Lady Ballers (2023)
A 90s comedy
A comedy with 90s humor except that back then we'd all laugh and think this could never happen. Well, it's 2024 now and if we keep going the way we're going the past few years this will happen pretty soon.
Judging the movie itself it isn't a 10/10, more like a 8/10 if you like this type of humor or a solid 7/10 for an average person. It has its funny moments but isn't something I'll remember for a long time however its message will stay and should be taken seriously pushing it up to 10/10.
Hopefully one day this will help to explain how ridiculous the 2020s were and serve as a warning not to repeat it.
Pistol (2022)
Filthy, chaotic, violent, punk
Filthy, chaotic, violent, everything punk should be. By far the best on-screen portrait of the Pistols I watched, the acting is so good and the live concerts are so realistic it feels like you're back in the 70s watching the real thing.
The amount of chaos in the show is just amazing and now since imdb requires 600 characters I'll just repeat how chaotic it is, it's chaos at its finest, chaotic characters, chaotic shows, chaotic government, chaotic country and a chaotic world. Pure chaotic chaos with some more chaos mixed in.
If you grew up punk you'll love it, if you didn't them I'm sorry you had a boring childhood.
Andor (2022)
Surprisingly good
A show about the little guy, not another installment of the Skywalker family drama.
When I first heard of the series I didn't expect much, after reading some of the reviews I got interested in it and after watching it I can say it surpassed all expectations. The show is excellent. The characters are well written and the show keeps you on edge the whole time.
The Mandalorian saved Star Wars and Andor is just as good. Hopefully they continue along this path of making series and movies about the little guy. The world of Star Wars is wast and the lore is rich, it lives thorough shows like the Mandalorian and Andor. Enough of the Skywalkers, Star Wars outgrew that family, it's time to focus on the expanded universe.
10/10 for me, looking forward to the next encounter.
The Book of Boba Fett (2021)
Wasted potential
I was really excited for this following the Mandalorian post credits scene. I thought finally we'll get a darker take on Star Wars from the perspective of a take no prisoners bounty hunter that does anything for money, a kind of a Mandalorian 2.0 but more badass.
I was wrong, this is Mandalorian light. Boba Fett chooses diplomacy over violence? Wants everyone to like him? Seriously?
Instead of a dark and violent take on Star Wars we got a more kiddy friendly show than Episode 1. What a waste of potential.
Not to mention the fight scenes are awful. The droids in the finale aim even worse than storm troopers. Thousands of shots and no one dies, not even the side characters. They're just pathetic, no impact at all.
Before writing all this I was thinking it's a 6/10 but after I'm actually thinking of going lower but I'll stick to a 6/10 just because it's still better than episodes 7 & 8. Haven't watched episode 9 and don't plan to.
The Mandalorian (2019)
The show that saved Star Wars
I lost interest in Star Wars after episodes 7 and 8, didn't even bother watching episode 9. I was just fed up with the problems of the Skywalker family, it became repetitive and boring but then the Mandalorian came along.
Finally something set in the Star Wars universe but follows the little guy not the Skywalkers. Something that isn't cosmos changing but events feel much more important and impactful to the characters involved.
After season 1 which was a 9/10 in my opinion I didn't believe the second season would be as good, I would have settled for 8/10 but they managed to outdo season 1. The season finale is the best Star Wars can offer and pushes the series up to a 10/10. And yes, I know Luke is in the finale but he isn't the focus of it.
Clerks III (2022)
Hits right in the feels
Not as good as the first movie, not as good as the second but man is it emotional. I'm not objective when it comes to Kevin Smith movies, I grew up with them, it's my childhood. Watching all these characters grow old reminds me I'm not gonna live forever and soon I'll be just as old as them but while the movie is on I'm still the kid that just watched his first Kevin Smith movie and laughed like a maniac at Jay and Silent Bob.
I hope to see many more Kevin Smith movies but I don't know where they can go after Jay and Silent Bob: Reboot and Clerks III, I'm afraid it's over but man was it a great ride.
Jay and Silent Bob Reboot (2019)
Idiotic but I loved it
It's everything you'd expect from a Jay and Silent Bob movie, there's no deep message, no oscar worthy acting, it won't change your life. It's just dumb fun, you can see and feel how much fun the cast had making this movie and it's full of nostalgia for the generation that grew up on Kevin Smith movies, my generation.
At first I was going to give this a 7 but after thinking it over the movie does what it sets out to do perfect so a 8 it is from me. Loved it and I hope to see more Kevin Smith movies in the future but I hope there will be no sequel, this is a perfect ending for Jay and Silent Bob.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022)
A cashgrab
I fell asleep during the first movie, I feel asleep during the second movie, got drunk this time and almost fell asleep during this one. The visuals are great, the acting is good however the whole story from the start till the (I hope) end is boring.
I love the HP franchise, I rewatched all the movies multiple times and can watch them multiple more times without being bored. I have no desire to rewatch this and will probably forget it within a few weeks just like I forgot the first two movies.
