Small Market, Big Heart (2012)
Sonicsgate, with a happier ending.
If I had not watched Sonicsgate on YT, I never would've heard of this documentary, but this one is a gem that is just as good, and much more heartfelt and happy than the former. Not only does this film show the relationship between the Kings and Sacramento, which, being Milwaukee Bucks fan, I had no idea how deep and dedicated it ran, but it really tugs on the heartstrings in a different way than Sonicsgate does; It brings the more sad, yet hopeful emotions the Sac fans were going through while trying to save their team to the forefront, and you really feel for them. The music really helped build that, and while it's a documentary a bit more on the cheap, it's still a great documentary, and a very acceptable substitute for the cancelled ESPN film about the fight to keep the Kings.
No offense to Seattle, but Sacramento really fought much harder, both the fans and the city government, to keep the Kings, and film really showed that.
I had heard that the same documentary filmmakers had been trying to make a sequel to this, "Here We Stayed", and I hope they do make it. This documentary was made when the fight was still ongoing, and I would love to see the same people on this film, talk about how they feel now, with the Kings staying in Sacramento for years to come.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Great cast makes up for a somewhat labored journey of a film
There are certain expectations of a Quentin Tarantino film, but while some of them in this case are lost or held back until the last minute, the movie as a whole delivers another neat alternative-history that can be considered an homage to late 60's Hollywood.
Where the movie could drag out with its overall length and sometimes labored and not-entirely-clear narratives, the performances of the cast make up for it.
Both Leo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt give outstanding performances, and Margot Robbie was gorgeous in every scene she's in. Kurt Russell gets his moment and makes me wish we had more of him in the movie. Al Pacino was not terrible, but his character seemed a bit too one-dimensional and it was hard to really get into his scenes.
As similar to what I've seen in Inglorious Basterds and the Hateful 8, there are scenes where the suspense slowly builds, and you are left hanging on for the climax, to a point where you are silently screaming for it, good or bad, and the end result gives you a moment to finally sigh at the suspense finally ending.
There are some moments for you to, at the very least, chuckle, and relax, but as with any Tarantino film, you never get a real chance to relax long.
Overall, the movie is very solid and is something fresh in the midst of never-ending sequels and remakes, and continues to show how much of a creative mind Tarantino is, and how he continues to churn out fantastic films, one after another.
Delta Farce (2007)
Satisfactory in the funny department
I thought this was a lot better than Health Inspector, particularly because Larry has one of his Blue Collar pals joining him for the ride. I've always liked Bill, and the chemistry between him and Larry during the film was very neat. Plus, their comedy was more satisfactory. The setbacks were that D.J. Qualls' character was too insane at times, and that Keith David's performance was big departure from his more memorable military performances. Danny Trejo gave me some great laughs, especially when he sees some of his cars blown up and declares it vandalism. Also note, I took a friend that was in boot camp not long ago to the movie and she enjoyed it a lot. Like I said , this movie is satisfactory in the funny department, and even if it don't cause you to have roars of laughter, it will give you enough chuckles to make it worth watching.
Blue Collar Comedy Tour: One for the Road (2006)
The Best for Last!
I was kind of skeptical about seeing this movie after not being entirely satisfied with "Rides Again," But this one was just as great as the first! Each of the guys' comedy was right on and had me laughing endlessly. Just like Ron said in the movie, I laughed until I thought I was going to throw up! All of them were on key and the material was very fun and interesting, though Larry pushed it with his joke about catching a Cuban while fishing in Florida, but otherwise, it was very great! The special features on the DVD are also very funny, including their short on pulling a prank on President Bush(played by an actor). This one might even be better than the first one in that each of the guys had relatively equal stage time, unlike in the first one where Larry and Ron's bits were too short and Jeff's was slightly too long. In this one, all four routines were well spaced and perfectly long enough to be fully satisfied, plus the material seemed very fresh and new. The finale was also absolutely hilarious in seeing old photos of the guys from years before. Some of them were obviously doctored by a computer, but the guys' reactions to them were great. This was an awesome movie, the Blue Collar boys hitting a home run in their last at-bat. Overall, a must buy!
Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector (2006)
I've seen worse.
I don't think this movie was half bad. Some of Larry's comedy was enough to give me several chuckles, and it was basically fun to see Larry be himself in the whole movie. I've seen worse comedy movies, like I-SPY with Eddie Murphy. I fell asleep the first time I watched that, and I have a sensitive funny bone! Sure, the storyline was kind of weak, and some of the supporting cast was bad too, it was still a nice fun romp of a movie. Larry's jokes were also fun to listen to, and I absolutely enjoyed his Larrymobile(truck). As Larry would say about this movie, "It's funny, I don't care who you all are, that movie's funny right there!"
Click (2006)
It just doesn't "Click" for me
Sure, it's a fine melodrama, but I expected more comedy. I know that this movie really deals more with morals, but we already got the message halfway through the film. Now don't get me wrong, all the performances by Adam Sandler, Kate Bekinsale, Christopher Walkin, David Hasselhoff, et al are wonderful, but this movie just wasn't what I expected it all to be. I was hoping that Adam's character's journey would be more of a funny try to pull everything together. There was too much sadness in this movie, and even you get confused as to what had happened in the fast-forwarded time. Early on, the comedy was right on key, but after that, drama took over, and very limited humor occurred from there on out. Overall, "Click," while it is a very nice piece of work, just doesn't click for me.
