Thirteen (2003)
Not believable at all
The movie was interesting, but it's unrealistic plot caused me to lower the amount of stars it should have received. I grew up in New York City. That's a big a city as it's going to get. I've seen some of the worst schools in the city and the kids that go there are nothing like the kids in this movie. Now, I didn't go to what you would consider a large school (at least not by New York standards) and it's not your stereotypical inner city school either, but I can count on one hand how many people I know who regularly use drugs. I know kids experiment, but they were only thirteen. If you and your high school or college buddies never did any of these things, then who's going to believe that a thirteen year old would? When I was thirteen, I didn't even think about drugs or sex. I know times have changed, but not that much. Maybe if the movie was about college students I'd buy the plot line.
Spider-Man 2 (2004)
Amazing
I cannot even begin to tell you how much I loved this movie. When I first watched it, I was a little wary of what to expect. The first Spiderman movie had been simply phenomenal, truly a tough act to follow. And yet this movie surpassed all of my expectations. The plot line was amazing and much better than the first. The character's are developed very well and you can actually feel some of the pain Peter Parker feels. His abilities truly are his gift and his curse. Mary Jane's character seems less flaky in this one also; she seemed to have really grown up since where the last one left off. James Franco did a wonderful job in his portrayal of Harry Osbourne. He seems aloof, arrogant and vulnerable at the same time. He too is in pain upon finding out that it was his best friend, the person he loved like a brother, who had killed his father. The ending sets up Spiderman 3 perfectly, with Harry discovering his father's alter ego as the Green Goblin. My only complaint was that Peter and Mary Jane actually decided to be together at the end of this one. And that Mary Jane found out Peter's secret so early on in the series. Where was Gwen Stacy, Felicia hardy, Betty Brant? Sure, Mary Jane is Perter's main love, but she's not his only love. But even this isn't much of a negative, considering it only adds to Peter's image as an outcast and it proves that he truly does love Mary Jane. This is a definite must see for all.
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)
More of a comedy than an action movie
The movie wasn't too bad, at least not as bad as some of the other movies that are still out. I didn't like Bow Wow's character too much. He seemed out of place in Tokyo and I'm not saying that just because he is not Asian. Twinkie, Bow Wow's character, seemed a little too...American for Japan. He had been living there longer than Sean, yet Sean some how managed to learn more Japanese than him. And Sean never did really get the girl. Sure, there were implications that they liked each other, but there's no romance in their relationship at all. My friends didn't really appreciate how Sean, a white man who had just moved to Japan, became the new DK or Drift King. And why was Vin Diesel in it exactly? What I did like about this movie is how funny it was. I'm sure the writers weren't aiming for funny, but my friends and I just found the entire movie hysterical. Like why was it that the whole entire school was into drifting? And there was this one scene where they were racing in a crowded street and everyone just somehow knew they were drifting and formed the shape necessary for the drift to occur. If you want a good laugh, this is the perfect movie from you.
X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)
Could wait for the DVD
Well, my friends were really eager to see this movie and I didn't want to be left out so we managed to score some tickets for the opening day. I don't know what words to use to describe this movie. The plot line was nonexistent. The characters weren't well developed and some weren't developed at all and therefore seemed out of place in the movie. I hated how some characters just disappeared and reappeared at random points in the movie. And the ending was somewhat of a disappointment as well, at least when compared to the endings of the previous two movies. It seems the writers tried to squeeze in as much drama and action as possible, but doing so took away from the original concept of the series.