Usually I'm glad to go to the movies, this time I regret paying to see this. Please WB don't make any more of these, either do The Cursed Child or just make a teen drama series centered around Hogwarts, 10/10 I'd watch that.
I, Claudius (1976)
A historical drama done right
A historical drama done right. No political correctness, no forced diversity in a setting where it doesn't belong, no modern day issues crammed in at the cost of historical accuracy, just a tale of the Julio-Claudian dynasty as historically accurate as can be on TV. Oh how BBC has fallen over time to go from this to Troy: Fall of a city.
The Dirt (2019)
R'n"R at its finest
I wasn't much of a Motley Crue fan before watching this movie, I am one after. Fast, chaotic, perverse, R'n'R at its finest. If only half the stuff in the movie is true they lived a full life.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Nostalgia at its finest
I went into this with very low expectations after seeing the imdb score. I'm pleased to say I was pleasantly surprised.
I loved seeing the old characters and where they end up, especially the crazy French dude yelling critiques at modern society and when agent Smith remembers who he is and yells MR ANDERSON I got goosebumps all over me remembering one of my favorite childhood movies. Nostalgia at its finest.
The only real problem I have with the movie is how poor bots are at aiming, the main characters don't even have to try to evade their bullets they'll miss anyway. I mean it's Stormtrooper level incompetence.
Is Matrix Resurrections revolutionary as the first installment? No. Is it better than parts 2 and 3? Yes. Well worth the watch.
Peaky Blinders (2013)
A masterpiece
A masterpiece however the last season seems rushed and has obvious plot holes. Characters just start acting out of their established character most notable of all being Finn, out of nowhere, going up against the family and the rest of the family, disowning their brother for nothing while the whole point of the previous seasons was how you can only trust family and how family is above all. I believe this was a last minute decision in order to setup a movie and wish they would have ended the series as was promised years ago with the start of WW2 instead.
The first five seasons are a 9/10 for me but the last season overall reduces the score to 7/10. Still, regardless of the last seasons problems, a masterpiece worth watching.
Hellboy (2019)
Just as good as the first two
I really don't understand all the criticism, it's a really entertaining movie. I like the darker tone compared to the other two movies and would love to see a sequel.
And Just Like That... (2021)
I'm a straight white male
I'm a straight white male in my 30s so I'm pretty sure I'm not the targeted demographic but I love it. I grew up watching the original series and really missed the girls. Well now they're back and they're dealing with problems you'd expect at their age, did anyone really expect them to hit the town every night and jump from boyfriend to boyfriend in their 50s? As for the wokeness as far as I can tell it's a satire of privileged upper class white women, not something to be taken seriously.
Cobra Kai (2018)
Exactly what I was looking for
This show is exactly what I was looking for, my only complaint is sometimes it get repetitive but it doesn't matter, as long as Netflix keeps making it I'll keep renewing my subscription.
Ride Along (2014)
Dumb fun
This is in no way a masterpiece or something to look back at, in fact I watched it last night and already forgot most of the plot but it achieves what it sets out to do. It's just dumb fun for when you wanna watch something without having to focus while spending half the time on social media.
The Deuce (2017)
Good old dirty NYC
A dive into NYC before gentrification, while TImes Square was dangerous, dirty and full of life. I like to think Vincent's bar was inspired by CBGB.
The Queen's Gambit (2020)
Loved it
Next to the Wire the best tv show I ever watched. A book adaptation done right.
Vinyl (2016)
Loved it
As a great fan of punk, CBGB and everything New York I'm very disappointed this was cancelled.
All American (2018)
Typical high school drama
Typical high school drama but it just has something. I can't explain it but it keeps me entertained and wanting for more.
Sh'at Neila (2020)
Realistic
A realistic portrayal of the horrors of war from the perspective of regular soldiers.
CBGB (2013)
Loved it
Loved it. My only complaint is the choice of Ramones songs but the portrail of the band is incredible. I cried at the end, 10/10!
Black Sails (2014)
Entertaining
Historically inaccurate with many plot holes and characters making dumb decisions just to drive the plot, especially in the last two seasons. Nevertheless Black Sails is an entertaining show with a satisfying ending.
Troy: Fall of a City (2018)
Quite possibly the worst TV show of all time
Everything about the show, the acting, directing, writing, all of it is bad. And to top it off they re-create history by making half of ancient Greece black for some reason. I simply don't understand forcing diversity into historical setting where it doesn't belong. They could have just created a fantasy world like GoT and had as much diversity as they wanted. The show would have still been bad cause of all the other elements but at least it wouldn't try to re-write history.
Game of Thrones (2011)
Worst ending I ever watched
Seasons 1-6 are great and it's all down hill from there. The ending is so bad it ruins any rewatchability and makes it hard to recommend the series to anyone who hasn't watched it yet. The first 6 season are in the 8 to 10 star category but the last two are so bad they knock down the overall score to 6.
