Empire Games (2018)
Visuals and verbals
I realized with sadness that a lot of viewers turned off because of the visuals.
Let me tell you that it is indeed an issue of finances. There were no special actors hired for this project, only us experts to give the historical context.
Not a single of the historical scenes has been made especially for this documentary, we had to deal with what footage there were.
I told them repeatedly that the footage of the Manchu was misleading, that they used battle footage of what was obviously the Shang Dynasty and that the dude in the Confucius bit is wearing Buddha beads.
But that was what was available. There is almost no available footage of Sun Tzu, Confucius was probably too expensive (the movie with Chow Yun Fat is pretty nice) and the majority of movie footage is always centered on the Manchu.
I am sad that many of you didn't make it to the fourth episode. Let me tell you I tried my utmost to be as historically accurate about the Qin Dynasty and its archaeology as possible.
Vampire Academy (2014)
Well done popcorn flick
Yes, the movie is cheesy. But I have the advantage on not having read the books and enjoying it unbiased. The movie screams "Young Adult novel adaption" in all directions, but it is absolutely refreshing in a world full of YA dystopias. The movie is fun and light-hearted. The actors are great (especially Rose is reminding me of a younger Detective Rizzoli and Lissa is full of grace) and very likable. The movie feels a bit rushed, it tries to put a lot of plot points into a movie that would have felt better in a series' season. It is clear this is a book adaption and as such you have to fill in some blanks by yourself, like the road-trippy shopping mall event that distracts from the main plot and feels out of place. It's not the most genius movie and some things are quite obvious, but it is a _well done_ movie with good characters, entertaining interactions, and a nice narrative. I was afraid some of the characters would fall flat (especially Dimitri) but it turned out they were well characterized. The two main actors are especially good as presenting two girls who share a deep and joyful I thoroughly enjoyed it for what it was - a leisure time flick, not Shakespeare. As such I can recommend it without a doubt. It was a lot of fun and bettered my mood.
Volkodav iz roda Serykh Psov (2006)
Great, simply great
This movie has nothing left to see, it is the single greatest production I've seen in the past years in this genre.
I have no idea how this movie managed to get to Germany because we don't have many east European productions synchronized but I'm happy that I've got the opportunity to see this.
The acting is great, the story full plotted. This movie isn't boring and also complete, it is five times better than Lord of the rings. It's a classic but at the same time tries to avoid clichés.
Sometimes there are some bad cuts, but it doesn't disturb the enjoyment of watching this movie.
ALso, for the Germans, the synchronization is exceptional good.
Keloglan Karaprens'e Karsi (2006)
A quite sufficient fairy-tale parody needn't to be a classic
The previous commenter seems to have either not understood what the movie was about or has an awful humor. However, this movie won't win any prizes, but if you take it as a comedy which parodies the style of fairy tales, it is quite entertaining. From the first moment on you KNOW it's a parody. The hero is "tragic" has a sidekick, aims for the princess, there is a black prince who "always looses" and, romance, beasts, giants, and many things to laugh above.
Who thinks this movie was serious is a pity and won't have much fun with it, but if you take it as the popcorn-cinema it is, you will have fun.
