I Care a Lot (2020)
WHAT?
Throughout this movie I have tried (and failed) to understand how we are supposed to empathize with these two. As a woman, even I found the girl power agenda here depicted as a forced and inconsequential attempt to make you care.
Here we see not only an attempt to make you sympathize with an egomaniac with zero remorse and a death wish but a quite comical and delusional scenario where THE RUSSIAN MAFIA is unable to: (1) extract an old woman from a caring facility (2) making sure two (very stupid) women are dead and stay so. And (3) keeping their own boss from being abducted...
The "twist" at the end is only the final nail on this movie's coffin, being the ever-charismatic Peter Dinklage the only reason I continued to torture myself with this movie... don't bother fellow cinephiles, it's better to spend a few more minutes browsing for something to watch.
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
Perspective, people!!
I started watching this series expecting to get the chills and maybe even the occasional jump-scare, what I got in return was a whole different deal and I mean this in the best way possible.
The Haunting of Bly Manor revolves around an actual well written story, which I kept trying to decipher throughout most of the first half!
People keep saying they grew bored from the first episode on, but the truth is, those guys must be used to getting the whole picture of the story in the first 5 minutes of it (and that is alright!) BUT...
In my case, the constant thinking of theories to each event had me sitting at the edge of my seat, and, quite frankly DYING to get some answers!
It is definitely not perfect, and it is no Hill House, but that's because they are totally different. It is still quite good, and if you're a fan of feeling some suspense, you should give it a go.
Todas las pecas del mundo (2019)
Fun... not cathartic!!
As a Mexican I can say most movies made in this country during the last decade (in exception of alternative filmmaking) are sadly mass produced, starring the same old actors and slightly tweaking narrative arches for the same old story. "Todas las pecas del mundo" May or May not be one of said movies, however, this is a much better product than other comedies with WAY higher budgets (no, it is not a Netflix movie) and with recognized studios behind them, like the somewhat recent and pretty much painful to watch "overboard" (hombre al agua) and others you may be lucky enough to have NOT seen like "todos caen"
Anyway, I think it's important to understand any movie's purpose. This flick is visibly intended for mere entertainment and it does not miss that point if you like silly yet salty Mexican humor.
If you are looking for a movie with deep plots and characters, go elsewhere.
