? Sure my friend, here you go:
- Reva is alive, walked away from being stabbed and teleports instantly to Tatooine - she can now bend time and space it seems
- Meanwhile the empire is still chasing the rebels with a star destroyer that can neither catch nor destroy a run-down transporter
- The run-down transporter can split up, but the 100x bigger star destroyer can only follow one of the two ships - because!
- Vader throws a few rocks on Kenobi, and then walks away without making sure the nemesis he hunted for 10 years is really dead
- Reva, who just decided to be good in the last episode, decides to be evil again, hence hunting down a child for 'justice'
- Kenobi arrives in record speed on Tatooine to find Reva weeping about the 'I couldn't do it' ark we have seen a million times before
I feel like I could go on forever if I bothered to rewatch the episode. That's just what I remember of the top of my head.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part V (2022)
Stupid writing continues, how exactly is this a 10?
Just because there is a scene with Hayden, doesn't make the episode a 10/10. Are expectations really that low now?
Some of the marvelously stupid writing examples:
- Droid can lock down the base, but cannot open the front door
- Leia is now an engineer as well, of course
- Reva getting all emotional with 50 stormtroopers right behind her
- Tala only using her grenade when dying, why not before?
- Obi-Wan getting captured to face Vader, but then to escape again? What?
- Let's hold Obi-Wan with two Stormtroopers behind a door where nobody else can see him
- The empire has a fleet in orbit, but the rebels can just fly away?
- Reva attacking Vader at the possibly worst moment when she was planning her revenge for a good decade
- Is everyone with a lightsaber getting trained how to inflict the least amount of damage? How many necro revivals we gonna have? Go for the head next time, Thor.
- And the most stupid thing of course - let's just walk away with Reva lying alive on the ground. Are you serious? Sure, you don't want to kill off the character, but this is just lazy writing.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part II (2022)
Why is the writing in Disney's Star Wars always so bad?
I really don't understand how Disney can green light all this poorly written Star Wars material. The newer movies and spin-offs, Mandalorian, Boba Fett and now Obi Wan. The last time I saw good writing was with Rogue One.
The whole plot feels unnatural starting with Obi-Wans arrival. Apparently, to find kidnappers you just have to ask 1 person on a random planet, and then a boy will run up to you and bring you exactly where you need to be.
So, 3 goons kidnap a princess and put her basically unguarded in a back room when they are expecting one of the most powerful Jedi? Then he shows up, and he is basically just a bloke who can't do anything. So what, 10 years make you forget being a Jedi, but another 15 years later Obi-Wan can face off Darth Vader? I don't think that's how it works.
That horrible second chase scene, she falls, he uses his force power while being shot at by 2 remaining goons, and in the next cut he is out of danger and off the building with Leia? What just happened??? And why do we need to see Reva doing ridiculous flip force parkour if it leads to absolutely nowhere? It's so pointless.
And the ending makes me wonder, if the transport ship instantly activates and takes off, then why not just rush into it from the start? Why split up and wait for Reva to catch up? Just for the big reveal I guess, but again without any logic behind it.
I really don't get it. Disney, please use some of your money for writers.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
The Matrix Funeral. Embarrassing nostalgia cash grab.
There is so much wrong with this movie, I don't really know where to start.
- Bad writing and story
- Action scenes out of a budget movie
- The 'rules' of the Matrix go overboard quickly
- Discount Smith and discount Morpheus
- Penetrant nostalgia flashback scenes every 5 minutes
- Annoying nostalgia references on top of that
- Pointless ending (again, for the nostalgia factor)
If there was ever an award for an unnecessary franchise revival, this movie would get it for sure.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 14: The Tragedy (2020)
This is what happens when you let your Stormtroopers train by Charlie Chaplin
The result is absolute comedy. This is beyond plot armor, this is 'we now stop shooting for being conveniently slaughtered in melee range'.
Some of the other highlights:
- 'I cover you Grogu', Mando moves away for what feels like 2 miles.
- 'I followed you for a long time' and now I approach you at the most inconvenient place
- 'Put down your backpack', Why exactly? And don't pick it up again, ok?
- Send a ship of 20 Stormtroopers (but 50 come out) despite knowing Mando alone has probably slaughtered already 500
- 'I never miss a shot', fails to take out the minigun repeatedly.
- Girl running conveniently along a bolder so we can have a minigun trace action scene
- Stormtroopers watching Boba doing his thing
- Robots approaching Grogu in snails pace for drama
- Grogu now a master of the force
This show has terrible writing (always had), but this episode is the worst.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 13: The Jedi (2020)
Should've been the 2nd episode
And the other 3 could be easily trashed. Even this one barely moves the plot forward. It's another episode in this glorified weekly space-opera; although quite entertaining this time.
Don't believe the ratings; hardcore fanboyism is strong in this one. At this point you can throw any lazy fan service at this crowd and they will cheer it up.
This show badly needs some good writers. Anyway, the Mandalorian gets send to the next destination despite reaching his goal. Why? Because. There is no logic behind it.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 9: The Marshal (2020)
Solid entertainment; but another filler episode
Sometimes fun; sometimes boring. But in general enjoyable to watch due to the high production value.
The writing is again very dull and character motivations seem to not exist in this star wars universe. Don't watch this show if you expect good dialogues or consistent/logical character development. It's either not there; or it does not make any sense at all.
Just turn off your brain and enjoy the production.
Dark (2017)
Season 1&2 are outstanding; Season 3 is a yawn-fest
Native German here. Season 1 and 2 are outstanding and a 10/10 if you like time travel theory. Story, acting, cinematography and soundtrack are all great.
However, season 3 is quite weak. The first 4 episodes are wasted on re-telling the same story again (with different hair colors); the pacing is slow. The amount of pseudo-intellectual mambo-jambo thrown at you is simply too much. And the 'reveal' who is whose parent also gets old quick.
I think bringing parallel worlds into the story line was not a good choice in the end. They should've stuck with one world and more focus on the events around the Apocalypse (and its aftermath).
Moon (2009)
Brilliant, emotional, believable... and that soundtrack!
This is one of my favorite Sci-Fi movies of all time.
Some critics here don't seem to understand why they are using clones up there instead of a crew or just normal humans. One person is much easier to control and who would go up there anyway if your body dissolves after 3 years? Using a clone makes perfect sense for that matter, especially if you can replace that one clone at any time.
And are all future films barred from using a 'computer-voiced' assistant for all eternity, or are we going to label it rip-off every time a movie does that? Clones aren't a new concept; GERTY isn't new concept; the setting isn't a new concept.
And yet Moon is a completely new film, and it is a damn brilliant one.
The Mandalorian (2019)
How can anyone give this a 10?
With 2 to 4 more or less bad filler episodes (depending on who you ask); there is no logical reason to still give out a 10, even if you love the show and setting.
But of course it makes sense because the story is paper thin. It would be told in 3 or 4 episodes; hence the need to stretch it out with filler episodes.
Sadly, we don't see the Mandalorian's face except in one scene; so character development and empathy is a tough call. Why don't we see him eat, sleep, wash his face without the helmet? Instead the only thing we get are flashbacks to explain how he is potentially suffering below his helmet.
We know he hates droids. But after being bandaged one time by a droid he gets all emotional about him. Isn't this a bit too much of a change of mind?
The other characters stay mostly bland. There is nothing quirky or witty about any of them. They are there to serve the plot without any own motivation. They are so simply written it's almost insulting. 'Hey big girl you don't like Stormtroopers? Then join me to beat up some Stormtroopers.'
The production value is good; but the story/reliance on fillers and poor writing drags it all down to simply average.
