Mindhunter (2017)
Boring
I didn't make it through the second episode of this show. I read another review that said Holden acts like an alien from another planet with the way he talks and looks at people and that's pretty accurate. It's painful to watch and not very interesting. The random explicit sex scenes right off the bat were so out of place too. I'm no prude when it comes to sex in tv and movies but I found myself going "Do we really need to see this?" Like, let's interview a serial killer and.... cue the oral sex. Skip this, it's not any good. Also I can't get past Kristoff from Frozen's voice saying cuss words and using sexual talk, but that's a whole other thing lol.
New Girl (2011)
So Funny
I started watching this for the first time a few weeks ago. Right from the start it was hilarious and all the characters are really loveable. It's silly, stupid, quirky and laugh out loud funny. Everything that happens to them is so typical of THEM, you just can't help but laugh. Eventually towards the end of series I started fast forwarding past the silly bits that didn't really have much to do with the main relationship plots. I guess I was just ready to see Jess and Nick back together. I only had two characters I didn't care for. Russell, (seriously could he just go away and stay away?) and Reagan, who I was tired of with all her whining and coldness. I thought the last episode was great, especially the little peek into the future. They were all moving on with their lives and after 10 years it was time to let go of the loft. My only complaint about major character events is that CeCe had a beautiful wedding and Jess had to get married in the hospital wearing an eye patch. I know she didn't care, she'd marry Nick in a garbage dumpster but I thought our girl deserved better. Favorite lines: Schmidt: "You've got some Schmidt on your face!" Nadia "Hey Jew, how's peepee?" Nick: "I fell in love with you the minute you walked in the door."
Trolls Band Together (2023)
Not Good
Idk what happened to the writers between the first movie and this one but it was terrible. My kids are 13 and 6 and let's just say that the adult humor didn't go over my teen's head. Luckily my 6 year old didn't get most of the jokes but she knows what the bleep sound means, she's not stupid. Way too many inappropriate jokes and suggestive language between the characters. It was just awful and not even funny. We rented it on Prime but I was just sitting there waiting for it to end. We're definitely not going to buy this one, hard pass. It was cringe, inappropriate and not even close to the cuteness of the first movie.
Leo (2023)
Hilarious
I have had both a 5th grader and a Kindergartener and this movie was so funny. My kids and I were cackling with laughter at the hilariously accurate depictions of the giant textbooks, classroom rules and personalities of 5th grade. The kindergarteners were the best part honestly, I've never seen a more perfect example. So so funny. Leo himself was okay, but the students really stole the show. Adam Sandler is of course always great but there was a lot of unnecessary toilet humor and jokes that went over my kids heads that were clearly for adults. The movie does try a little too hard and the musical parts were cringey but overall pretty funny and enjoyable.
Lockwood & Co. (2023)
Just Read the Books
When I discovered that this show didn't get a second season I decided to read the books. I wasn't disappointed. The books are excellent and after reading them I rewatched the series. The character casting is really good but the dialogue that strays from the book, not so much. Lockwood is portrayed as a much bigger, unlikeable jerk than he actually is in the books. Lucy spends the entire series shrieking "Lockwood!" with her eyes bugged out. She's much more tough and resilient on paper. There's so much in the books that could have been put in the series instead of some of the scenes the writers cooked up. Alot of stuff just didn't even happen and I didn't think it really added to the show. I also wish they had left out the F bombs so I could have enjoyed this show with my 12 year old. There's no language like that in the books so that's disappointing. The books are better.
Wednesday (2022)
SO GOOD
This show was so awesome and I can't wait for more seasons. The cast is perfect, the music is spot on, the plot and twists and turns were so good. I'm used to not being surprised because of the typical predictable show formula. This is not like that at all, thanks to the brilliant Tim Burton. Edge of your seat, never saw it coming suspence at the end. I will say that some of the deaths and villains were sad when revealed, I wanted those characters to stick around or not be a villian but oh well. The show is slightly comparable to Harry Potter, Legacies, Vampire Diaries somewhat, with a little bit of a romantic detective show thrown in, Like Beauty and the Beast. But those comparisons are small because this series is its own thing really. I really enjoyed it. I need more Wednesday NOW!
Mira, Royal Detective (2020)
Great show
My 4 year old loves this show. It's colorful with great music and keeps my daughter's attention. It reminds me of Sofia the First, which we also love. The characters are great and the animals are funny, it's not annoying to watch even for adults.
MacGyver (2016)
Eh...
I'm trying really hard to get through season 1. It starts off well but it's becoming so repetitive and boring. It's not the actors' fault but the terrible writing. This show could be great but the writing kills it. It's true that Mac does come off as smug and Jack just has ridiculous dialogue. Also it's really hard to take Mac seriously because he is too young looking for the character. I have rolled my eyes at least five times when they say "for years" or "years ago". When he was twelve? In diapers? We're expected to believe that this guy who barely looks 21 has been to MIT and in the military and working with secret government agencies "for years". He's not a bad actor just too young for the part. I'll keep going to see how the show plays out but I might need a paperclip and piece of tape to make it work.
Virgin River (2019)
Season 3??
Time for the Virgin River Drinking Game:
Take a drink every time:
Mel whines in her nasal way
A character cries
Jack says I'm sorry
Someone says I love you
Doc hangs his mouth open
Lizzy rolls her eyes
Preacher shows no emotion
You should be good and drunk now and that's going to make this season bearable. I loved the first two seasons so much but season 3 was just bad. Mel just whines and lays around and we're also supposed to believe after Jack fought so hard to be with her that he's just going to decide in a split second to break up because she wants a baby? Season 1 Jack would have said ok let's start trying right now. The characters on this show are too old to behave in such a juvenile way like they have no life experience. I feel like I'm watching a soap opera in a nice location. Ugh. Season 4 better step it up!
Shadow and Bone (2021)
Excellent, binge-worthy
Absolutely loved this show, I was hooked from the first five minutes. The cast is so perfect, they did an amazing job. I haven't read the books but I cannot wait for another season of this show!
Octonauts: The Ring of Fire (2021)
My Kids Loved It!
This Octonauts movie was great, kept us all on the edge of our seats. I hope they keep making more of the standalone movies because we enjoy watching all of them.
Legacies (2018)
Love it
I think I enjoy this series better than TVD to be honest lol. The cast is great, it's funny, entertaining and I think Hope and Landon are a better love story than Damon and Elena.
