So hard to watch...
25 March 2024
Edit to my original review: I'm adding 1 more star because of the twist. The acting is still horrible, but the multiple twists made it better, almost in a "so bad it's good"way

I'm 30 minutes in and debating turning it off. The female radio host and the actor who played Gary are absolutely awful. I just kept fast forwarding through certain spots they were in. As someone who consumes morning radio daily, I understand the "corniness" and "shock jock" factor, but I don't understand how they hired all bad actors. Mel Gibson was cringe and none of the "jokes" landed. The back and forth dialogue between Mel and his wife on the phone seemed so fake and forced. The concept was pretty cool, but I couldn't get into the movie at all. Only gave it 4* instead of 3* because I like Mel, no matter what anyone says.

Don't believe the 1 star reviews...
10 December 2023
They are clearly written by people who either have a grudge against someone in the cast or the production company, or are just miserable people in general. How can this "not resemble a horror film in any way", yet "rely on typical horror tropes"? So my point stands, don't listen to the 1 star reviews. Now, for the movie. Was it great? No. Was it 1 star bad? Nope. I enjoyed the dark tone of this movie. It sends across a very depressing message and it works for the film. The actors did fairly well. I'm a Tobin Bell fan, so I was excited to see him in something other than Saw. Sure it may rely on some horror tropes, but I enjoy those. It's what got me loving horror in the first place. The dumb decisions, the corny kills. Although about an hour and 20 minutes in, there is a great kill scene. If you enjoy dark horror, give it a shot. I didn't regret watching it.

I don't get the hate...
9 December 2023
I really enjoyed the movie. I thought Justin Long was great and the whole concept was pretty cool. Almost like a Freaky Friday or Totally Killer. The cast did decent for what they were working with. The kills weren't original, but the gore and effects were pretty sweet. I'm a huge fan of both Joel McHale and Justin Long. Joel from "The Soup" days, and Justin from Jeepers Creepers and, most recently, Barbarian. I love how versatile Justin Long is. He can play Jess' boyfriend in New Girl and be the biggest dork, then play an evil Mayor in Its a Wonderful Knife and absolutely kill it! If you like cheesy slashers with gore and fun kills, you'll enjoy this.

Recently watched again....

Warning: Spoilers
Twice. I finished watching and immediately played it again. I hadnt seen the movie in about 20 years, so it was very fresh. First, let me say that Joaquin Phoenix is an absolute menace. Pure evil. He conveys it so well, that it was immediately apparent who the antagonist was, before he even spoke. His eyes are so dark and unforgiving. Russel Crowe is very believable as well. After escaping and going back home, thats exactly the reaction I would expect from someone who experienced something like that. Such an all around great movie. The cinematography is outstanding, especially in the opening sequence when they are shooting the arrows at the Barbarians. Chefs kiss. Incredible.

Patient 7?
6 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
There is a movie called "Patient 7" that has a part in it exactly like this. Guy carries a body around on Halloween. Meets up with 3 party goers and a girl. He then kills them. Cop shows up, but doesn't do anything. I know this is a remake, but I'm wondering if Patient 7 ripped it off in 2016...either way. Decent movie with decent acting. Like others' said, the first half was promising, not so much the second. Still an enjoyable watch.

Tragically awful...
16 July 2022
Never have I seen a movie where "friends" fight the entire time. The majority of the movie is about childish drama. The acting is ok, except for the black guy. He is absolutely awful. Nothing even happens until an hour and 15 minutes in. Save yourself the time and watch something else. This movie is truly awful.

Tragic acting
15 July 2022
Made it 2 minutes into the movie and I had to turn it off. The acting was atrocious. Reminded me of a straight to VHS kids movie from the 90s. I feel like the kids were picked up randomly on the side of the road and given $20 to memorize some lines. I'm upset, because I was pretty excited about this when I saw it on Tubi. Stay far away. It's incredibly awful. Only gave it 2 stars because it's actually funny how bad it is. I had a little chuckle.

It's supposed to look like a snuff film, you numbskull
9 July 2022
It's a remake of the tapes that Leonard Lake and Charles Ng made. Whoever gave it 1 star for being a "snuff film" must not have ever heard of the story. Some people are just dumb for no reason.

One of the rare times I'm constantly on the edge...
30 June 2022
I was on the edge of my seat nearly the entire movie. The suspense was incredible. I read the short story a few months ago once I heard they were making a movie on it. Although not difficult, because it's a short story, the movie followed it almost to a T. Obviously they had to add things to make it a full length film, but what a treat. The sister was an incredible actor. Almost so good that she seemed like the main character at points. The movie flew by and I wished it was a little longer. But that's a good thing. Ethan Hawke was absolutely terrifying. Great job by all. 8/10.

My comfort show
21 June 2022
I can't give this show enough love. It's GENIUS! The chemistry between characters is amazing! And the character development is outstanding. In the beginning we get a more serious Winston, but as the show progresses, we see a more goofy Winston, which works. The writers really took their time to improve on each character. The only reason I didn't give it 10 stars is because of how annoying Jess gets after Season 3. I'm not sure if it was purposefully done, but some of the episodes of her acting entitled and "catty" are hard to watch. Other than that, it's the perfect show. Perfect blend of comedy and drama. I just finished watching it all the way through for my 3rd time and immediately started watching for a 4th time. It's my comfort show. I watch it at night before going to sleep and most nights fall asleep to it as background noise. Highly recommend, especially for those who were fans of How I Met Your Mother. I guarantee you will fall in love with it.

Read the book before you knock the show...
2 May 2022
Of course it's a strange show...have you read the book? Clearly a lot of the people who rated it lower haven't. Some even admit to not reading it. Jason Bateman does an incredible job as Terry Maitland. I don't think they could have done any better at casting it. If you like strange, paranormal mysteries, you will enjoy this. Even if you haven't read the book, give it a shot after watching. It doesn't follow the book all the way through, but it's still great. 8/10.

Loved this movie!
2 May 2022
You might be thinking, "but you gave it a 6". Yes, and that's because that's what it is. It's not Shawshank Redemption. It's not Pulp Fiction. It's a good horror film. A lot of complaints about it being "pornography". It's called "X"...what do you expect. The gore and horror in this film are exceptional. Some great kill scenes and great acting from Mia Goth. If you enjoy horror films that don't make you think, with good acting and gore, this is for you.

Terrible...but...
2 May 2022
When we have people leaving reviews that don't know the difference between "then" and "than", how much can you really trust someone? Trust me, as someone who knows the difference...it's horrible.
