Gaslight (2022)
Pretty good. Kept me interested.
I thought the acting was good and the storyline really kept me on my toes. I thought I knew what was going on at first, mostly because I expected a version of the 1944 movie by the same name, but I was completely wrong. This movie is like an amalgam of the original Gaslight and Fatal Attraction. It has things in common with both, but the mystery is more complex than either. It's kind of like a whodunit, with a fairly large cast of characters and the viewer not sure who the culprit is and how all the storylines tie together until the end. I really enjoyed it. I'm just glad the main character didn't have a pet rabbit.
Fahrenheit 451 (2018)
Stick with the book and the 1966 movie
Vast departure from the book. That isn't always a bad thing. I've seen quite a few really good movies that were barely based on their source material. In this case, the story just gets lost in the weeds of new additions to the story that don't make sense. Of course, I have to admit I didn't finish the movie. I guess I should have given it more of a chance, but the scene where the Omnis make Montag prove he can be loyal by killing another fireman just went too far. No one was likeable. Too much of the future world was unexplained. Why are they called Eels? What were they doing to the hands when they erased identities? Why was getting your identity erased a terrible thing? It didn't seem to be affecting Clarisse's life too much. Why was Clarisse a snitch and why was she playing both sides when she seemed to identify more with the Eels? Why would she rat on the old woman and then be surprised when the old woman went up in flames? The 1966 movie was good, but I always thought it could use some improvement. This version wasn't an improvement.
Beyond Valkyrie: Dawn of the 4th Reich (2016)
I didn't hate it
Everything doesn't have to be a masterpiece. I found this to be enjoyable, unrealistic, but entertaining to watch. The story was interesting, the characters likable, the actors were decent (I'm a Rutger Hauer fan so disappointed he wasn't in much of it), and it had a nice satisfying ending. It sort of reminded me of the old timey war movies of the 50s and 60s.
