Purely Belter (2000)
Stereotypical and predictable.
The film started off pretty uneventfully and went downhill from there. The cast and script were very predicatble, unoriginal and showed a long lost affection of the 'loveable' rogues fondly found in Newcastle, UK.
With the exception of a couple of 'small' surprises it was an hour and a half of wasted eyesight. For the major players in the film the acting was poor and the script as stated above was very predicatble.
How the likes of quality actors like Tim Healy and Kevin Whately got mixed up in this (with the exception of having a geordie accent)is beyond comprehension.
The recipe for the self pitying die hard geordie film died long ago and this should have been nailed in it's coffin long before the powers with the purse strings at channel 4 financed it.
Never Let Go (1960)
Movement amongst the cardboard.
In a sea of monotonous black and white 50's - 60's films it was great to see a master of roles playing an classic villain - Sellers. Peter Sellers role in this film was quite superb as said above a classic villain for this master of character acting to sink his teeth into. Adam Faith and Richard Todd turn in an uneventful performance - in fact Todd's role was very wooden. In support of the masterly Sellers was David Lodge and Nigel Stock who in their turn have supported the best over the years and in my opinion both gave small but convincing performances as Seller's side kicks.
An excellent film to see if only to watch the performance by Peter Sellers
