A Man Called Otto (2022)
A NEARLY PERFECT FILM
If you are looking for stellar acting, this nearly rates an A+. Tom Hanks is absolutely brilliant in his role and is closely matched by his Co-stars. The only weakness was the portrayal of lesser characters in cameo length roles. They were more like characters from a farce, especially the real estate guy.
This film moved me emotionally, which is hard to do. While the plot has a few surprises, generally anyone watching this film knows the plot line. It doesn't matter. It is masterfully pieced together with powerful vignettes of the past. This film is inspiring, funny, warm and immensely satisfying. Don't cheat yourself. Go watch this masterpiece as soon as you can.
Kim's Convenience (2016)
Delightful Writing and Acting.
KC has a little of everything, but a lot of humor and terrific acting. The writing is witty and the dialogue surprises more often than not. Enough has been said about the actors and their excellent performances by other reviewers. All in all, I am hooked! Cannot stop watching and generally have at least experienced one or two outright belly laughs per episode, a rare feat. Do yourself a favor and watch this authentic and crisp series comedy. You will also grow in your understanding of Korean culture as well as broadening your appreciation of the diversity of The culture in Urban Toronto. Well done Canada.
Chloe & Theo (2015)
Better Than Meets the Eye
Challenging and interesting with a punch to the gut of our indulgent lifestyle. It's a shame more reviews do not see the impact of this film on the viewers. While it is not a high tech, super expensive film, the acting is better than anyone gives it credit for, and the purpose of the film is achieved.
Hunters (2020)
Disrespectful
To create a near spoof of one of the greatest tragedies of history and to vamp it up into this kind of sensational violence..... no words other than awful. Please kill this ASAP. It makes the seem even more unreal.
Adult Life Skills (2016)
Well Crafted
Excellent filming and acting. Quirky, definitely yes. Slow at times, but if you have a natural curiosity about why so much weirdness is going on, you will be rewarded. This is a journey with real humans struggling with the grief that pervades their lives. Immensely satisfying finish. The low ratings come from people who like formula films that keep them entertained with action, not dialogue. If like reading books or plays built on dialogue between characters instead of titillation with thrills and suspense, you will love this film.
