The Enchanted Christmas Cake (2021)
This wasn't a good Christmas movie.
I watched this because I like Erica Durance as an actress and was a big fan of Smallville. I don't think she lived up to her potential in this. It may be because it was just a bad story line. With more effort this could have been a better movie. Like others have said in these reviews, the hair and outfits were pretty bad. I think Erica is beautiful and probably has thick, possibly curly hair and it's just been overstyled with heating tools and damaged from the bleached highlights. That was hard to ignore and then add to the poorly chosen wardrobe and it takes a lot away from this movie. Erica and Robin are very likeable, this was just not the best written movie. And that wasn't a recipe, just ingredients and in my opinion, only showed an M at the bottom not an MA, so could have been anything. But definitely not Marzipan, unless they were going to decorate the cake with it. Please do more research to support your story. I looked up Lebkuchen recipe and it was nothing like that. The bakery did not look like one, had no customers and you never saw them bake anything except that cake. I can say, the scenery was nice, the house and the Inn were beautiful, and this had a good Christmas message and some good heartfelt moments. It just wasn't brought together all that well. I wouldn't watch it again.
Good Witch (2015)
Good family show.
I enjoyed watching the Good Witch Movies, and this series was good too. I liked that it was a good family show, with no sexual scenes and foul language. The show encouraged positive thinking and made viewers believe in the magic in life. I think after the kids went to college, the show kind of lost its mojo a little and it's good that it ended after 7 seasons. My biggest complaint is that the story line from the movies and each new season of the series was not very consistent, they had too many noticeable changes. But overall it's a cute show to watch, with a good cast and viewers will fall in love with Middleton.
After (2019)
Not bad but disappointing.
I watched this movie before I read the first book and I thought the movie was cliche and not very good. When I found out it was based on a book I read it and then re-watched the movie. Sadly to say I was disappointed with the movie but liked it better than the first time I watched it because I got to see the characters come to life. I think they picked good actors to play Hardin and Tessa, they fit the roles and seemed to have decent chemistry given the scenes they had to be in. But with that being said they changed the story to much for this to be a good movie. They did not need to portray Hardin as such a pushover. He was a hard in the books and his flirty character and blunt attitude were some of the reasons Tessa was so drawn to him and we didn't get to see that in this film. The passion and fighting was very poorly portrayed, those parts of the books drew you in and showed you the bond between Hardin and Tessa. He sadly just came off as moody and whiny in the movie. Tessa seemed so young and innocent in the movie and we didn't get to see her sassy side or her boldness when she stood up against Hardin or her trying to party with them and kissing Hardin first or any of the scenes with Zed. I didn't mind that they didn't make the film as sexual or explicit as the books but they didn't need to make it so pg13, it almost seemed like a middle school romance instead of college. The relationship with Tessa and her mother was way off in the film. They never really had a good relationship to begin with in the books and almost seemed like good friends in the movie. I wasn't a fan of the actors chosen to play Noah or Hardin's father, and they should have left Tristan as the sweet guy he was in the book and not changed him to a girl. This movie was also poorly edited, several scenes felt rushed and the actors delivered the lines either too soon or with no feeling. And they didn't have very much depth to the conversations. And the one scene with Tessa and Landon mouthing the lines with no sounds?? Why? If they would have added just a few more scenes and chosen to stick closer to the story line it would have had the chance to be a good movie. Or better yet why not make the books into a mini series with these same actors so that they could have had more time to bring the characters to life from the books and not been so rushed to cram so much content into a 160min movie. And the ending, bad just bad. That's my two cents, not trying to be harsh, I liked the books and I hope the second movie is better than the first.
